We picked up two GSD pups from a family friend. The mom was 70 pounds and very slim frame. Dad was a stocky pure black 80 pounds. Both papered multiple generation purebreds. At his 12 week check in the vet said his paws were tree stumps but didn’t want to speculate size just yet. Well he had his 16 week check in Friday and she said expect a minimum of 100 pounds. He’s currently 51 pounds, which is 11 pounds heavier than the large size expectation for his age. He’s also the height of a 7-8 month old. His sister is 44 pounds, which is still heavier than a male should be. She’s also the height of a 7-8 month old female. This is him last week after we had an argument. He didn’t like that I locked him out while I showered. I let him know I didn’t like what he did to our bedroom door. The crazy part is you can see he knows door handles have to be turned. He may look like a doofus but he’s not.  (No, we don’t have undersized door knobs, and yes at 4 months his paws are already bigger than door knobs.) Attached File His sister is probably the most beautiful dog I’ve ever seen. She’s the daughter’s baby. We got both for a thousand from a family friend. The other black ones of the litter went for considerably more for single pups. We got lucky and paid less for both than any single pup of the litter was sold for. Mine is about 80-85 pounds and she's big enough for me. I couldn't deal with any more hair that a bigger one would dump. That dogs paws are huge. Mine is a shadow, where I am, she's there too or close enough to always watch me. I got her when she was around three so I have no idea of her last conditions but she has turned out to be a damn good dog but is an absolute murderous assassin of all small animals. |

| Mine is about 90 pounds. I think he would've been bigger if not for malnutrition in his puppy days. He's a rescue that was found wandering the woods at about 18 months old and 50lbs, all bones. When we adopted him he was still underweight, but up to 75lbs. At 90lbs he's still slim, but gets a lot of exercise. Strongest dog I've ever owned, love him. |

Told him not to lift them up again since their teeth aren’t strong enough yet, but still impressive. |

Up to 57 pounds. Still a week shy of 5 months old. His ears are 5” from the top of his head. He stands about 21-22” at the top of his shoulders. He’s lost a few puppy teeth but some of them are being stubborn and might have to check with the vet on it as he has two rows in a couple places. He officially takes dumps larger than mine. TMI, but I’m not joking when I say you could mistake his poops for literal logs laying in the yard. You may think I’m exaggerating, but I’m really not. So he’s two months ahead of where he should be in weight and three months ahead on height. Smart and loving and on track to be a dang good ogre of a dog.  And yes, he is buff and has a mane. I think he’s a mutant with how much muscle he’s started suddenly putting on. Attached File Hard to believe this was less than 3 months ago. Attached File |

This guy was 110 when in his prime, which is too big for the breed IMHO, it causes issues as they age My current GSD was running 80-85 pounds in his prime which is closer to where in my opinion a male should be, he's 12 years old now and it's hard to keep his weight down as he slows so he's around 90-95 lbs In his prime at 80/85 lbs:  the old man at 95lbs:  |

Going to have to increase his food intake. 61 pounds but hit a massive skeletal growth spurt and is looking really lean. His ears are also almost 6” tall now. Between the two of them we’re finding baby teeth EVERYWHERE. Including his tail he’s almost as long as our king size bed. Not even 6 freaking months. Attached File The size difference between them is getting huge fast, but she’s putting on muscle like crazy. She’s a VERY athletic and nimble dog. Still bigger than a large male at her age too. Played fetch out in the yard with a ball today. Shortly after he brought the ball in. The ball kept rolling around behind my recliner with him groaning every time. Freaking dog was trying to pick up the ball with his paw. As in stretching his toes out and trying to lift the ball up like a human. This went on for about 10 minutes of him groaning every time he tried and failed. Never seen a dog do that, but also never seen a dog with big enough paws to try it. The kids thought he was dumb for doing it. I think it was the opposite. |

So Kane is 70 pounds at almost 6 months old and he’s slow and awkward. His bones and joints are growing faster than his muscles so he has bouts of growing pains that cause him to develop an occasional limp in a random leg and be kinda awkward around stairs. If he’s riled up he just jumps the entire way up our 4 stair set on our patio. It should start clearing up as his muscles hit a growth spurt in the next 6-12 months, but something I wasn’t aware of with big dogs that had me concerned at first. He is huge and lanky now. His sister has started putting muscle on insanely fast so we’re hoping his muscle growth spurt is coming up quick too. Both just got their adult teeth within a week of each other but he is now considerably taller. |

Growth has slowed a lot. Both of them aren’t eating as much as they used to, but 75 pounds at 6.5 months is still pretty hefty. He set his bowl down in front of me and laid down. He wasn’t going to let me pass without food or belly scratches. (He got both.) His forearm is the size of my 11.5 shoe. Attached File We have to lock our exterior doors now. He figured out pushing the rear sliding door open by the handle, and has now started pawing at the slide lock at the bottom of the door frame too. Our front screen door is a swing handle that he’s already mastered. |

Going to keep going in case anyone else faces this. Kane had an arched back. Pretty severely. Began researching it and found most people saying the dog is screwed and will always have issues. Attached File Then I found some hippie lady talking about how big dogs don’t realize how fast they’ve grown and try to maintain their stride length. In doing so, they cause their backs to hunch and they often have trouble breaking this cycle. The recommendation she had was simple. Have the dog stand up and walk on their back legs just a couple times a day. I’ll be damned. After just a few weeks, not only does he not arch nearly as much, he’s gotten faster, jumps confidently without being riled up, and goes up and down stairs a lot faster. Going to keep at it since he still hunches on our panel flooring but that’s a traction issue more than a mistake in posture. Attached File |

Kane is 80 pounds exactly as of his 7 month birthday. I was worried he was being over fed. Turns out he just has massive thoracic muscles and there’s only two tiny strips where you can feel his ribs. Was told judge by his waist because he is a brick. He still has lots of growing to do. He is bigger than both his mom and dad now. He has almost 20 pounds on his sister. He is now faster than his sister too. Physical agility wise, the stand walking exercises turned him into an entirely different dog. The posture correction that caused was insane. |
