[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Slovak SBRs anybody? Grand Power STRIBOG pistol to be imported to US UPDATE 18APR19 (Page 11 of 23)
|
Need: A3 version, stock that is modern and complements the gun (not some hideous adapted abomination; CZ factory Scorpion stock looks “right”) and toned down (smaller, subtle, not bizzare font lettering on the gun - nobody in USA knows what Stribog is, so why the huge ugly lettering on the side? lettering on both sides of the receiver needs big improvement). If you cannot figure it out, send it to some Italian gun designer, like Beretta uses for some of their futuristic designs.
Finally, if the trigger is mushy as reported here, there should be some factory or third party upgrade path. I own couple of Grand Power pistols, K100 (9 mm) and recently bought a K22 (.22LR). So far put 700 rounds of CCI MiniMags through the .22, without cleaning and with only one stove pipe. Amazing trigger, similar to my CZ Kadet and accurate fixed barrel, very impressive! Love it. Friend of mine who shot it at the range wants to buy one too. |

Picked up my Stribog the other day. I'm very impressed with the overall design and execution. However, I do have a few minor points I'm not crazy about. First, while I love how robust the bolt hold open is (very reminiscent of their pistols) I'm not impressed with the little spring leg that extends from the upper to keep downward pressure on it. I feel like at some point in the future when I'm disassembling it for cleaning I'm going to catch it on something and kink/break it. Second, the peep on my rear back-up sight was broken off out of the box. I applaud the effort to include them, but they seem relatively fragile. At least they are cheap and easy to replace. |

Looks like the A3 is not on its way...but a non-recip CH version is. From Eagle Imports:
“Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately there are no plans to bring in the A3, but we are working on getting the Stribog in with a non-reciprocating handle. It is currently being reviewed by the ATF, and we hope to see it this year.” Hopefully it snuck through the ATF when the government opened! I’ll be picking one of these up when they appear. |

Fantastic first post, and great news! |

Long time lurker. Thought I’d join in the fun! I’ve been meaning to pick up a PCC for a while now and after getting a chance to try some of the more popular ones side-by-side recently, the Stribog really blew me away. Only the MP5 build was softer shooting, and not by much. The Stribog was also the most accurate for most of the shooters. Really nice gun. Something that not a lot of people mention is in terms of size and caliber efficiency, this pistol really in a class of its own. It sits right in between a MPX Copperhead and Scorpion Micro as far as size and weight. But those guns are rocking 3.5” and 4” barrels, respectively, while the Stribog doubles that size with an 8”. With the right load, that extra 4”can give you a 10-15% increase in muzzle energy from roughly the same size gun, that also happens to be cheaper than either of those options. Time to start buying the accessories and mags while I wait for version 2.0. I’m defintily going to grab one of those Safety Harbor tailhooks. Folks who already own Stribogs - are you running any support hand accessories? I was just gripping the magwell on the bare bones gun I was shooting. Is something like an AFG or handstop a big improvement? |

Quoted: Hey Drunkie (Espanol); AFG works great. MRDS on top rail. Safety Harbor Pic rail adapter and SB Tactical side folding brace. Makes a very compelling package. The reciprocating charging handle doesn't bother me; I'm left eye dominant, so I shoot lefty. If it's a problem, or if you're wrong-handed (to me), switch the charging handle to the other side. I'm thinking when/if the non-reciprocating CH version gets imported, there might be a fire sale on the older (barely) version. If so, I'll grab another. 2 is 1 you know. EDITED: To say, WELCOME! I’ve got a sig Romeo 4 and Pro-tac set aside for it. Most people get these PCCs as fun plinkers, but if it proves to be reliable, I might use it for HD. Living in Chicago proper, our options are sadly limited... I’ve thought about potentially picking up a gen. 1 if the price drops dramatically, but I guess we’ll see. I’ve got no issue fundamentally with a reciprocating CH, but it’s a small gun, that really gets your hand close to that thing. It might end up being a non-issue. I remember when the Ruger LC9S came out, I thought it would ba a perfect time to pick up an LC9, as I never thought the trigger was that bad. Never found them for more than 50 bucks cheaper, so I just picked up the LC9S. |

I was really hoping for the A3. Any idea why it won’t be imported?
I believe a minor alteration to an existing firearm is a relatively quick process with the ATF, while a major change in function constitutes an entirely new item and takes significantly longer to pass approval and may also be more expensive. Perhaps changing the CH is considered a minor change, while significantly altering the action is considered major? So it may be just an effort by Eagle Imports to get a non-recip version to market quickly and cheaply. Furthermore, I know everyone drools over roller delayed blowbacks, but they really are a more important feature in a select fire gun. Having shot the Stribog and MP5 side-by-side, there really didn’t seem to be a huge difference in recoil. I Almost negligible. Full auto might have been a different story. My point is, even if they did release the A3, say for a couple hundred bucks more, I would probably just pick up the non-recip version for $700, assuming they cost the same as the original. The slight reduction in felt recoil isn’t significant enough for me to cost several hundred dollars more and add more complexity. Not in a semi-auto 9mm pistol that is already a soft shooter. |

Very well established competition. Other than that, its all advantage Stribog. Take the specs of the guns. Stribog is the same weight, an inch and a half shorter in length and height, and sports a slightly longer barrel. Its also $50-$75 bucks cheaper right now. Then there's mods. If you dig the corny plastic stock Scorpion handguard, cool, but if you want to go aluminum with m-lok, the HB ones start at $108, while the Stribog stock version is already Al with m-lok (I do wish they went with m-lok on the bottom like the HB one, but minor gripe). Throw in $15-$25 for an aftermarket safety, because that's pretty much a required upgrade. In the end of the day, you will have very similar pistols, but that Scorpion is going to run you an extra $200, will be larger, and, at least to me, will recoil harder. |

I just ordered mine today from Prepper. Super excited as I already have a Scorpion and am ready to really compare the two. For the money, it's definitely a true competitor for the scorpion, NOT the GHM9, even though B&T swears it is (lol at 1300, though I know the build quality is SUPERIOR). I got the brace adaptor and I'm going the SBA3 route. I was going to do the SHF rear 1913 plate with the new 1913 brace, but opted for that I know works well with my cheek weld. I also went with the new SB buffer tube folder (89 bucks at guns midwest) so I have the option to fold. Also ordered an AFG, Inforce WML, primary arms advance micro, and a little 9mm brake (yes I know they don't do a whole lot for 9mm but its better than the thread protector).
Also, I found 30 round mags at DK Firearms for 24 bucks. Grabbed 4 really quickly as I couldn't find them anywhere else, or even before when I was first considering this gun. I wanted to wait until mags were available before I bought it. For everyone complaining about the reciprocating charging handle, do you own an AK? Or maybe a Bren? I have both and you learn to manipulate it. I'll be moving my handle to the right side and will be operating it just as I would one of my AK's. It's not hard, you can go over or under to charge. People also forget the positives of a reciprocating handle. A reciprocating charging handle gives the user total control over the movement of the bolt and bolt carrier, and allows a lot of force to be used to chamber or extract stubborn or ruptured cartridges. It can also serve as a visual indicator of a malfunction or an empty magazine without needing to look at the ejection port. It's also efficient from a manufacturing and design standpoint. |

Do we know if we can put AR trigger springs in it yet? Can't find a video. If anyone has done one, let me know. https://grandpower.eagleimportsinc.com/grandpower/shop/parts/stribog/trigger-spring Better yet, with a slight modification not only can you use AR trigger springs, you can use an entire FCG (minus safety selector). After a few measurements, some initial fitting, and a little cutting on the lower, I was able to fit a Geissele SD3G into the Stribog. AR triggers & hammers are 0.050" narrower than the inside of the Stribog trigger box. A few 0.025" mini shim washers fixed this. Since I didn't want to dissect my factory Stribog trigger pack, I invested $10 in spare parts from Grand Power and began tinkering:
Front of the trigger face was interfering slightly with the front of the trigger hole in the lower. I removed about 0.200" of material to "lengthen" the hole. I used a mill but this could easily be done with a file, dremel, etc. Red circle shows modified area:
All put together:
So full disclosure - busy schedule has prevented me from doing a proper test of this. But I did the next best thing - function checked it repeatedly; trigger would always drop & reset. Loaded up some empty brass cases with live primers; they all went bang. Then I couldn't help myself...I loaded 5 rounds, screwed on my suppressor, then shot into my trusty sand bucket in the garage. All worked perfectly. (just don't tell my wife) I'm hoping to make it out shooting soon and put it through a real test but I have no doubt it will work fine. Even though the factory trigger is plenty nice, I always like options and happy with how this turned out. |

@sagmill
What do you think, Bill? Quoted: Short answer, yes. Best I can tell, earlier guns used a small compression spring that sat under the front of the trigger. They've since switched to an AR style spring: https://grandpower.eagleimportsinc.com/grandpower/shop/parts/stribog/trigger-spring Better yet, with a slight modification not only can you use AR trigger springs, you can use an entire FCG (minus safety selector). It's good to see this thread progress. I'd have Jaro over to my house for dinner, any night of the week. |

He really is a great guy. Not everyone would drive 300km (186mi.) just to visit you in the hospital, when they're trying to run a company. His English is getting much better. Our first online communications were pretty hilarious trying to understand what the other one was saying, but when we actually got to meet in Slovakia, it was like we'd known each other for years. Now, it's been almost 20, if not over. Again, a good man, and one who doesn't take freedom for granted. |
ARFcom, of course. I've been the CZ Handguns mod for most of my time here on the new site (I've been here longer than the 2001 would indicateIn 2007, I took leave off from my security contracting job in Kosovo to go jump with International Airborne Operations in another part of Slovakia, but Jaro picked me up at the airport, showed me around, fed me, and gave me the "factory tour". The factory was one CNC station and one lathe at the time, with 3 other people. He's grown quite a bit since then. I broke my leg skydiving, and he drove most of the way across the country to see me in the military hospital. Other than having to have a piece of titanium driven inside my right tibia (took a power drill and a slide hammer. I was awake at the time), it was a great trip.

Kpel; any tips on a muzzle device for the Stribog? I'd like to try something, but am unsure on what is out there. I believe the barrel is threaded 1/2 x 28, correct? Thanks in advance. Hey; you might get a drink on me as well!
As for the drink, I'm in Riyadh, now, so no scooting over to Bahrain anymore. |

(although I haven't run into issues with mine)
