I haven't been idle on my photography, I just haven't had anything in progress that I can really post publicly of late. I have a project coming up that I'm needing to color some light, but I haven't really found a great way to keep gels in place on my strobes. Using Progaff to hold the gel over the middle of the stripbox is giving 'meh' color to the light, but I don't want to cut gels to fit on the bulb assemblies unless I really need to. Any ideas? Worst case I can use 7" reflectors with grids, barn doors, color and diffusion gels, but it's just less ideal. |
| Is the tape failing and creating light leakage or are there gaps already there? You could put the gels in a thin document protector and use duct tape? If you left it in there for weeks or something it would probably damage inside of the strip box, but might be okay for a day or two. If you're getting any light leakage at all or using too high a power on the flash you'll get crap light. |

I’ll get some cheaper duct tape and try that though. I’m sticking around 1/8 so it shouldn’t be too much power. Trying to play with color on someone wearing latex. |

What's your lighting gear? Dimensions on your current gels? I use the color pack of ROSCO 12x12" or specific colored gels I'll go bigger like 20x24" and use a small strip of gaffers tape to afix to the rods inside the softbox. get it close to the strobe, but obviously give it space - especially if using the modeling light. I've never had a melting issue using Profoto strobes w/ various size soft boxes. You could alway just use black metal binder clips to hold the gels over the reflector and use a shoot through white umbrella too. |

Originally Posted By Berger24: B&H camera- ROSCO has single color large gels you can purchase separately. B&H as much as I love them, charge an arm and a leg to ship up here. Amazon has some 16x20 gels that aren't too horribly priced at least. I'll order a set and screw around with those. |

I've seen myriad of ways of doing it, all jerry rigging. Magnets, gaff tape, clothespins, etc. Personally I've cut out carboard to keep the gel taught, then attached that with tape. Taping directly the piece tends to be wavy and produce uneven results. Maybe if you have a picture of your specific gear people might think of something more creative. |
