I changed the Elixers that came on my FG3 to D'darrio EJ16's and installed ebony pins. The guitar sounds so much better to me, with these strings. I think the nut slots on the E and B strings are a little high and I want to optimize my ability to practice, so I'm definately going to get a setup done. The shop, which seems to have an excellent reputation, charges $75 for a full setup, but for $200, I can get a Plek job, which includes the setup. I think the frets on my guitar are a bit rough and was planning on trying to polish them, so a plek job could take care of that and hopefully make the guitar more enjoyable to play. What are people's experiences with Plek jobs? Is it worth an extra $125? I'm also considering switching to a bone saddle and possibly a nut, since the guitar is going to be in the shop anyway. |

I dropped off my guitar this morning. He's a one man stringed instrument repair and build shop. That's all he does and he has stellar reviews, so I'm glad I found him. His plek machine is broken and he's been doing the work by hand. I'm getting a full setup, fret level and polish and new bone nut and saddle. I can't wait to get it back! |

Bought a Martin from Sweetwater and had them Plek it... Plays like a dream, no buzz, easy action... Asked if I was a picker or Strummer for set up... I do not know how much of a difference it made as I only played it when sent to me... But very playable and thought it was worth the price... Id send other guitars in, but to afraid of shipping and transportation... There are more local to me shops... |
