I sent it to DAG Camera to get it checked and the battery converted from the old mercury one to a modern 1. That'll run another $600 so I'll have $2300 in it. I'll get a 35mm and 90mm lens as soon as I get it back from KEH and have a decent Leica setup if the meter works in the M5. Hopefully I can swing a M6 around Xmas this year Sweet RFs gents.

I figure I'm going to retire 2026 and that's going to be something I can do again. Anyone else here going old school? Because you can't see the shot before you push the shutter trigger it forces you to look at what you're shooting and forces you to think about the shot more carefully. Because you can only carry so much film it forces you to be more careful. If you use a manual cam with only a light meter and manual focus it "gets out of the way" once you've gained useful mastery of it. |

Test rolls from the Canonets arrived. I cleaned the insides as best as possible (again) as both rolls from the black one had significantly more dust/ lint than the two rolls from the silver. Looks like the leaf shutters, film transports, light seals, focus, yada yada yada... are working. From the last roll of Pro Image 100 through the silver Canonet, inop lightmeter so used sunny 16 rules, Tombstone. Some dust cleanup of bigger flotsam, straightening and cropping, downsize for web. No color corrections added at the scanner or in post processing, as close as possible to as-developed.

It has a 120 holder, and IIRC it can do 3 or 4 645, or 2 6x9, or one 6x17. Not as good as a dedicated unit, but good enough for my uses. The two times I paid for scans (premium, not basic, 2 different shops) they were actually worse than what I did myself using the Epson. Finding a shop that does really decent scans is key IMHO. |

Ok gents, I went farther down the film rabbit hole today (I just nicknamed this "Bugs"....get it  ) My "new" Leica M6, just in from KEH. It's a 1995 production that was listed in "excellent plus" shape. $3316 with tax. I'm contacting DAG Camera to see if he'll do a CLA on it. It's a 1995 production model so you gotta figure 30 years old it could use a tune up and oil change. The lens is a 50mm Zeiss f2, when I get this and the M-5 I sent DAG a couple weeks ago back I'll look at a Zeiss 35mm and maybe a 28mm |
