What would be a good short barrel length got the 6.5 Grendel? I have the ammo, I have a completed lower, So I am not interested in a new caliber. |

Another 12.5” here. With a .30 caliber can, it handles great. A quote from another member here…….(I’m sorry don’t remember who). “A 10.5” 123 gr 6.5 Grendel has more ft/lbs energy at 400 yds than a 20” .30-30 150 gr has at 200 yds. Let that soak in, then think of how much game has been taken with a .30-30.” …….so a 12.5” would even be a tad better. |

| Love the Grendel! 18” BCA stainless bolt action upper stays in overlook condition in my cabin while I work on sawmill. Have taken several coyotes at 150 yds while eating lunch or on a quick break from milling. Deer also when in season. I think it’s a little light for bear. Jmho. |

I have a 10.5 bbl that I intended for some 90gr varmit weight bullets that I haven't built yet . |

I use a 12” as a dedicated hog gun (thermal/supressed) I’ve killed a few deer with it too, out to about 200 yds. 123gr ELD-M. Kills em dead, every time. |

| I have owned 24, 20, 18, 16 inch Grendels.. Of all those rifles (multiples in some barrel lengths) the 18" barrels gave me the best performance overall. Sure shorter barrels are a little easier to manipulate in enclosed areas, but that is such a small amount of what I used the Grendels for that I got the most use and benefit from the 18" barreled rifles. I had other firearms for suppressed use. |

Grendel in 12.5 is about the perfect whitetail gun. I’ve got: 12.5 Proof Carbon Fiber 2.5-10 Leupold 13.9 Craddock 1-6 Accupoint 16 Lilja 2.5-10 Credo 18” JP 2.5-10 Credo 18” Noveske 2.5-15 Credo 20” Proof carbon fiber 4-16 Credo 20” Proof SS 3-18 Meopta All are more geared towards hunting. I’ve got several 6arcs too but they’re more geared towards range while still being compact. Obviously either can do both. |

It’s a very nice barrel for its weight. And with the right ammo it’ll absolutely frag a 123gr out to 300 or so and buck the wind pretty good too. |

I really enjoy my 12.5 Grendel. I try for high shoulder shots and it drops them every time. I'm using up my SST ammo then probably switch to ELD. Here's some damage from one. Click To View Spoiler |
| If i wasn't so heavily invested in 6.8SPC, I'd definitely build a 12.5" 6.5 Grendel with a 1-6×. |

For those taking deer with the 12.5", what would you consider your effective range? I'm seriously tempted to build another Grendel off the IC receiver set I have sitting around. However, I'd like to take Colorado black bear with it and am thinking the 14.5" would give me an edge. |

Based on chrono and atmospheric data relative to me, my 12.5 will frag reliably to 340m. I use it as a woods gun where it won’t go over 100, and if I planned on going over 1000 I’d use something else, but that’s because I have a lot of rifles. Plus I enjoy having more capability than I’ll need. |

I’m not taking any deer anywhere but the freezer, but I’d be perfectly comfortable killing one inside 250y with either of mine. In truth I kill most of my deer at 100y or less if I can. |

6.5 grendel is popular enough that someone should offer NAS3 cases for it . If they can do 6arc , they can do this. Also would go well with 12.5" bbl . Throw in some AerMet100 bolts for good measure . Oh , and magpul needs some lower cap polymers for the icar too . In Sand ...for dying . |

Depends on what you are comfortable with, 2350fps (31.5gr CFE223)with 123gr SSTs would look similar to this.
