I am considering pulling the "not today satan" move on it but may try to do something with it. I wont be pulling the cowl apart though as I for sure don't have the skills on that but would be done if the car gets pulled apart for painting later. considering pulling the temp repair with this-  Build progress- Swapped front drums out for disk- used a LEED kit which was pricey but was easy. I do have to order new front brake lines. The drivers side came apart but the passenger side just twisted up. I used a 1-1/2" knockout to modify the firewall instead of grinding worked fantastic. Passenger floorpan welded in and epoxy primed, also put down the first coat of brush on seam sealer. moving to the drivers side. Bought a front balljoint/link kit to replace all the front joints. The car only has 38k miles on it without a rollover so they were mostly good but I figured I might as well just get them all since I was getting some of them.      Screws are holding the pan in place while fitting. I was using quicko's on the passenger side but decided just to use screws. Got it marked now need to pull it up, drill my spot weld holes, clean all the metal under and either weld through prime, rust encapsulate, or coat everything that gets covered up.  Side note- someone on the fb pointed out I used the wrong floor pans. I guess if were getting technical sure, they arent the right ones due to the drain hole locations but lets be honest, its a welded in floor and we arent going to any concourse shows so I think it will be ok.

Stripping the outside. Using chems/scrapers on the large areas and a sandblaster showed up and did the rounds/unders/etc.  Trying to get everything coated in epoxy then move on to bodywork. Considering this color as the end point.

It may be, I am leaning towards trying a sniper on this one as I have a refurb on the shelf that I tried on my daughters squarebody. It left us on the side of the road 3 times so dropped a similar carb as the one I purchased onto the truck and sent the Holley in for repair. I think Ford peeps have less issues with the snipers because the distributor location vs the location on chevy which is in the back where the distributor is and I feel that's where most of the noise comes from even on a good install. Mid Nov update, I think we are almost done pulling stuff down, I think I am down to the cowl and the rear axle bearings/brakes.  1969 Mustang mid November 24 update |

Lots of sanding and trying to get the passenger side straight. Most everything was handled with icing. Hit a lot of bare metal in the process so decorated with another coat of epoxy. Was going to follow up with high build but I guess I’m out of hardener and Summit was a clusterfuxk today.  Also, coating the inside of the new cowl. Went to summit to get the tools to pull the windshield and I guess they were having legit order issues. Will have to clean off the lips for spot welding but that’s not a huge deal.

Went through the trouble to get the tool to try to remove the windshield hoping to salvage it. Turns out I should have just went with option 1 and threw a hammer through it. I guess it was worth a shot. I as told to skip around because there may be stress, turns out there way because when I got to the top center she cracked.   Had plans to leave the last inspection in place but oh well. 1990 is when it was last on the road    |

Thank you for the info, honestly carburetors are like vodoo witchcraft to me. As a side note I am back to actually needing a carb (thinking about using the sniper I have on the shelf) as one of my electrical supply salesmen needed a carb on his kids truck so I sent my purchase forward for the current time as I am frying bigger fish.

Progress... kinda, I think I need to find some 90 degree metal to fix some spots so I dont have to replace essentially the whole damn firewall.  Either way, old cowl out, moving forward and a lot of cleanup to do on the remaining surface.     I am thinking about taking this opportunity of access to replace the steering column with a tilt unit. |

That’s a good looking unit, my guess is it’s going to be like this one. One small fix results into might as well have put it in a rotisserie. Today- had some spare time so going to feel out the green. Scuffed the underside of the hood and threw down an epoxy seal coat. Going to hit it with another coat of sealer tomorrow and see how lime green the green is.  Brought in a quart of green single stage….

I went with the Ididit in my ‘66 and couldn’t be happier. KM’s had the ididits on sale so ordered a black tilting one. Showed up today so will throw the box on the shelf for later when I get there. Ordered a can of base green supposedly the same color as the single stage green paint to see if they are close enough that I can single everything that’s not the outside of the car and base/clear the outside. |

Working through the cowl install. It looked daunting but the further along I get in on it the easier it seems. Luckily I didn’t have to spring for the others and firewall. Started installing the Ididit and discovered that for a drop in unit it’s missing some much needed stuff. Cool stamp on the steering column mount, was going to coat it in some new shine but left it as is.   Test fitting the top while waiting out my fire watch since I’m done welding today but not done welding the lower  And a green and black unit popped up on my mustang post. Looks pretty clean.

Caught some time today, I did the seam sealer the other day. But I guess somehow I caught it on fire right off the bat. Luckily my daughter is home from college for the weekend and she has small arms so will have her reapply the SS up in there. Everything is welded just need to wrap up the grinding. Also caught a towel on fire under the car also in the process. 🤦🏼♂️   Threw down some epoxy to start working its way in while I find the tools to get the last few welds ground down. I think I left what I need at the FIL's garage.

Seam seal and first coat of primer, also SS'ed the underside of it inside but I sprayed the top too soon and had some paint shrinkage (example above suppressor) so letting it set up before seam sealing it. I also hit the drip rails above the door with new seam sealer- brushed to beautiful bare steel then hit is and primed it. Also- picked up a neat leverthing to play with one of my cans with.

A little paint on the upper cowl to see if the single stage I sprayed on the hood will match close enough to the 2 stage paint I ordered. Need paint here so I can fit the cover then get the fenders/hood refitted. Sprayed 2 cots of base and will let it ride until tomorrow/Monday then hit it with another and clear it.

I have come to the realization that i am going to have a hard time painting the car until spring, so I am going to work through putting it all together and just paint the stuff hidden by panels being installed- IE cowl. I have enough high build and epoxy on everything that it should give me ample time to sand it when bored.

Not a lot of progress as I’ve been busy and mopey, putting stuff together to see what I’m missing or need. Mounted a fb marketplace temp trans to the motor to make sure my headers fit the trans as I’ve read some interfere. It’s close but they fit. Mounted most of the motor in the car for now to make sure I’m on the right track. It may come out sooner or later or I may just roll with it.   Mounted the front stuff to make sure I had it all set up and honestly the brackets o picked up from summit are a hair above trash. Luckily I have the original stuff so cleaning it up and rolling with it. Gotta order some bolts for the power steering pump mount as the ones I had marked for it are all fooked up or crusty/wrong.
