Just thought I would share a new to me project. 1967 Scout 800, 196 ci 4 cylinder. Bought it running, but it hasn’t been registered in years.Attached File First was to order up some steel wheels, I will mount new rubber when I get back from a trip. The current tires are dated 2002 in the front, 1993 in the rear. Next was to bleed the brakes twice and clean the mud daubers out of the drums.Attached File Replaced the old shock absorbers.Attached File Removed the top.Attached File Ordered up the windshield gasket to replace the cracked windshield. Attached File Next is an engine tuneup with front differential service and front disc conversion to follow. The plan is to drive it occasionally for a year or so while I track down parts, then start a frame off restoration with tasteful safety upgrades. |

That brings back some fond memories. I drove my dad's '71 Scout back in the early 90's when I got to driving age. Sky blue body with a white top. It lived most of its life in Arizona and the deserts of California before coming to Ohio. It finally gave up and died. Rear seal and rust. I couldn't afford to fix it back then. 😪 |

| i agree keep it with either the 4 cylinder or another scout engine. I have a CJ7 i was originally planning to swap a SBC but changed my mind. I want to keep it fairly original. So my plan is to one day rebuild the 4.2l. Maybe put a 4.0l head on it for a little more power. But it is more than enough. I don't want to really go faster than 55 mph anyway in that thing. |

I can understand wanting to keep the speed down, between the lack of ABS, airbags, seatbelts or crumple zone this thing is a rolling death trap. The roll bar is an 80’s fake, more of a show bar. I am considering an actual cage with seatbelt bungs in the future. |

I rolled my 06 TJ after hitting black ice at about 40, doing a 540, and hitting the shoulder sideways. I continued to spin while rolling and ended up on about a 45° angle in a snow-filled ditch. Between the roll and the winching-out that bar really did its job, the doors both opened and closed smoothly afterward. There was a little damage to the hardtop and one side window was shattered by my tow hitch going through it from the inside. I know it’s not a roll bar but I’m impressed nonetheless. |

There is a IH scout 2 with a diesel for sale by me that looks to be in VG shape for $12.5. Orange and white. I think 0-60 was measured in those in days. |

I grew up with a Scout for my entire young life. lol Dad bought this when it was 2 years old.....pretty much your machine I think. 4 cylinder engine. I don't think the engine EVER cooled off, since Dad was pushing snow with it, hauling wood, etc etc. What a great little machine. Good luck with yours, OP.  |
