| My dog has a partial cruciate tear. We are looking to try a custom made “My Pet’s Brace” as a treatment before we go to a surgical option. Anyone have any experience with one? Any other treatments that worked for your dog? He’s a 75 pound lab mix. Thanks in advance. |

Seconded. Dogs are much better patients than people. Teddy has had 3 surgeries. After the first, I begged the vet to explore other options. His advice was 'have the surgery' for the best outcome. Much less likely to have debilitating arthritis. TPLO were $6k each. I know, I know... Teddy was worth it. @eleventyseven I'll give you my input as a DVM. I've done two of the high end leg braces that are custom made and fitted for dogs with a torn CCL (ortho-pets). Both dogs had discontinued use of the brace within a years time due to difficulty keeping it on and the dog not wanting it on. The concept of a brace is great but for animals.....not so much. Surgical repair will always be the gold standard if it is appropriate for the patient and the O's wallet. Hit me up with any questions. Megatarsal DVM |

We used one for our lab. Made by OrthoDog. Was expensive but well worth it. She didn’t like it but it kept her leg geometry in a position for her to heal. Took abt 6-8 weeks. We kept her from running and never left it on her when we were away. Worked wonders. Highly recommend it. |

Not a custom brace but an off the shelf brace. It was for a smaller dog who did not like to wear anything. She was like houndini (houdini). Any time the brace was put on, you would find it in the middle of the floor only moments later. Would not be worth the cost in this scenario. Not sure how your pup is with a brace. That may help decide. |
