Thinking about a new bass, looking at stuff under $1000. The Sire P8 has caught my eye, seems like a lot of good features for the price but it doesn't look like there are any dealers very close to me to try one out. Anybody ever play one? From what I'm reading the potential downsides are they're heavy, the electronics can be hit or miss, and overall qc can be spotty, but it looks like most people who actually own one say they're a great value, as good as a bass twice the price. I'd really like to play one before buying, which would mean a 6 hour round trip to Leesburg.

| @LoBrau Sorry, I just saw this, but about 5-6 years ago my son bought a Sire M2 V2 Modern 5 string and it's been an exceptional bass. It had a bad tuner on arrival but I actually communicated directly with the owner of Sire and he shipped out a replacement during covid. My son started with the a vintage Washburn 4 string I found for him snd the Sire he bought with his own money with a bunch of birthday GC gift cards. GC got it shipped out two days before the local municipality shut down GC and MF' warehouse lol. TBH that was really good service from GC online. He's now a semi pro musician and still gigs it regularly alongside his Ibanez BRB and sometimes his now matching 1991 Washburn Axxess basses, 4 and 5 string. The Sire he got was a mid level model but still had great electronics. Neck is stable. |
Crap Magnet Extraordinaire
Had to dig around and find some of the shows I did with the Sire S9. Magic Flea  Caravan-Free Fridays at Bo Diddley Plaza May 2018 Sorry for the so so audio. Did not have any real good indoor show recordings of the S9 or the old M7. I have too many basses so I rotate through them. This week, it is the UB80 upright and a Stangray HH. |

Thanks for the feedback. While I'm still interested in a sire someday, my dad, who has been honing his luthier chops over the last few years as his retirement gig, offered and is now currently building me a custom bass. So that's awesome and I'll be sure to share it with you guys when it's done.

I'm going to be building my son a bass from the same 200+ year old reclaimed pine i built my Tele from, prob Warmoth neck bc i dont have neck making tools. For a bass i have to prob put maple or walnut layer on the back.

| Nice. He's using white limba for the body, 35in scale roasted maple neck he's making with a patagonian Rosewood fretboard, ivory split block inlays from my old piano I took apart awhile ago, quarter pound p+j pickups, Bartolini active passive electronics, etc. I'm stoked. |
