I need some help from the mechanics here. I have a 2015 F150. Drove fine and parked it in the garage. Came back to it a week later and tried to back out of the garage and it wouldn't move. Did some investigating and the right rear wheel is locked up. I have attached link to a Google Photos video showing what it's doing. I can rotate the wheel forward and backwards a tiny amount. It feels like it hits something going in both directions. Rotating backwards produces the deeper thud sound and forward produces the more metallic tinny sound. In the video, you can see the center piece where the cable with the spring moves. I'm assuming this is the parking brake cable. My truck has the mechanical parking brake, not the electric one. Has anyone run into this before? I'm assuming something in the parking brake assembly has come loose or failed. I have yet to get the wheel off. I don't have the tools to take the wheel off and need to borrow some. Any help or insights are appreciate. Link: 2015 F150 Right Rear Wheel Video |

Well the thing on the back with the spring on it that is moving with it goes to the parking brake. I'd say your parking brake is stuck on. Could be the lining came off the shoe and is wedged between the shoe and the drum/ rotor. The parking brake is a small drum brake inside the brake rotor. I've eliminated them on many trucks. |

| Going to tear into it after work today. Being that it drove into my garage fine and then the next time I went it drive it it was messed up, I'm thinking possibly a spring broke or something else failed suddenly. I'll update after I have it apart. |

I use my parking break regularly in the summer but usually never use it in the winter. It doesn't matter with regards to rust jacking the lining off the metal part of the shoe if you use it or not. It can happen to pads also, but is much less common due to the heat constantly produced. |

Sorry forgot to update this. Been busy. It was definitely the parking brake. I think it was rust between the parking shoes and the inside drum of the brake rotor. I had to back the parking brake adjuster off just to get the rotor off. Once I did that, the parking brake pawl was definitely seized up. Got it loosened up and lubricated and working. Put the rotor back on, readjusted the parking brake and everything seems to be working now. Thanks for everyone's help. |
