The kids kept asking if I was serious... Yes I am. I'll probably order the form tomorrow, just to make sure I have no choice.

Another idea is a reproduction bald eagle made from dyed and airbrushed poultry feathers-but they're made basically one feather at a time, better start now! What better way to troll busybodies though?

Looks so real if he hadn't told me it was a reproduction I'd swear someone shot one. These four students left my classroom last night at 8:15pm. You will recognize all of them as being left cargo bay door signers of the shuttle. There was an all-district art show at our H.S. last night, and these kids used that opportunity to continue working.
After 3 weeks of carving on the form to fit our lion skin, the student on the far right started sewing and sculpting the face at 7:15 am yesterday. It looks like a drowned rat, but after blowing it out later today, it should look more like a mountain lion.

Update 4/26
Without our stop button installed, students had to negotiate with other teachers to be able to work on the cargobay door seam when the doors were closed.
They managed to get it all done before the all-district art show last night. Hopefully the article in the paper will be out tomorrow.

Well that sucks.
I got an email from the Dept of Ed WY. They can't accept my application for teacher of the year 2018 with photographs included in the application. I had several people read over the application rules and it only said external links could not be included. We all figured pictures would be ok. My district office is going to resubmit the application with out pictures, as was requested in the email, but i think my chances just took a significant dump.
I called to talk to the person in charge, as she included a number if I had questions, but I didn't get a call back yet. Seems kind of silly pictures wouldn't be allowed to show evidence, as was requested in the application.

Guns you are in deeper than the usual office politics. Like the guy who starts working the best he can
and the union goons warn him about making them look bad. You and your class are making the slackers look bad. There may be one or two that your stuff motivates, but the rest see it as a threat to their own comfortable existence in academia. |

It's just some antiquated process, and requirement.
I'm still going to get to resubmit my application. It probably already has been. The district office was getting on it this afternoon, but even she was surprised and dissapointed we couldn't include pictures. It just won't look near as good without that evidence.
It's seems pretty easy to make someone look good on paper. I'd of thought being able to provide real evidence of success would be something the state would want, as whoever they pick will be going on to represent them on the national level. |

Little update .
My team leaders set up an informational booth on our shuttle last night at the college for an elementary school science thing. They had our fold out display as well as a Power Point presentation. The only other team from the high school was the robotics team and one of their robots.
What's slightly amusing about this, is my team leaders would describe themselves as the least "science" students of their class.
They said the kids were very interested and asked many questions. Just so you don't think we've neglected it, the mini shuttle display is getting very close to finished. After this photo, most of the graphics were completed. We had one hiccup. While I was gone last week, someone lost the most cap.  It was everyone else's fault.
Yesterday we made a new one out of epoxy putty. Hopefully, next week we can get it mounted to the 747 and get it hung in the main display. It might happen if i get my students more than a single day of the week. Always crazy schedules this time of year.

We seemed to have missed at least one order, so if anyone else asked for patches , please IM me and I'll make sure they go out today. I'm sorry that we messed that up. My guess is with two going through the orders, they got confused as to who had already been filled.

Side note:
My students are skinning a two-headed lamb that was born this spring. We've been waiting to get some time to try to do this for the science teacher. If it all works out, we are going to use modified jackrabbit shoulder forms and mount it up to be displayed. I'm not posting pictures at this time. It's kind of gross. |
