2024 Subaru WRX (Page 1 of 22)

I've been wanting one for quite a while and I'm looking for a good deal on one. My local dealer has a Base model for $31,988 which I am told is invoice cost. I'm seeing posts from people who say they got $30k OTD or $30.5 OTD for a Base WRX. I can't get my dealer to touch those deals, especially with sales tax at 9%. I made an offer of $30k + TTL but it was rejected. It's getting to be the end of the year and I thought they'd be ready to deal so I'm surprised they're holding firm. The WRX is a cold seller for them now and they have several on the lot. Any words of wisdom from the hive? |

Just TTL on a WRX is going to be around $3k, so how people are getting one for $30.5K OTD is nothing short of amazing. I'd be on that deal like white on rice. My local dealer wants about $35K OTD for a Base model. |
Regarding your end of the year comment, all I got is, if you are willing to go/wait the distance, you can sometimes get an outstanding deal on the last day of the year. We bought one on New Years's Eve last year and it was the best deal we ever got. And I've been blessed to have bought my share of autos in my life. But IMO it's gotta kinda be spur of the moment - I think some dealers are willing to engage in crazy deals at the end of the year, but it's probably gotta be "I'm here, tomorrow is the new year, wanna make a deal?", so they don't have time to group and scheme and plan on their end, in rebuttal. Also, always be sweet - the auto folks in general are used to constantly dealing with angry, combative customers, so a little courtesy goes a long way.

I took the advice and sent emails to several dealers here in my state and in TX. One guy messaged me and asked me to give him a call. They had 13 WRX 2024 models on the lot and they really needed to find a way to get them moving. I gave him a call. He was a cool guy. I told him I wanted to get a Base model WRX for $29K. That's pretty far below invoice and he said he couldn't go that low. I then told him I'd agree to $30k. Eventually, I was able to get them to agree to $30,750 plus TTL. That was about $1k below invoice. And they offered me 1.9% APR on the balance. It was on a black one they had on the lot that had been sitting for a while. I picked it up last night after work. Man, it's a fun car with the manual. I didn't have to do a lease, which I glad about, and I feel like I got a pretty good deal. I haven't had much time to play around with it, but I have a long weekend. I have it on a battery tender tonight since I'm not sure how long it was on the lot. It only had 16 miles on it so it hasn't seen much driving. |

Lol, I'll grab some pics this morning and post 'em if I have time before I have to leave. The dealer didn't put an inspection sticker on it for some reason so I can't drive it around much until I take care of that on Monday, weather permitting. That's weird because it's usually the first thing they do after getting it off the truck and cleaned up. It took forever to get out of the dealership Thursday night. They wanted to upsell me on literally everything. I stuck to my guns, though. What really made the deal for me was the 1.9% APR. Subaru America is serious about moving some inventory before the end of they year. I asked my salesman why they had so many WRX units on the lot and why there didn't seem to be anything more than a few test drives on my WRX although it had been on the lot a couple of months. He told me no one knows how to drive a manual anymore and no one is interested. I told him I specifically wanted a manual. That was also another big selling point for me. And the WRX is still made in Japan, which further sweetened the deal. I've always wanted a car with a turbo motor. Everything really just came together in a way I couldn't say no to. The Base model now has a lot of upgrades that, before, only came on the upper models such as the big 11 inch screen and Eyesight. The Base doesn't have the rear spoiler, but it looks cleaner without it, I think. I really wanted a Homelink mirror but it was probably an expensive dealer option. It came with some really nice rubber-tray floor mats, Weathertech style. Just some very nice attention to detail that I noticed and appreciated. If you're in the market for a Subaru and can travel, and are not too far away, I'd totally recommend the dealer, Giles Subaru in Lafayette, La. They had a pretty full lot when I was there and they are willing to horse trade to get them sold. |

Congrats on the new ride! I bought a 2023 WRX in February. Really fun car. Be warned that most of the online groups/forums have a lot of members who are after looks instead of function and want a loud exhaust without caring about performance gains.

I thought it might be the tire equipment in that Styrofoam tray under the trunk mat. I am going to remove it when I have a chance and drive around to see if I still get the sound over bumps. That tray is fairly heavy with all of the tools, so I can't rule it out as a cause. And it looks like it would bounce with a pretty big bump. There's no spare tire, so the noise can't be a spare that's not properly tamped down. That was another thought I had. I'm going to keep listening to see if I can further isolate where it's coming from. I've read of other owners who have had a similar problem, something about a design problem with the rear struts losing grease. Hopefully, it's just the loose tray in the back. Good idea to empty the trunk and try again. Got a set of ramps you could back up onto, to see if anything is obviously loose? |

Before I bought mine, the salesman (who was a WRX enthusiast and a good dude) had me test drive a WRX with the OEM STI exhaust on it. Holy crap it was loud!!! I got in the car, started it up, then almost immediately shut it off and got back out. Didn't even drive it. I didn't want that loud drone in my ear all the time, nor did I want to wake up the neighbors if I start my car early. Just things to consider. |

Even in the constant bumper to bumper traffic that is my AO. I often joke that the unemployment rate here has to be above 96% given how many people have nothing else to do but drive around all day creating total gridlock. Yet, everyone is flush with gas money somehow. |

They really are fun, aren't they? I should flip my rear seatbacks down and see if I have that same metal lip you describe. FWIW, mine came with the rubber seatback protectors and trunk mat[1] so when you fold them down to put something big in the trunk your cargo will rest on rubber. That might have the effect of damping the sound you're hearing. [1] It was a car already on the lot and was the trim I wanted with the options I liked so I didn't balk about it having a couple of things I would not have ordered if I ordered from the factory. |

Too much time. Maybe I'll take a break and add some lights. They make LED inserts that fit in the rear fender reflector spots. And a relay that changes up the rear lights. It's actually pretty cool. I probably need to just go to bed. ETA: I also bought a spare tire to put in the trunk. Less than $200 for a steel wheel and new tire. I really don't like not having a spare, especially when I need to travel. I'm going to lose that Styrofoam tray, but I'll get creative with a solution. |

I was thinking that the extra 1/8"(?) of rubber on my seatbacks might press against that dash edge thereby preventing any vibration. It'll be a couple of days before I can look at mine because I have it up on jacks until I get a wheel back from being repaired from the stupidity I inflicted upon it. I don't want to be opening doors and yanking on parts until it is back on terra firma. |

I test drove a WRX that looked exactly like yours. I too, was looking for a manual transmission. I kinda wished it had spoken to me a just a wee bit more as it would certainly be a lot more practical than the Miata RF I ended up with. Congrats on it my fellow manual enthusiast. A lot of my coworkers don’t understand why I would buy a car with that “shifty” thing. |

The rear dash is one large sheet of thin plastic. I'm not surprised it easily buzzes when tapped. I'm going to lift it up and place some sound deadening pads under it when they come in. I didn't see on Amazon that the delivery date is in early January. That should help. It's impressive that Subaru has been able to engineer the car to be as quiet as it is considering the interior is mostly hard plastic. My WRX is my second vehicle, but I still wanted to be somewhat practical. I had a 1990 Miata back in the day. It was a fun vehicle but it was definitely a hobby car. Still, I hated to have to sell it. |

I did the first oil change on the WRX yesterday at about 700 miles. The oil was much darker than I expected for such low mileage. I can't believe Subaru is telling people they need to go 6k miles on that oil. Especially since it's a 0w20 grade. I didn't see anything in the oil, which was a relief. It just looked dirty. I wanted to put something a bit more robust in there given it's a turbo motor. It's cooler here now but the summers are brutal. And we have bad traffic, which I find myself in often. I would not be comfortable at all with a 20w oil in those conditions. I can't believe Toyota has moved down to a 0w16 oil for its small cars. The EPA must really be in their faces for them to spec something that thin. The rear dash deck buzzes, especially when it's cold. I ordered another set of sound-deadening mats since the other ones I ordered are still scheduled for a January delivery. I will attach it to the bottom of the dash, covering as much area as possible. That should prevent it from vibrating. The other mat I will use in the trunk area when it comes in. Otherwise, the car feels pretty solid. I have a ScanGauge 3 that I used on a short trip on Saturday. It was interesting seeing all of the data. My MAP-A reading was showing about 3.8 psi which I though was off. But I saw that the reading was supposed to be around 11-15 hg. At cold idle, the engine was reading 5-6 psi, so I'm guessing, after the conversion, it was normal. I ordered a set of axle-backs for it, but not just the muffler-delete straight pipes. I couldn't find a set of the muffler-deletes that wasn't really, really loud and raspy, lol. The set I ordered is the R1 by Remark. It's got small muffler/resonators on it that quiet it down a bit. It sounds deeper than the straight pipe setups. I don't know how restrictive the stock mufflers are, but I'd imagine it can only help to have a more free-flowing exhaust. Looking forward to installing those. |

I installed the Remark R1 axle backs this morning. It was a straightforward install. Everything fit together perfectly with the factory hardware. The sound was a bit jarring at first. But you get used to it. At idle, it's as quiet as the stock mufflers. Well, once the engine warms up. On a cold start, it's loud. When you get down on it, it's pretty loud. You definitely know you're not running stocks anymore. It sounds much better than the straight muffler-deletes I've heard. Deeper and smoother. I like it. I need to take it on the interstate to see how it sounds at speed. It seems mellow at around 3k rpm, which would be perfect. |

Good choice on not doing the muffler delete axlebacks, they sound like trash. No performance gain from an axleback btw. A full catback is little to no gain on FA24. Id do intake first if you want power and no tune. |

I'm not, because "back in the day", the wrx sti still made almost 300hp, and it was actually quick, as in, far quicker than the current wrx or wrx sti before they killed it. |

I bought a 2016 2 years ago. Haven't had a manual since my hopped-up Capris back in the 80s. My midlife crisis car! Fast enough for me, a blast on twisty back roads. The rear shelf buzz on mine was the 3rd brake light housing. Some 3/8s backer rod took care of that. Enjoy.
