Just going through some old family photos and doing some restoration.....my grandad and my dad, polar opposites of parental responsibility.

My grandad with my dad and uncles. My dad did not care much for my grandad. By all accounts he loved the communist party and wanted the government to take care of them. He made good money working for the big electric companies and then drank it away, guess he was a big shot on payday. He died when my dad (the oldest) was 16, left nothing but bills. My dad ended up being the parental figure helping to raise his younger brothers. My dad didn't ask for handouts and worked hard. It was hard, they were poor but he did what he needed to do. Worked at the gas station, might have run a little moonshine but he never admitted to it. Fixed their cars all weekend so he and his mom could get to work during the week. Learned to work on cars and put himself through tech schools, getting certs in welding and mechanics. Eventually got a job with the railroad in the mailroom. He worked his way up and eventually met my mom there. Mom was divorced with two kids and she two was doing it on her own with no help from her ex.

My mom and dad both came from humble backgrounds and no one owed them anything. They built their lives and family on their own. What a horrible country we had that you could make your way on your own with work and motivation.

Appalachian buck down.
