This place has accurate depth of the entire planet. Linky What are all those forms on the ocean floor heading into the Mediterranean from the Atlantic? It's pretty in your face that Africa and Europe were connected and it looks like a dried up waterfall. Found 1 of the floods anyway, then ice ages, though this is probably an ice age casualty. They look like LIDAR finding the structures under the tree growth in S. America and under the sand in Africa and under the grass in other areas. There's a lot of hoizontal "bands" stitched together which I would say is the sensor and compilation noise of the map already, these extra lines just in this spot don't seem like they would be extra noise on a world bathymetry map. Thoughts? Detail of area I'm speaking of below, the strange straight lines making angular shapes from lower left corner to the Strait of Gibraltar.

I’m no bathymetrist, but I do know a thing or two about taking point cloud elevation data and creating a “topo” map in GIS. I suspect those are artifacts of muddy sensor data and/or where the topology equation decided to draw a line on nearly flat large terrain sections. But it is interesting, and warrants further investigation. |

I read something on this once. The straight lines and patterns are boat trails towing high resolution sonar around navigation channels, as well as gaps in the sonar data. The sat images are overlaid and it creates the composite effect. Attached File So the entire “waterfall” area is well covered with sonar. The black lines are the outer edges of the boats movements and where they turned around and circled back up into the channel. The smooth parts south of the channel are sat based. |

| There are pictures floating around somewhere of the Gulf of America off the southwest coast of Florida and Cuba that are very similar to these. It’s been a few months since those popped up so I don’t know where to find them now. They were from where boats are slowly mapping the sea floor. |
