[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Why I hate CLASSIC ROCK RADIO....... (Page 3 of 3)

Commercial radio sucks. If the suits on Madison Avenue thought that reading the Manhattan phone book in Klingon would get ratings, they'd put in on the air. I use my MP3 player. No station would put Alice in Chains, Savoy Brown, Frank Zappa, Frank Marino, Motorhead, Robert Cray and AC/DC on the same playlist. The variety would cause the sheeple to have a meltdown. KISM of Bellingham Wa........I've heard everything from Segar to Motorhead in the same hour at times..........Hell they even play the lesser known Nazerath tunes...[meaning not on "Hair of the Dog"] |

More than a feeeeeling....
Clear channel and cookie cutter programming has killed off commercial radio. They set out to maximize shareholder value by buying up all the radio stations, achieving economies of scale in advertising and programming, and applying some well-tested program formats. The problem was that after the end of all that, nobody wanted to listen to the product. There are maybe ten formats, and in the end they're all the same damn thing. See all those people running around with iPods? That's a direct rebuke to commercial radio. Radio should have a lot of advantages over an iPod; they can play new and interesting music, for one. Instead people retreat into their own playlists. If you're going to listen to the same damn 100 songs over and over again, they might as well be something you like. http://www.kpig.com. Found it on the internet. They stream. They're sort of alt-country, Gram Parsons "cosmic American Music", but they play stuff that's interesting and unpredictable, including Rex Bob Lowenstein. Recent playlist: http://kpig.com/playlist As of tonight, Keb Mo, Phish, Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys, Bob Marley, Dave Alvin, Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams, Warren Zevon, Bruce Cockburn, and Jerry Lee Lewis. You can't complain too much about that. |
