Our current dogs are all part GSD and get along just fine with our cats that aren't assholes. |

We got a purebred GSD from the in-laws for Christmas after theirs had puppies. My kids all under 5 love hum already. MY daughter is deeply attached. And I named him Kaiser, of course. I also had an older Siberia husky several years ago who was the best dog you could ever ask for. He lived to be about 12 when it was his time. Bump for a sweet old pup who just wants to give love and sniff butts in his last years. |

I have news. Update will be in OP. Good news and....frustrating news. This dog's actual owner has been found. I know some of the story, but not a lot. Of course we checked the dog for a chip, and called the number. Every effort was made to find the owner, but you will see why we couldn't. This is a service dog for a guy who was apparently in the military. He lives in NEW MEXICO. He went through what sounds like a bitter divorce, changed his number, and never updated the dog's chip. His ex-wife stole the dog from the dog sitter, and brought him across the country and dumped him. Hurt the dog to hurt the man. (I don't have enough ugly words for someone who would do this.) Finally a friend of the ex-wife told the guy what she did, and where the dog was. He is flying from New Mexico to Kentucky to get his dog. I apologize profusely to all who have helped push for a new home for this boy, and especially to @Amish_Bill who was looking at giving this dog a home with his mom (please apologize to your mom for us). We had no way to know and didn't want to leave this old boy alone in a shelter, but this is an unusual situation. I'm thrilled for the dog and his owner, and I thank you for your understanding. Y'all, update the chip info for your animals. |

Says a lot about this guy though, that he is buying a plane ticket last-minute (not cheap) and coming to get his dog. I think the dog even has paperwork, and maybe can fly in-cabin. I hope so. I mean, it is the lowest of the low to steal someone's dog and dump the dog. But it's the next level of low to steal a SERVICE dog. I just...can't even. I've run out of ugly things to think. But yes, I'm glad for both dog and man. |

@Kitties-with-Sigs Wow. I love a good story with a happy ending but this has exceeded the usual products of my fertile imagination. If possible, and to bring hope and continued inspiration to the myriad of people here that become emotionally invested in SFDR outcomes, please try to arrange a quick photo or two of the reunion then post them for all to see. The idea of her getting bitten by a random stray(just bad enough to need stitches), having animal control unable to find it, and her having to get rabies shots sounds appealing. Someone who would do this to a dog(and his owner) deserves to be hurt by a dog. Animal control being unable to find the stray means the stray gets to live on in the process. |

Duke We have asked, but it is up to the shelter since, of course once they found out whose dog this was, the switch to SFDR was redacted. I would love it, but don't have too much hope for it. Still, as some others said, the sad in that dog's heart was on his face and in his eyes. I'm just good knowing that will be gone. Like you though, I would love to see the doggy smile. |

I know they would have held the dog for a while, hopefully, to see if anyone called, and I"m sure they posted him locally as shelters do. That takes days. And it's at least two day drive from NM to the hills of Northern KY. (Uxb goes out there every year which is how I know). I'm guessing weeks at least, but that is pure guess. If I can get more information, I will pass it on to everyone. |

I'm just glad she bragged/told on herself and her friend had a conscience. I'm not sure how that person calls this perpetrator a friend, but I'm glad she was trusted enough to find out. I'm also glad the perp was too stupid to just shut up about it, and too weak to shoot the dog. That would be....indescribably awful. |

I have asked the shelter for pictures when dad picks him up , the owner moved to get away from his crazy ex and left the dog with someone he trusted till he could get situated and then come back for his dog! I have asked for the name of the woman and the shelter won’t give it to me , they say they don’t trust that I won’t …. Well maybe I shouldn’t put it in writing as Mark used to tell me …. I have mixed feelings but I am very thankful that the dog is loved and is going to have a great rest of his life with his person !!! |
