Perhaps my taste is off but I wasn't a fan. My favorite sipping rum is hard to get here but runs about $100 a bottle in the DR, it's Brugal Siglo de Oro.  Buttery and smooth.

I've had my fair share of Havana Club during my time in Cuba. It's OK but nothing special--unless you are enjoying it in Havana! |
When I lived in the Balkans Badel Rum from Croatia was my go to rum; very tasty, only $2.00 a bottle with a nutmeg flavor that was tasty plain and mixed well with Coke. When I lived in South America I drank Fortin Rum, made in Paraguay, very tasty, I never mixed it, preferring it plain. It was only $2.50 the last time I bought it in Asuncion, Paraguay; I died a little bit when I accidentally broke my last bottle of it.  I recently started drinking Bumbu Rum, I like it, I like it a lot. Bumbu Rum is not expensive at only $48.00 a bottle and most importantly it is available in the US unlike my two favorites Badel and Fortin.  |

Rum varies more than just about any spirit. I pretty much just use rum for tiki drinks and I easily have more rum than anything else. (Except for whiskey, cause that's my go to.) What is Rum? If you like your rum on the sweet side and price is no object? Zacapa XO. I've had a few glasses but didn't feel it was worth the extra $60+ over Zacapa 23. YMMV. If you prefer a less sugary experience, one of the aforementioned Foursquare bottles should be up your alley. |

| I got the beetus. Love El Dorado, but it's loaded with sugar. Most rums from Jamaica and Barbados don't have added sugar. One exception is Plantation Barbados Rum which is not really Barbados rum. It's aged in France and has sugar added. If you have to add flavors, spices or sugar it's probably not good rum to start with. Rum aged 8 to 12 years in the tropics in used whiskey or sherry barrels is what you seek. If you are a bourbon or scotch drinker try Mount Gay Extra Old for starters. |

GD doesn't always have the best taste, but uncle narphenal has your back. ETA: Solid suggestions in here, I'm impressed arf. There are always a couple of fliers, but GD tends to have pretty solid liquor recommendations. |

Most of foursquare offerings I've had float between 110 to 120(ish), with Sagacity being the sweetest i"ve had at 96. Virtually everything else on my shelf is 80 to 84. I hear plantation makes some nice ovenproof offerings, mean to try them. Damn, this threads going to cost me some money......
