I would hang onto the original top for awhile. You might change your mind on the soft top after some hard rains. Especially if it’s not in a garage. Edit to add Burgundy sounds good. Or a bright red. The old GM burnt orange color didn’t look to bad either. |

Damnit, I love resto threads. Thanks for sharing, OP.

| I love those old school Jimmy and Blazers from the 1980s. The 305 engines they came with were real dogs, only making around 170 HP. But that was the way it was back then. Nothing stock made much power in those days. It's interesting to note that there are now 4-banger engines that make more power than that 305 did. Cool project. |

This may be a dumb question, so I want to say up front - I am deaf, I can not hear anything except for gunshots that are a few feet away from me (and I'd actually feel it before hearing it). Does that very thin layer of material REALLY deaden sound? Does it make noise go completely away, or just reduce it a little bit? If it does help, why are the wheel wells not covered too? |

I’ve read it does. From what I understand, the Butyl (layer of closed cell rubber) reduces the vibrations which reduces road noise. I had a 96 F150. I pulled the carpet because it was disgusting. As I was waiting for the new carpet, I could tell a difference in road noise. Thats my best answer. That stuff is thicker than it looks and its relatively heavy for its thickness. |

The drive home when I bought it was 4 hours, 3 on the interstate. I was surprised how good it ran at around 80 mph. I really excited to see how the 350 performs, especially with all new suspension and rebuilt transmission. |

I'm selling mine as soon as I get a new fuel pump and get it on BaT. Attached File No rust, all original 56k mile survivor. |

I bought my '87 on Halloween of '86. Around 1990 or 1991, the bottom of the fuel tank rusted through (lots of sand and gravel trapped between the tank and tank shield didn't help). The fuel lines were rusted to the connection at the fuel level sender. It was fun dropping the tank while trying to manipulate the sender out of the tank at the same time. It had over 100k miles on it when I sold it in early 1992. Good luck. Also, just an FYI, I was at Barrett-Jackson in West Palm Beach in April, 2023. There were a couple of K5s there in the $18-20k range. Not sure how much prices have changed since then. |

That IS the definition of a survivor! Very nice. Why you selling her? |

I had an 82 K5 with the 6.2 diesel and 700r4. Absolute money pit with so many problems it was unreal. But it never got stuck. Not once. Not in the mud, not in the snow, not in the sand at the beach. I used to get a kick out of pulling the ford/dodge trucks up slippery hills in the winter time. It was my first Chevy "truck" hard lesson. A few years later I got a 2005 Silverado and it was a repeat of the Blazer experience. I told the guy that wanted to buy it what a problem it had always been for me and he didn't care. He wanted it and just knew he could fix it. About 6 months after he bought it he called and told me he was about to throw a stick of dynamite into the cab and just walk away. OP, those are good looking "trucks" and the short turning radius is nice off the road. Hope it works out well for you. In spite of the issues I had with mine I still sometimes think it would be nice to have one again as long as I didn't drive it in the salt of the winter roads. |
How you live your life is important. Just be sure the memory of how you died doesn't overshadow the tales of how you lived your life.

I hope with the amount of $ Im putting into her, basically everything is new or rebuilt, I wont have too many problems. |

As long as you are going through the truck, and assuming you are going with the 1/2 ton axles, I suggest you replace, or re-loctite, this pin/bolt in your rear diff. https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/gm-bolt-11546644.html If it breaks or comes lose, you are going to have a bad time.

It does in an odd way. You can buy the stuff to roof/door/floor it. I have had the chance to do flatline and lizard skin on 2 identical trucks with having a third similar truck to compare. It cuts on the noise but the bigger thing is the heat. It really cuts on the heat which helps if you install AC. |
