[ARCHIVED THREAD] - The Strange Origin of the Ouija Board (Page 5 of 10)

Quoted: When I was a kid I played at war. I mimicked things I had seen in films and on television. That form of "play" prepared me in some ways for actual war. In the 90's an entire generation grew up "playing" at sorcery and casting spells, and it came at them in games and cartoons. Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Demon possession is no joke OP. You are a weak little human and no match for a fallen angel, if you create a vulnerability they can exploit (which is what sorcery involves, going into a trance or creating symbols meant to attract demons to the physical world). Someone at my church has a family member who works in the local mental health institute and has seen them have superhuman strength, speak random languages, do strange sexually perverted things, etc. One interesting story he has was a 10 year old kid who had been taken out of the house for getting violent with kitchen knives, she had been writing things on her sheets with smeared feces blaspheming the Holy Spirit, the parents weren't a believer before that but now have since thrown away Ouija boards pokemons, etc out of their house.. Now we’re getting somewhere.....Pokémon too? When I was a kid I played at war. I mimicked things I had seen in films and on television. That form of "play" prepared me in some ways for actual war. In the 90's an entire generation grew up "playing" at sorcery and casting spells, and it came at them in games and cartoons. I see, and how exactly are you “casting spells” and playing sorcery? |

Were they Cursed by playing with the Occult? ![]() Plausible.

Quoted: What I find interesting isn’t so much the ones who believe in one and not the other, but the sheer number of people who’s egos make them think they are spiritually great enough that such things would take interest in them. Quoted: Quoted: I wonder how many of the people who laugh at the thought of ghost and evil spirits and such are the ones that will pray to god and swear he is real. What I find interesting isn’t so much the ones who believe in one and not the other, but the sheer number of people who’s egos make them think they are spiritually great enough that such things would take interest in them. Does your intellectual model of the spiritual universe presume malevolence or rather simple indifference on the part of these disembodied entities? My intellectual model of the universe presupposes that there is warfare between the God of Creation and the fallen angels--satan is actively seeking the destruction of souls and to inflict misery, and the fallen angels will afflict humanity in gleeful opportunistic fashion, whenever they can manage to compromise the mantle of Grace protecting believers from their malevolence. |

Quoted: Why’s it only a sin if you are a Christian? Quoted: Quoted: The usual thread, with the usual cast of characters saying all the usual things (both condescending and credulous) that they've all said a dozen times before in a dozen similar threads--so I will say the one useful thing which I always try to say for the benefit of first-time lurkers: IF you are a believing Christian, you need to know that casually experimenting with the occult (even out of boredom, or in perfect/misguided unbelief), ANY conscious decision to engage in the occult arts of Divination or Necromancy is a grievous sin and an affront to God, and you should make a confession of that sin, ask God to forgive you, and formally renounce the practice. That palm reader that your wife brought you to? Yeah--that's a sin. Formally repent and atone for that--and renounce the practice. As for the braying skeptics who ridicule the notion of religion and the existence "some sky God", and who boastfully proclaim that they have used a Ouija board and "nothing happened"--are you sure? How (exactly) would you know that "nothing happened"? Because you aren't aware of it? What if the death of your soul, the ironclad Unbelief with which you became so pridefully indwelt--what if your overarching sense that the notion that a God existing is ludicrous--found its exact headwater in that exact moment of spiritual error? Why’s it only a sin if you are a Christian? It isn't. I only bother to take the time to admonish those who might be willing to consider the admonition. |

It’s quite simple really, the amount of sheer energy it would take for something of that nature to affect a human, whether physically or consciously, would not be worth the time spent. You and myself to some extent, are nothing but the proverbial equivalent of a cell on the ass cheek of Divinity.......I know it crushes a lot of egos, but anything of that nature would only be seeking the more spiritual amongst us because then to them the “juice would be worth the squeeze”. |

Quoted: I see, and how exactly are you “casting spells” and playing sorcery? I'm not. This was simply a thing which I observed in that generation. The flouring of New Age ideas and the growing popularity of Wiccanism followed in its wake. When I was growing up only "idiots" believed in witchcraft. I held that belief myself--until I managed to somehow piss off a coven of witches. |

The level of delirium in some of you will never cease to astound me. Those of you that know the truth that Ouija Boards channel evil only know half the truth. The real truth is evil is all around you, trying to possess you. But these spirits can only enter through your nose or mouth. So be sure to seal your nose and mouth. Do this now. The evil spirits have a short attention span, so you should only need to keep them sealed for 5-10 minutes. Go! |

OK. That has not been my experience. Consider inviting an Exorcist out to dinner or lunch some time. The entities they deal with absolutely believe that inflicting terror and suffering upon individual humans is definitely worth the squeeze. ETA: As I consider your post, something occurs to me. Your model is apt regarding the elite powers in the hierarchy of the demonic realm. The demonic realm, like the heavenly realm, is hierarchical. The spirits mugging average Christians in the day-to-day are garden-variety street thugs, and nickel and dime drug dealers--your perspective seems to be more apt when looking at what has been described as Powers and Principalities, Thrones and Dominions--the Pablo Escobars and the Stalin's of the demonic realm. |

That’s not entirely true.....The emergence of Wicca occurred in 1951 with the repeal of the Witchcraft laws in England......Pokémon was first released in 1996. Wicca was popular and a thing for quite a while before Pokémon. There are Covens in your own state that were established in the 70’s that still exist today. |

Quoted: Some folks believe it's the willingness/openness to allow those things to come to a person. The act of using ouija is seen as an invitation to spirits/demons. At least that's what I was taught in a very religious household. A serious question for those who say they're demonic. What if they made one called the prayer or angel board and had it blessed by a priest or minister and used it as a device for Christian prayer? Still bad? I think they're humbug myself. It's a plastic and particle board made by a 5 year old in a Chinese factory. |

The one time I ever played with one I peeked and everyone else had their eyes closed. I definitely wasn’t controlling it, just letting it pull my fingers along. Cant say about anyone else. Got some yes/no answers and some gibberish mixed with words. Someone asked the name and all we got was the letters EJ. I had an aunt die just a couple years earlier in a car wreck at the age of 20. Her name was Esther Jean. My other aunt her sister was one of the other people there that night. We were at my grandparents house, a large two story cabin style in the woods. It was summer, no a/c so we had windows opened. Dead calm night but just seconds after my aunt was like EJ? Esther? A strong wind blew through the house and slammed the bedroom door hard. Needless to say we were done after that. So anyways, I’m sure it is just the ideowhatever but that one time was good for me for life. |

I love when people who believe in science make fun of religion and the supernatural. Science can’t even explain how our universe works because their theories don’t play well with each other but they “know everything”. It’s like a kindergartner who learns addition and thinks he’s a fucking mathematician. I say this as an agnostic, but least I’m smart enough to know I don’t know shit about what is really out there. And I wouldn’t be so quick to make fun of anyone’s beliefs or theories. |

Could the same be said when grasping a worn cross/crucifix and asking God for help in times of uncertainty, relying on the pendant as a security blanket? Don't mean to sound cynical. Thanks for the reply without calling me a dipstick. |

Quoted: Tell me more. Quoted: Quoted: As an apprentice necromancer I can tell you with good authority that they are just toys. They're missing more than one requirement to speak to the dead. Tell me more. I'll try to keep it quick without getting into too much jargon or deep dives Well for starters the spirits of the dead aren't just sitting around waiting to do your bidding. You need something to get them to pay attention and you need a medium of exchange. That medium is and has always been blood. No blood, no interest. It could be human or animal. I use my own a lot because it's convenient or whoever I'm doing the consult for. Carrying around chickens or mice is a pain in the ass and cruel Lots of people have died. Billions of them, not all of them can read or write, not all of them speak English and not all of them care. You need to reach out like tuning an antenna. To do this you need a conductor, which is almost always water. Doesn't have to be distilled or deionized or anything just clean and you need an attenuator which amplifies your signal. It just has to be something pure or close to it. Historically gold and silver were used due to being easy to refine into a high purity and resistance to oxidation. For a while in the 1800s people were experimenting with mercury but ended up poisoning themselves. Nowadays copper is common, graphite had a little heyday for a while as did diamond which spawned the whole spiritual crystals thing but they won't work as they are often Silicon oxides and have other elements giving them colors. The rest gets really techy and kinda boring. So that was the short answer |

| To say it's just a game is....simplistic at best. Personal experience? I've been a sundancer, several years in a row, and been there to see many more. If you aren't familiar google "lakota sundance". I'll say this. We live in an EXTREMELY small part of what constitutes existence. I've been there, and seen. Whether its spirits, demons, whatever you want to call it, if you invite that kind of thing into your life without 1. Knowing what you're doing and asking for, or 2. Just fucking around, you are giving an open invitation to EVERYTHING. And they dont all like us. |

My intellectual model of the universe presupposes that there is warfare between the God and the fallen angels--satan is actively seeking the destruction of souls and to inflict misery, and the fallen angels will afflict humanity in gleeful opportunistic fashion, whenever they can manage to compromise the mantle of Grace protecting believers from their malevolence. OK. That has not been my experience. Consider inviting an Exorcist out to dinner or lunch some time. The entities they deal with absolutely believe that inflicting terror and suffering upon individual humans is definitely worth the squeeze. I’m quite familiar with Exorcism, well enough to know it’s not solely a Christian practice or that it’s only vested in the Church to perform. I also know that other traditions practice exorcism. There are accounts of Jews (who were not followers of Jesus) performing exorcisms in His name. What is your understanding of the power/authority inherent in Name--in particular the name of Jesus Christ. Have you ever experimented with that? Jehova Eloah Ve Daath And Yeheshua And what was your experience of that? Depends on what you’re asking. In relation to the subject of this thread, the other 9 Sephiroth, or in relation to it standing on its own merits? I don't know. Maybe I don't know what I am asking. The curiosity underpinning the question was essentially: Did it work? Were you technically successful in your original intent--or am I viewing the issue too simplistically? The simple answer is yes. It worked, just as did the process of doing the same with the other 9 Sephiroth. Each has its own unique experience and things to learn from said experience. In relation to the subject of this thread, said procedure does not require the use of such things, albeit I’m positive there have been those who have tried it. What their results were I couldn’t say as I’ve not spoken to any that have done so personally. On its own merit, again the answer would be yes. |

Quoted: A serious question for those who say they're demonic. What if they made one called the prayer or angel board and had it blessed by a priest or minister and used it as a device for Christian prayer? Still bad? I think they're humbug myself. It's a plastic and particle board made by a 5 year old in a Chinese factory. Quoted: Quoted: Some folks believe it's the willingness/openness to allow those things to come to a person. The act of using ouija is seen as an invitation to spirits/demons. At least that's what I was taught in a very religious household. A serious question for those who say they're demonic. It's a plastic and particle board made by a 5 year old in a Chinese factory. I'd still not use one personally. Call it dumb or crazy or what have you, but I've had enough bad shit happen to me to not tempt fate. I can't speak for every Christian obviously, but the catholics have the pope that's kinda like what you proposed and look at how much of an anti Christian commie the current one is ![]() |

It's a plastic and particle board made by a 5 year old in a Chinese factory. I'm not aware of any adult who thinks the material board itself is anything more special than writing letters and words on paper and using a shot glass. It's not the material properties of the Hasbro product that's the problem, exactly. Believers are more concerned about how the practice of using a board like that orients your mindset and spiritual intentions to let things in. From a Christian perspective, using your proposed "angel board" may or may not restrict those intentions enough to filter out any old demon. Most demons are understood to be disembodied nephilim (children of an angel and a female human who were considered metaphorical or maybe literal "giants") rather than full-blown fallen angels, but banking on the specificity of your intentions could be overconfidence. Either way, anything you successfully contacted would probably be more clever than the smartest human alive. IQ only goes so high in human brains, but... In any case, it doesn't seem like it could legitimately benefit actual prayer. Divination (maybe doesn't apply) and consulting with "familiar spirits" (does apply) are still explicitly forbidden by Deuteronomy 18:10-11, and 1 Timothy 5:5 says humans have only one mediator between them and God, who is Jesus Christ. (What about a "Jesus board?" Who knows, but I'm betting it falls under some passage somewhere...) Catholic magisterial doctrine skirts around this by adding Mary as "mediatrix" among other things, and they tend to be a lot more permissive about idols, graven images, and other such forbidden prayer aids, so they may be more amenable to trying to contact "good angels" through your board. I, uh...think I'll pass. Skepticism extends beyond "skepticism of any particular paranormal phenomena" to "skepticism that our knowledge/understanding is complete," and caution on spiritual matters seems wise. |

Quoted: Could the same be said when grasping a worn cross/crucifix and asking God for help in times of uncertainty, relying on the pendant as a security blanket? Don't mean to sound cynical. Thanks for the reply without calling me a dipstick. Quoted: Quoted: The idolatry/sin is in the reliance on the physical/man-made device itself. The device made by human hands. A Christian should just pray to God, and ask Him for intercession. Could the same be said when grasping a worn cross/crucifix and asking God for help in times of uncertainty, relying on the pendant as a security blanket? Don't mean to sound cynical. Thanks for the reply without calling me a dipstick. No you're exactly right--many Christians DO become fixated on the outward representation of spiritual faith--statues, rosary beads, medallions as occult talismans with magical powers. I even see believing Christians who get involved in Deliverance ministry who get led astray into practicing a strange kind of "Christian Magic"--involving formulaic incantation, instead of just trusting that it is God who does the healing and God who sets sinners free from their spiritual bondage. It is strange and disappointing. That being said--so long as the rosary bead or blessed medallion or icon is held in its proper regard, they can help a believer in moments of despair. |

The “Angel Boards” he’s asking about do exist.......There known as the Enochian Tablets. There not as simple to use as the Ouija Board however. |

Quoted: I'll try to keep it quick without getting into too much jargon or deep dives Well for starters the spirits of the dead aren't just sitting around waiting to do your bidding. So that was the short answer We... we got a live one? |

I don’t usually subscribe to wild theories about such things, but sometimes you see shit that you can’t explain. My friends and I played around with one of these boards when I was in my teens, and it spelled out some pretty crazy shit, so we took the thing out and threw it on a fire. Whatever they make these things with cannot be very wholesome, because it brewed up with some really ugly blue and greenish black fumes when it caught fire. Didn’t expect that at all. We were all looking at each other like, “what the fuck is with this thing?” Haven’t touched one since. |

Demons are usually 87% PVC by volume (not weight, spirits have no mass). |

Quoted: I like to play a little mini game/ side quest with these threads. Google search MDK89 [x files type search term] For example "MDK89 ouija board" or "MDK89 pokemon" You will get the most insane copy pasta conspiracy theory ramblings ever. You can thank partypooper-prof for banning mdk89 and making this forum way less interesting. |
