Ok I won't post the old meme of Bill O'Reilly and try to be constructive, instead of just complaining that this is the cartoon version of the site.
There's a huge discrepancy in the font size between index pages like subscriptions and active topics, and the text in threads. The best way to view threads on a computer seems to be to use the browser zoom and shrink it down to say 80%. That reduces the huge waste of space of the avatar blocks and makes the threads overall more readable. But the problem is, if you zoom to 80%, then other text on the site, and the index pages, is very small. Making thread text smaller doesn't fix the problem, we need other text to be larger, so that we can just shrink the size via zoom and make it somewhat bearable on a computer. Maybe it looks great on a tablet or iphone, I don't know I don't generally do websurfing on those. If that is what drove these changes, they should have just been put into a mobile site and left a more normal interface for computer users. Lacking readily accessible links for subscriptions, active topics etc is a major PITA. I used those all the time. I essentially never go to just a particular forum, so all those drop down menus are useless to me. |

It makes it a little tricky if you're trying to find a particular post in a certain thread. All that said - I do like the new layout. |

I changed to the olive color in forum preferences and it seems to be helping some...but still needs more control over all the spacing and font sizes...still really nauseous and dizzy but not quite as bad as it was...... |

I already have it on my agenda to add a smaller font option and we continue to alter spacing and fix display issues on a daily basis. So let's count those out. I am currently fixing the issue with EEManager... sorry about that. I should have it fixed in a few minutes. Also: [article=669] The font thing is huge for me. This is unusable unless I zoom to about 80%. I would really like to have the options for Active and Subscribed o the menu w/o having to pull them out of a drop down box. |

It takes too long to load.
The drop down menus and all the associated extra moves suck and seriously hamper mobile use. The colors in preferences are lacking and the highlighted thread colors are disturbingly odd and reminiscent of a 1970's board game. Scroll, scroll, scroll away to finally view some posts. They thread format sucks whether in vertical or horizontal format. The look is dreadfully flat. No more animated smileys. Well II could n't find them sp tedting that.  
The monochromatic feel and look of the icons in the forums and on the editors are slow to discern and add to the dull, flat look. Animated gifs are part of the character of this place. While I certainly appreciate your efforts here I think you went too far. The look and feel of the old thread was much better and the single click buttons for subscriptions and active topics and such were extremely efficient. I swear the only thing missing is a MIDI music intro as the site loads. Well, you asked. This does not feel like winning..

Looks kind of like a step backwards on iPad.
Drop down menus for Forums is just an extra step to get where you want to go. When I think about the layout of the old website, it seemed so futuristic and modern compared to this one. This one seems almost like a mid-2000s.forum. I'll report back when I get to work and am on a computer. Maybe that is better. |

Whoops, didn't see this thread until after I already put this in the other one, but I'll put it here too.
I looked at the quick help guide and I'm just not seeing any of that wrench or top banner stuff on my screen. I seem to be stuck on the mobile site maybe? Except that my url is just the normal ar15.com, and I have tried pressing the "view full site" button in the drop down menu in the corner but nothing changes. What am I doing wrong? Please bring back the individual buttons... And when posting, I automatically hit what I thought was the Submit Post button and it was Select File now. I had to scroll to get to the Submit button Keep it simple.

Positive:
1. You got ALL your ads showing on my ad-block browser. So there's that. 2. Looks very good on an iPad. 3. Looks OK. Negatives: 1. Sluggish. Overall needs some optimization to have the quick page to page, scrolling, and link to link 'quickness' of the old site. 2. Looks like shit on a large monitor. Way too much free space. "disconnect" between text side in messages and indexes, means we can't even realistically use broswer zoom to fix. 3. MANY MANY MANY things users did with "1 click" before have been turned in to 2 - 3 clicks or hover/click. These are fast navigation options that wound up nuked. Its like if you had a car and you and to go to a touch screen and "select" the "steering" function and THEN select "left or right" to turn. Instead of you, know, just turning. 4. Still too much animation and background applets, scripts, etc. going on, especially in ads, the battery impact is noticeably higher surfing the new site compared to the old. 5. The floating topper bar is nice, but it would be better if you reserved only the 50% on the right for ads, and included some of the '1-click' options instead of just the "wrench and screwdriver" hover item for those items. BTW, wrench and screwdriver conveys "settings" -- you should change that icon to folders, maybe something like this:

What I don't get is WHY you didn't retain our settings.
Everyone gets the ugliest fucking orange on earth scheme. I went in and adjust, not that big of a deal, I'm pretty savy with PC stuff. I feel bad for all the people who will log in in the morning and the site will look like hammered garbage right away. Seriously your beta testers must have sucked. You should have allowed a few days of an open beta to work out all the bugs you are fixing now, with willing participants, before fostering it on everyone. |
