Update 01/26/23: The five former Memphis Police Department officers tied to the death of 29-year-old Nichols were booked at the Shelby County Jail and indicted in Nichols’ death. Former officers Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Justin Smith, Emmitt Martin III and Desmond Mills, Jr. are charged with one count of second-degree murder, aggravated assault-acting in concert, aggravated kidnapping, two counts of official misconduct and one count of official oppression, court records show. Crump said during Monday's press conference that the race of the officers involved is not as significant as the race of the victim. "It is not the race of the police officer that is the determinable factor of the amount of excessive force that is being exerted. It is the race of the citizen," the civil rights attorney said. "We have to have accountability no matter who tramples on the Constitution of rights for our citizens." That mentality should have been addressed decades ago. The people of Memphis should be told if they want to protest, go ahead as it’s their right, but when fires and looting start heads will get broken. This happens a couple of times in a couple of cities, rioting and looting will stop. |

I have never been around any major violence like this in the places I have lived other than the race riots in Baton Rouge in 1972 where some officers were shot and a local newsman was beaten so bad he live the rest of his live in a vegatative state. But as noted by @AlabamaFan64 as soon as violence starts and head cracking ensues, a lot of this shit will go away real quick. The six pieces of shit they arrested in Atlanta last night need to have their shit pushed in for sure, all white trash. They need to do a deep dive and follow the many these assholes are living on....will go right to Soros |

So where's the body camera footage? I've looked and can't find it. All I see is a bunch of news sites saying it's appalling, and disgusting, and whatever. But nowhere is there footage of what went down. And all the news sites I've read have all said pretty much the same thing: Nichols fled on foot after the initial contact and confrontation. Another confrontation took place, and he told officers that he was having shortness of breath. They called for an ambulance and he was taken to the hospital. He died 3 days later. I just don't see how that's appalling, disgusting, and whatever else they called it. Yeah, I'm sure there are some things being left out. But why won't they release the footage? If it's that bad, then it needs to be shown. Those 5 officers were all investigated and fired. And they'll all likely face charges (according to the news reports I've read). And I can't imagine how bad this would be if those officers were all white instead of black. Memphis might be burned to the ground if they were. There's likely be another LA riots, a la 1992, happening. Coincidentally, I just watched a video about it from the perspective of a guy who lived there at the time and what he saw. He went to most of the major locations that were shown on the news back then and talked about everything that happened at those places. |
