Quoted: Guys: Again it's easy to bash. I'm actually glad I posted what I posted here. I greatly appreciate the comments. Be assured that my goals are the same as yours - that is to keep the firearms flowing to law abiding citizens. These personal attacks and the "I'll never buy your product" comments seem childish. I appreciate the comments that I don't like Romney because. What if anything could Romney do at this point to gain your trust? What questions would you like answered? I'll forward them to his staff. Please realize that I'm supporting Romney because I think he's the best candidate to protect our firearms who can actually win. Let's continue this thread with courteous comments. I'm not bashing your candidates. I'd like you to post what you're doing to get your candidate elected and what chance you think he has of winning not only the party nomination but the election in November. Thanks for your consideration in advance. Alex Here is what Romney could do to gain my trust: 1.Admit on National television that his support for assault weapons bans were ignorant and apologize for stripping the people of his state of thier second amendment rights. 2.Apologize on National television for ignoring the Constitution. 3.Vow on National television that his support for the 2nd amendment will never waiver again. 4.Sign a legally binding contract on National television stating that if he ever supports, signs, or allows; A. Any type of firearms ban to become law while he is in office that he will immediately step down as President. B. Any type of magazine capacity limit or caliber restriction to become law he will immediately step down as President. C. Any restriction on the amount of firearms or ammunition a person owns to become law, he will immediately step down as President. 5.Sign a legally binding contract on National television stating that if he ever supports, signs, or allows any Firearms or related equipment restrictions to become law, he will immediately step down as President. 6.Admit on National television that the 2nd amendment is not about hunting, but about the right of the people of this great nation to be free, and to defend themselves against a tyranical govt. and other aggresors. 7.Buy an EBR and several high cap magazines on National television and then hold up said firearm and proclaim; "From my cold dead hands". 8.Vow to sign a law prohibiting the states from enacting anti-2nd amendment legislation and remove already existing law which violates the second amendment and sign a legally binding contract on National television stating that if this is not accomplished within his first year in office he will immediately step down from office. I think I would at least consider trusting him if he did each of these things. Can you get this to his campaign Kolob? (I also posted this in the political forum, so yes, it is a dupe. I feel it should be in both threads however.) |

from the website (emphasis mine): 7:31 a.m. Jan 3, 2007 After posting the following statement in support of Mitt Romney below, on www.xcrforum.com, and www.ar15.com, I've received lots of input, mostly negative regarding Mitt Romney. Much of it could be regarded as hate mail. My email box is so full I can hardly get through it. Though not all of the comments are kindly written, I am very thankful for all who have taken their time to write and post. Our common goal, if I dare state it, is to get someone in the Whitehouse who will say no to gun bans (and fix the rest of our county's country). Before supporting Romney, I asked his staff for his position on firearms. I was given the statement which I have linked below in July.) Two of your comments have trouble me: 1) That he did sign a ban of "Assault Weapons" in Mass.; and 2) He stated he would sign anti-gun legislation if it came across his desk on "Meet the Press." I was not aware of this comment on "Meet the Press." I have forwarded your (and my) concerns to his staff by email. I have asked for a clear statement that he will not ban the assault weapons. I also spoke to one of his top staffers who is in Iowa today. He promises a quick response. I do still believe that in general Mitt Romney is the most qualified candidate for President. However, if he will not state unequivocally that he will protect and not ban our beloved assault rifles, I will not be able to continue to support him. I will post any reply I get here. I thank you all for your fervor in protecting the Second Amendment. Be assured that I stand by you in this effort. I sincerely hope for the sake of America that we can protect this vital of all liberties. Sincerely, Alex J. Robinson Manager Robinson Armament Co. |
Ouch!

I'm willing to give Alex the benefit of the doubt until I see the specific follow-up to this particular statement. If Romney is willing to make such a statement, it should be PUBLIC, imo, not some whispered promise to Alex Robinson from a staffer who is trying to convince him to write a check. (However, Bush Sr. has demonstrated that even public unequivocal statements don't necessarily provide any guarantees - as in "Read my lips. No new taxes" )

Hip hip...HOORAY! ![]() Well done, Alex!!! |

Guys: Thanks very much for your comments. I think that you're all right to be skeptical of Romney based on the issues your raise. I still think he's going to be the candidate that the Republican end up with. So, I've done the following. I've emailed one of his head campaign guys and linked this thread to the email. I followed the email up with a call to one of his head campaign guys. I'm asking for a statement that he will not ban assault weapons. If I cannot get satisfactory answers, I will have to withdraw my support and support someone else. I'm still very glad I posted and raised this issue. Why? Because it gives us a chance to get some firm commitments now should he indeed win. Be assured that my goal is the same as yours - Protect the Second Amendment and all firearms of every type. Sincerely, Alex J. Robinson Manager Robinson Armament Co. |

That's it in a nutshell............if they get the chance, they will go for the throat.........we dont need to give them that chance. And, you can get all the nicely written responses from Romney about how he wouldnt ban guns you want...........I still think he would do it in a heartbeat if given the chance.........
|
|
Nicely stated by Alex, but hopefully this whole thing isn't some sort of kabuki theater so that Romney can sell himself to moderates as "standing against extremist gun rights advocates and the NRA" and for "common sense gun control." For reference purposes, look at all the pity pieces that the MSM wrote about Zumbo. |
Late to the thread, but here it goes.......
|
Doesn't he know Romney signed a bill extending the AWB just for Massachusetts? |
I was surprised nobody got that pic up earlier too |
Unfortunately, even if Romney released a public statement that promises he would not attempt, sign or seek out any anti gun legislation, it wouldn't change what he has already done in the past. Actions speak MUCH louder than words, and his past actions most likely will be indicative of future ones. |
Remember, this thread isn't so much about Romney as it is Robarms. |
Once a gun grabber, alaways a gun grabber, i dont beleive for a minuet that Mitt wont bann semi-auto rifles and you shouldnt either Alex, at the very least you should have reserched your canidate before endorsing ANYONE. I am sure there is more to the story than anyone will ever know, and i will enjoy shooting my new Sig 556s today after a tripp to Sportsmans Wherehouse. |
Agreed, but I get the feeling Robarms postion will be that if Romney released a statement in support for the second, that they would still support him. |
Well he would be. I do not want Romney to change his stance because I know that he would be a liar and in doing so, would bamboozle some folks into thinking he is something that he is not. |

E-mailed response from Alex at Robinson Arms David: Thanks for the courteous reply. What you don't know is that we've been working with Mitt since early 2007. We're aware of his previous actions. We're also aware that he's since become an NRA member and has come up with a very clear cut statement on the Second Amendment. He's most likely to get the Republican nomination. I'd rather have him than any of the Democrats. He's vowed to take care of us. Who do you support and what have you done to make sure he gets elected? All comments are greatly appreciated. Alex |
|
Maybe he did.... |
Summed up my feelings with that statement right there. That's what's rubbed me so wrong from page one of this discussion. |
Your point might be valid if you watched movies from an anti-movie Hollywood or drank coffee from a business that actively supported causes and candidates to ban coffee. The rest of your post is just profane bluster that really serves no purpose beyond showing that you are incapable of adult discussion. 96Ag

My bad. I meant "Robinson", not "Romney". I would agree with you if it was Romney, although I'm still open to people recognizing prior errors and changing their ways. |
No problem, and I agree with you in theory |
Slavery was a core issue. Several southern states refused to sign on if the Constitution prohibited slavery. It would have been a deal-breaker. Additionally, the three fifths compromise was a very major issue, as it determined representation in Congress. |
So Alex wants us to support a cantidate that he already knew was a gun grabber? This is worse than when I didn't think he knew who Romney really was... |
Perhaps Romney has changed. It is possible, but it's also possible that Hillary Clinton has changed. I can only hope Mr. Alex is correct. eta: of course Romney has a better recent track record than Hillary, in that we can't argue. |
+1 This is really starting to emit a foul odor. |
I'm more disturbed by Robarms stance now then I was before. |
...which still doesn't make any sense, considering either rudy or romney both have longer, stronger, anti-gun voting records then the domecratic nominees. granted, the dems that are running are full of piss & vinegar when it comes to their *rhetoric*, but rudy and romney both have anti-gun legislation under their belts. i won't be voting for a dem come elections, but to say that rudy or romney are "better" for the second amendment is rediculous. shit, we hold up MA and NYC as shining example of what we *DON'T* want to become... |
|
So let me see if I understand this, then.... Robinson (who claims to have been working closely with Romney for the better part of a year and who also claims to have received assurances on the RKBA from Romney despite a spotty (at best) past) decides to come out in support for the guy. All hell breaks loose. During the hullabaloo, a tape of Romney on some news show pops up, to which Robinson admits not being aware of. He states he will contact Romney immediately and, if Romney does not openly support the RKBA and AW's, he will withdraw his prior support. In other words, Robinson supported a candidate based on the information he had (and which some of us didn't), and when presented with additional information he DIDN'T have, immediately moves to confirm it and to verify that his candidate does, in fact support Robinson's position, with the caveat that if the support isn't there, he'll withdraw the endorsement. Why is anyone pissed at this? Seems to me he's trying to do the right thing.
|
But Romney has not changed as evidenced by his comments two weeks ago on "Meet the Press". |
|
Why is everyone flaming a guy for making a decision? It is HIS company and HIS right to speak freely - just like the rest of us. Hell, I may not agree with his political choice - but I admire a guy who is willing to stand up for what he believes is right. This is no different than pulling a trigger. You can't bring the bullet back - so you simply deal with your actions and move forward. Live and let live. |
As a newcomer to this debate, it seems to me that he should have been sure of his position before he announced it. |
