[ARCHIVED THREAD] - "Two Homes Just Exploded—The Hidden Danger in Battery Storage" StacheD Training (Page 2 of 2)

I keep my fuel (gas, portable propane tanks, and farm diesel) is a shed away from my house. I keep my firewood and outdoor boiler for my home heat in a different shed away from my house. When I am able to afford a solar battery backup system, it will be kept away from my house in a different shed. Storing that much potential energy in my house seems like a bad idea when it can fail as a result of something internal to a battery that while I can mitigate the danger, I can not eliminate it. Secondly, most batteries are made in China, and I have zero faith in their quality control. |

Quoted: My son is T1D. I started with a AC200Max and then transitioned to full home solar. I've got about two years of insulin, but if it ever gets hot or frozen it's done. Quoted: Quoted: Exactly one my justifications for adding a solar option at my place. I'm not diabetic, but two in my circle are insulin dependent. It will be nice to have refrigeration storage that is not grid dependent. It could give them more time if things slide backwards. I've got about two years of insulin, but if it ever gets hot or frozen it's done. @jaqufrost We used your system as inspiration for the one we are putting in the new house. 24 x 520w panels on a ground array with 2 x 15kwh Franklin batteries. Have pretty much everything except the AC and washer/ dryer on the battery breaker panel. Also put a in 13kw propane generator plumbed to the 1000gal buried LP tank to juice the batteries if the sun dies |

Quoted: When I was a kid a home in my neighborhood exploded, they did hot air balloons and stored their tanks in the basement. A leak a pilot light, kaboooley. Picked the whole house up off the foundation moved it over a couple of feet and set it back down. Quoted: Quoted: IDK about their systems but ... Putting *any* large battery bank inside of a house just seems like you're really asking for it. You might as well put your LP tank inside your house. Picked the whole house up off the foundation moved it over a couple of feet and set it back down. "Hot air" will float a balloon, but it won't explode. ETA: maybe propane tanks? |

They'll be at a pretty high inclination and should help quite a bit in winter. I also upped my battery storage to 50kwh. I'd like to add another 15kwh or so. Trying to cover all my winter heating needs is the hard part. Summer time I make a ton of extra. |

We can tack on something like 6 more of these 15kw batts in the future if we want to, but I want to see how much we generate and use for the first year or two before putting any more in. |
