I was infantry in the US Army and my brother was infantry in the USMC. After one if his rough deployments in 2012, he came home and seemed normal until one night we got a call from his wife that he was in the living room of their apartment outside Camp Pendleton and he was noticeably acting different, and she (his wife) was scared, and she called me and my wife to come over. She said his voice was different and he wasn't himself and he was scaring her and the kids. So being a believer in Christ, with still alot to learn about the spiritual realm, I grabbed my Bible and my wife and I went over there. His wife met us outside and said that I should go in there alone and to leave my wife outside. Well I go through the front door and there he is, sitting there, staring at the wall. He's a big guy too, very lean, 240 gunner type. As soon as I walked in, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I felt an energy shift in the room that is difficult to explain. I knew right away we were dealing with a spiritual matter. I sat down next to him and started asking basic questions, and the tone of his voice and the look on his face was NOT him. This voice that came out of was very deep and hoarse and full of anger, and the look on his face was not my brother. It's hard to describe but something was in him. He was having trouble answering basic questions and I didn't know any better than to open the Bible and started reading scriptures out of Mark. As soon as the book opened up he became more angry and I was told numerous times to shut the Bible and not to dare read out of it. I asked why I shouldn't read out of it, I was told that everything in that book is a lie and I shouldn't read fairy tales. Each time something like this was said, it was followed by a loud mocking laughter. So at this point I am convinced I am dealing with the supernatural. The only thing I knew to say was "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus, whatever you are or wherever you came from, you need to leave". All my 'brother' did was laugh, and the laugh got louder and louder and louder. I just kept repeating what I was saying and he finally stopped laughing and looked right into my eyes and said "DO YOU REALLY THINK WE ARE GOING TO LEAVE THAT EASILY"?!!? From this point forward I felt like I stepped into a dream realm, nothing felt real. Almost an out of body experience. I held my ground and kept repeating the name of Jesus and after a few minutes, whatever "it" was, it just left and was gone and I immediately felt it leave. My brother just sat there like he had just came back into his body. He didn't know where or he was or how he got there. It looked like he had just woke up from a deep sleep and was very confused. Whatever demonic spirit it was (I should have asked it's name) was very bold and felt like it had a right to be there. It was strong and would not leave easily, but it eventually did at the name of Jesus. 14 years later I always fall back on that moment to remind myself of the reality of the world we live in. They don't always manifest in such obvious ways. You can see their influence on society if you know what to look for, especially in recent years. Major wake up call for me. |

He went on to become a police officer and did that for 4 years I think that did more harm to him than anything. He recently just went through a divorce. He's tough though he's very successful in business but he has a fractured personal life. I feel for him. He's doing okay though |

Yeah, I gotta say maybe being a cop isn't the best job for someone who's been possessed by a demon. Why do you think he was possessed that night? Had he had mental issues before then, that might have weakened his ability to ward them off? Has he had any other similar issues since then? |

Maybe some of that is woo woo scary stuff, but it's sure made an impression on me.

OP, I’d love to know which unit your brother was in and where at he was. I was there in 12’ and had some experiences too. There truly is evil in that place and I’m not talking about man. I felt like I came home with some sort of attachment after that deployment (which was my 3rd, and I’d never gotten that feeling after any other deployment) and that’s when stuff began to happen at home too. Nothing near as bad as your brother luckily. I truly hope your brother is doing well now and that the incident has made him turn closer to God. |

Several decades ago my wife and I had recently accepted Christ as Lord and Savior and one day I was at the kitchen table reading and my wife was at the kitchen sink preparing supper when all of a sudden I felt a cold ominous presence in the room and I looked up toward my wife and she turned and looked at me and I said "did you feel that" and she said yes. We immediately joined hands and prayed for the spirit to leave in the name of Jesus and it did. |

I used to be in the same camp as you, until 10 years ago, when my then wife became involved in the New Age spirituality movement and started dabbling in the occult. It did not end well and what I experienced changed my beliefs. More recently, a colleague took his life, and while I wasn’t present , his best friend was, and maintains he was possessed. He clearly has PTSD from what he saw. The demonic is real. |

| I'm not very religious at all, but I have also had very powerful spiritual experiences. There was a thread here recently similar to this one. I basically think that if you open yourself up to receiving spiritual things, then you receive them and they can be powerful. I basically had to shut it down because it became too overwhelming. I stopped asking. |

The very first step in an exorcism is to rule out ALL possible medical or psychological causes. I’m pretty sure all exorcisms involve doctors and psychologists. Most big diocese will have an exorcist, but you’ll never know who it is unless it’s decided you need one. FWIW, in the US the number of trained exorcists has increased significantly over the last couple decades.

| The battle against evil is real and occurring every day. Satan has convinced many in the world that he is not real, and they carry on with degradation of The Lord Jesus Christ and their work to destroy the Church. The proof of this is in several of the above posts. What we see now is the acceptance of evil in this country and march towards the end times. Christ died on the Cross to save all of us from evil and death. Until he returns we fight against evil every day. |

I believe you are only partially correct. There's nothing a priest can do that a believer with a knowledge of the Bible AND who has been sent by God cannot. Note carefully the "sent by God" part. If you as a Christian HAVE in fact been sent by God you have nothing to fear, all the powers of hell can not and will not prevail against you--but a lot of lay people (read: immature Christians) in Deliverance ministry have NOT been sent by God, they are working out of their own vanity and ego. Authority is a very real thing. Parents have authority over their children, husbands over wives, pastors over their flock--this has been ordained by God, and authority comes with it. A duly appointed Roman Catholic exorcist does his work under orders and by the explicit Authority vested in him/granted formally to him by the Bishop of his diocese, and that Authority is ONLY valid within the geographical confines of that diocese. To perform an exorcism elsewhere, that priest must seek the formal assent of the local Bishop. OP had authority over his brother's spiritual well-being because he loves him, and they are blood. I'll also guess that he is the elder of the two, and has always had and/or sensed a heavenly-ordained position of spiritual life/example over and in his brother's life. My personal belief/experience has led me to believe that if God has NOT sent you into a given situation, if it is your vanity or your ego or your sense of spiritual hubris, if you stray outside of your authority you can and will be utterly crushed. God has a plan, and scandalous as it sounds satan has rights and authorities, never forget that, and if you try to impose YOUR naive human will into a situation outside of your sphere of authority you would be better off trying to effect a one-man's citizen's arrest of a drug lord. You can pray for anybody--intercessory prayer is a beautiful gift--but ask that GOD's will be done, that GOD by his power and Authority glorify HIS Name, and provide a miracle to gladden the hearts of his People. Good on you, OP. Keep praying for your brother--and stand in proxy for him whenever you can for healing prayer. Always ask him for his formal assent--will you allow ME to stand in proxy for you--essentially he has conveyed to you (and your faith) a spiritual Power of Attorney. He has given you that authority--to seek healing on his behalf. This is a very powerful spiritual tool. It works like gangbusters. |
