Turns out my FSB is ever so slightly canted too....just enough for when you lay it upsidedown (on the sights) you can barely slip a sheet of thin notebook paper under it (the left ear) with some catching. Is that close enough to sight in or should I cut the bolt attaching it to my forend and attempt? to slightly adjust? |
Ok guys I'm having some stupid feed issues for anything beyond 7 rounds  the last 7 feed perfectly every time
Either the bolt doesn't pick up the rounds at all or I get this 
Or twice it shoved a round way up above the chamber... I did tighten my front takedown bolt down pretty tight so I could be ever so slightly torquing something (probably should have tried that) unless I did something wrong upper wise. Lower does work with those mags on a standard x39 upper Heading out to eat now so I'll loosen the front bolt and try again later |

Hell I put 250ish rounds between 2 uppers on that lower a few weeks ago without a hiccup. ~120 of those were 7.62x39 from those mags

Mags were pretty hard to seat too But, If the mag wants to seat tight, maybe it's just a mag problem. I had to jam a Pmag into mine that even marred the mag, but a 20rd USGI slides in like butter. |

Quick thought on the 'stock' to make it look more worn. Take the wood off and randomly wrap it in bailing or chicken wire, then hit the wood with a torch for a couple seconds to tiger stripe it.
That or Shou Sugi Ban, which is an awesome old school Japanese wood preservation trick. Basically torch the outside until it's where you like the color. Hit it with a wire brush to get off the loose/soft bits, then brush it repeatedly with oil while still hot ish. Any oil will do, but for DIY stuff, canola is pretty popular since there isn't any potential health hazards if it smokes off. Super durable and looks awesome if done well, BUT looks like it was a hunk of wood taken out of a house fire if you go full wood treatment on it. Personally, I'd string it up using baling wire and the holes for the bolts and just torch the sucker.

OK just got back and ran 80 rounds through my "good" mag (the one I've been messing with from day one) manually. It doesn't like to pick up the 20th round in the mag but feeds 19 fine (again weird because I hadn't had issues before but if I just load 19 it works fine so whatever). I had two of the FTFs like pictured above but I may have ever so slightly short stroked it
"good" mag is the only one that fits worth a damn so I'll need to mod the others Oh and it wasn't the pin, it was pretty loose. Could the upper's ability to wobble left and right in the rear be causing these issues? Its about 1.5-2 millimeters of travel either way in the rear |

You'll see the two washers back there I welded in and they take up nearly all the slop. You'll also see how I drilled my safety detent. 1/8 drill and I used a bolt catch spring and the standard safety detent. It's a touch sloppy, but it works. |
Well I refinished it today, 3 coats of blueing on the steel parts and 5 coats of aluma black on the upper. I may do more but that's all for now (that shit dries the hell out of your skin BTW )
And like I promised, your engraving doesn't look like total trash anymore @smokie

Attached File It admittedly isn't the best  but eventually I'm going to "clean" them up (the engravings) and fill them with something so they are easily readable.

Got to put about 100 rounds through it today, had 4 FTFs, 2 rounds tipped up into the top of the barrel extension and 2 times the bolt simply didn't pick the cartridge up. I'm going to go with ever so slightly undergassed for the letter two FTFs.
Didn't even bother with any other mags beyond my "good" one that fits best. Going to simply keep Dremeling on the other two until they want to simply insert correctly |

It may take a case of beer, But I'd bet you could get at least one of them 24 to bend properly to work as a mag release.
Or since you don't have a cage, drink 23 and then drill a hole in the 24'th and thread it on top of your existing button. 100% certain it'll take at least 23 beers though. |
