Yesterday I got a call from Robert’s (tnsparky) dad to find out that Robert had lost his battle with cancer. Last October, Robert went to see his doctor due to complaints of stomach pains. It was then he found out that he had cancer in his colon and liver. It wasn't long before the cancer spread to his lungs.
I met him and so many other people I now call friends in the 24/365 threads. Who knew that 24/365 would go from a thread on the internet to tight knit group that acts like a family? It’s a sad day for all of us, as we have lost one of our own. We all called him friend. Since Robert was local to me, I got to know him the best. We spent a fair amount of time either at Odell’s brewery or out in the Eastern plains shooting prairie dogs. He was even a guest at my wedding. When we weren't hanging out in real life, we were razzing each other on arfcom. He was quite fond of saying “suck me sideways” when no other retort would do. Robert was working on his PhD in electrical engineering at Colorado State University, when he was presented with an opportunity to go work with sonar equipment for a company in New Jersey. Of course he jumped at the chance and he was well on his way to making a very successful life for himself. I certainly missed my drinking and hunting buddy, but I was happy for him. Robert was an opinionated, stubborn son of a gun, but he was also one of the most caring, gracious people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I will miss him dearly. The only good news in all of this, is that Robert is no longer in pain. Rest in peace buddy. We’re all going to miss you. As to cancer, suck me sideways. |
