| I've recently found myself in need of a VPN to use outside of the U.S. for streaming services, gaming and computer use. I'm a noob who has no experience with using a VPN. Any recommendations? |

| I've used a paid version of ProtonVPN daily on my devices for the last few years. Prior to that, I used Private Internet Access VPN. I've used both of them when traveling abroad without any issues. |

When I want anonymity, I use PIA VPN. When I want to appear US-based, I connect to the WireGuard instance that I've installed on my home network (Raspberry Pi) so all my traffic looks like it's literally coming from my home connection. Bonus, it's the completely free option. |
| Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up going with Express VPN as it is owned / operated by the same parent company that owns PIA vpn. the kicker for me was that Express had a wifi 6 router that was 50% off at just under 100 dollars that seemed to be easy to set up to work with the vpn service and anything connected to the router. $120.00 for over two years of subscription didn't seem too bad either. |

I use Proton VPN, paid account that comes with other things. But I also have a Unifi network at home that I use Wireguard to remote into when I am not at home. If I'm out of the US, I just fire up wireguard and I'm on my home network. |

I quit using PIA, as it is owned by an Israeli company, as many others are. I don't trust a VPN provider coming from Israel or any of the Five Eyes countries. I'm using NordVPN as a privacy VPN, and Wireguard back to my home network if I want to access that, or appear like I'm on my home network (streaming services, etc). I'm not all that worried about privacy for questionable streaming sources OCONUS as many many countries don't care that much about that like the US does. |
