He contibues he psuedo-interregation in the middle of the produce section, so I tell him I don't appreciate the way he's addressing, and perhaps we should speak to a manager. (We had already played the BS game of you have to leave/ now he won't let me leave) So I walk off looking for a manager and officer friendly trails me. He's really kind of hostile at this point, and I'm not really interested in his problems, I just want to continue shopping. We go intyo a manager's office - which I almost protested, but I know he'd have to resort to physical assault at that point. Inside teh office we continue the ID /gimme your name game. Since I was on private property, hadn't broken any laws and was a customer, I wasn't inclined to play the ID game. So then we get the 'stand up and turn around' speech. (Officer frindly might want to get to the gym more often. When he tried to manhandle me and put the cuffs on me, he was trying to use more force, and I could have easily avoided him cuffing me if I wanted to, but since I was of the opinion i hadn't done anything wrong, I didn't want to risk any legit resisting charges) I was under arrest for failure to ID. The city cops are still in hardass mode and start the interrogation game again. At this point, I'd rather just go downtown and call my attorney then put up with more stupid questions. Local cop # 1 keeps asking me if I know the officer that first contacted me. "Do you know this officer???" "what do you mean??" "are you stupid?? are you 4??? Do you know this officer" "I met him about 5 minutes ago" "Do you know this officer???" "I don't understand the question" "are you a lawyer..." They're trying to sweat me like I'm an escaped felon or something....telling me when I won't produce ID or give my name, I must be 'up to something' "maybe you just robbed a bank...maybe you just killed someone!!" "and my first move is to go shopping for fresh produce?????" I told the 1st officer that he had approached me in an aggressive manner and it made me go into a defensive mode. having run me for wants/warrants, he decides all his warning indicators are wrong, and evidently I AM just shopping for produce and takes off my new jewelry that didn't match my outfit. Had to go back and find new bananas. Thanks for keeping us safe. Shit like this makes my blood boil. When we vote to cut their budgets or not approve a budget increase, they start to cry foul. Well what did they expect when they abuse their power? They're not required to respond to 911 calls and they don't have to "protect and serve" the public, so why do we even need them? Everyone is guilty until proven innocent from their perspective. "Show me your papers comrade!"  |

100% truth. I'm not afraid to admit when I scrw things up. and to be honest, I still don't feel the need to ID on private property. The officer being a (possible) employee of the store may change the equation. |
