Just finished watching it. A lot of melodrama contrived for TV. There was some pretty good aerial footage. I think the Blue Angels movie had better footage. I read somewhere that there was another Thunderbirds movie filmed but it was a security breach or something and the movie got canceled. Is there any truce to that? |

I have known 2 Thunderbird Commanders. Both were great guys. One put his papers in while he was Thunderbird Lead and the other became a 3 Star. Both had to put a game face on to lead the team, they understood they were front stage and did their job but it was not something either one aspired to do. They were picked so they did the job but as mudEagle said nobody flying fighters thinks much of the show because that mission isnt tactical and fighter pilots generally are mission oriented and not really people persons. |

I noticed several of the Tbird pilots in the movie came from F15's. I would assume they had moved to vipers prior to getting accepted to Tbirds, or do they actually transition into the new jet as part of the assignment? |

Two different mentalities between the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels. All good pilots, and good maintenance crews. But the Blues are more approachable and can turn off the ‘elite’ attitude as it fits the occasion. Thunderbirds maintain the attitude all the time. Back in the early to mid 90's (when Dinosaurs roamed the earth), I was a controller at CGX. Thus, when the Chicago Air & Water Show happened every summer, the Air Operations staff for the airshow portion had three Chicago area facility controllers assigned to it. Being on that staff, you interacted with both teams (albeit on a limited basis). I found the Blue Angels ops staff and the US Navy's 'Leap Frogs' to be the most arrogant pricks on the planet. To be fair, I had zero interaction with any actual Blue Angels demonstration pilots. The Thunderbirds' demonstrator pilots that I did interact with were very personable and easy to work with. Now, I will say this, having watched/worked with both teams from 1993 thru 1996, the Blue Angels, hands down, put on a way better show. |

The netflix movie focused a lot on Primo's issues on the rejoin after the bomb burst and the movie implies that he only got it right on or shortly before certification. That seems really made up bullshit TV melodrama. Am I right? I did read somewhere though that one of the recent fatalities was gloc in that maneuver. |
