I grew up in a town in SC, along the Conagree River in Columbia. Along the river after the Gervais St bridge, there is a set of old locks, called the Granby Locks. Along the trail we used as kids to get there, you passed an old cemetery, remains of obviously old houses, ect. The cemetery has Revolutionary War, Civil War and graves dating back to the family that founded the city. There is an old marker noting that General George Washington visited the Granby Family for their contributions to the war. Well, as time went by, the cemetery went unkempt, and grave stones had fallen over, ect. One summer, the city came through and cleaned the place up pretty good, weeded the place and mowed the grass around it. I even made charcoal markings out of some of the graves. Well, during that summer, we would go swimming and jump off the Locks into the Congaree and other swimming holes along the river....but the only way back was to either walk through brush, or to walk that old trail with that freshly cleaned, creepy graveyard. One night after fishing late alone, I walked home with tackle box and pole, and a old Jansport bookbag down that trail. It was only a little over a mile or so long from where I had been fishing and it basically ended 50 yards from my house and I'd done it hundreds of times before so I wasn't particularly worried about anything. Well, as I walked past the Locks and beside the graveyard, nervousness and panic just overtook my body and mind. I was paralyzed, I couldn't move, think, or even breath it seemed. All i could do was hear. I heard babies crying. Not just one, multiple babies. I don't know how long I was standing there; seconds, minutes, hours, I don't know. As soon as I snapped to I was standing underneath a doctor putting all these things on my head. My dad says this is what happened: He had a 1967 Chevette, and he was under the carport changing the oil. He heard me coming up through the woods like a bat out of hell and got up from under the car to see what the hell was wrong with me. He said I was white as a ghost, and couldn't put a proper sentence together to save my life. Said I was just mumbling garbage and wouldn't stop pacing around. He went and got my Mother and she insisted I must have fallen and got a concussion. Doc says no signs of a fall, trauma to the head ect. I go home 2 days later, good as new. Years later in college; I hear that during the slavery days, some kook who lived along the river, along that trail, would often discard unwanted slave babies into the outhouses where they would drown and die. When told of that, I relayed the story to my Prof. and he said I wasn't the first one that had told him about hearing crying babies along that part of the river. Haven't been back since. Now I believe the Cayce-West Columbia River Walk runs along beside this same cemetery. Creeps me out just typing this. Dude fuck you, that story gave made my eyes water from fright |

Quoted: Quoted: One night while bowhunting deer near Cheney Lake in Reno County Kansas...I started walking back to my truck just as the sun was going down....I walked across a open wheat field in between two tree rows. When I got to the other side were my truck was parked...now almost completly dark...I loaded up my bow and when I walked up to open my door I looked across the field one last time to see if I could see any deer. And there was still some orange behind the trees...just enough you could make out the outlines of the trees. I looke from left to right across the tree row...and at the very end.....something stepped out to the side of the last tree. IT WAS AS TALL AS THE FUCKING 75 FOOT COTTONWOOD TREE! I fucking hopped in my truck and hauled ass untill the govenor shut down the engine at 100mph. Scariest shit I have ever experienced in my life. And now that I have set here and wrote about it...I will be drinking Monster and finger fucking my 870 rest of the night.![]() I'll accept it as remotely plausible that some of the sasquatch legends may describe actual cryptozoological species. I do not believe that any 75 foot tall Ents could hide, even in Kansas, without being caught. Trees don't run fast, even sentient mobile trees. Actually, many years ago, one of the old timers from around here was telling me of something similar that he saw in the headlights of his car as he was driving somehere out by Canyon Lake, Arizona. Of course, he essentially saw only the legs. What the poster is talking about is called a "long walker" or something like that, I cannot recall. I've only heard one other story like it but I cannot recall where or when. Always reminds me of the end of the story "the Mist" by Stephen King. |

I live in Plymouth Mass, home of the Pilgrims. Dropped my daughter off at karate and had some time to kill. Drove through main street and took some back roads. The back roads are historical and I find them relaxing for some reason. This was a cool night was in Sept, the colorful foliage had barely started falling, it was picturesque. I drove down this one way side street, (probably the oldest part of town too) there were no other cars on it and no people were out and saw a man dressed in a Colonial outfit walking on the side of the road towards me. Hat and shoes and everything, perfect.
So I drive by him and think "That's pretty cool". His face had a blank expression as I passed him. I look back using my rear view mirror and I see him stop and slowly turn his body around to look at me. I'm still driving, going forward but very slowly, I had to look at the road in front of me but I quickly looked back and.....he was gone! I actually stopped and turned around in my seat I was so surprised. There was really no where for this guy to go. Remember, he was dressed in Colonial garb NOT a Pilgrim outfit. It was a month away from Halloween. I checked the paper that night for any possible event that would have a Revolutionary theme...nothing. Not even a Samual Adams brewery thingy..... It was very creepy! |

The Beast of Bray Road |
| About 13 years ago I was driving home from work 2 AM or so. It was raining/ spitting snow and sleet, just a miserable night. Seen this young guy walking beside the road "two lane rural area" dressed in a T-shirt and jeans. I stopped and offered him a ride. The guy was shivering and wet. Didn't talk much other than saying twice he just wanted to get home and rest. He gave me directions and I dropped him off in front of a ran down house a few miles out of my way home. I remember there were no other vehicles in the yard and a for sale sign in the yard. Didn't think much of it until later when my ex-wife and I were discussing it a few days later. I discribed the address and house to her and she recognized it as being a vacant house her cousin was looking into buying. The guy who had lived there had died a few years earlier in a wreck approx where I had picked him up. I drove by just out of curiousity on my next day off and sure enough it was the right house and there was no power hooked to it. |

I have a couple of tales to tell. A little back story. My family consists of dad, mom, my brother (older) and me. My brother got married and had a son which my dad just loved and spent a lot of time with whenever possible. My brother, his wife and son were headed to South Dakota for some reason (my nephew was only 1 or 2 IIRC). As they were driving up I-29 my brother looks in the mirror and sees Hunter waving out the back window. He looks in the side mirror and sees no cars next to them. So my brother looked in the rear view mirror at Hunter and asks, "Who are you waving at Hunter?" Hunter replies back, "Grandpa Tom." My brother then asks, whats he driving?" Hunter then says, "His black truck." Dad passed away in 99 when Hunter was 1 or 2 like I say. Kind of interesting. Tale 2: Brother and wife now have a little girl. A couple of years or so before daughter was born, a cousin of mine was killed in a car crash in South Dakota. Brothers family was in SD again and staying in the house of the family who had lost their son. My SIL heard my neice talking in one of the bedrooms so she went to see who Madison was talking to. She got to the door and saw Maddy talking but couldnt see anyone. SIL asks Maddy, "Maddy, who are you talking to?" Maddy replies, "Chris." Mind you, Chris died a year or two BEFORE Maddy was born but she was playing in his room. Tale 3: After my ex wife graduated from K-State we bought a house in Lincoln. This was the same year my dad passed away (99), I was dead asleep one night and I remember I was laying on my back when all of the sudden I was awaken by someone saying my name. I sat straight up in bed faster than Budweiser coming out the other end after a night of drinking with sweat rolling down my face. It was my dads voice that had woken me up. Dad visited the house one time before he passed away. I moved about 50 miles away from mom and dad so I didnt get to see him a whole lot. Thought I would share. |
Creepy Tight-Skinned CreatureBY JONNY C.I've never really been a believer in the paranormal and I always try to find a rational explanation for things that I have trouble working out, at least until last summer. Originally from New Jersey, I decided to take my wife and kids for a vacation. We went to visit my in-laws who have a cabin in the Canadian Rockies. For the first few days, we enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the country and went on a bunch of hikes and bike rides in the forest around the cabin, during which I didn't see anything out of the ordinary in what must have been a 20 mile radius around the home. The cabin is pretty old and runs on a separate generator near the tool shed in the back of the yard which my father-in-law says has always been temperamental and can create an eerie atmosphere when the lights flicker on and off, so I know better than to be spooked by shadows and bumps in the night. However, one night (around 10pm) we were sitting around about to go to bed when the lights completely gave out and the pitch blackness of the countryside meant that we could see literally nothing. Before I could grab the flashlight, I heard rustling outside the cabin and something brushed the side of the wall by the living room. I tried to put on a brave face for my kids and told them that it was probably a coyote and they should just go to their room although from the noises it made, it sounded bipedal and quite a bit bigger. Pretty creeped out, I grabbed my flashlight and headed out to the generator, shining the light on the ground to find my way. But out the corner of my eye I saw something which terrified me so much I don't know if I can even find the right words to describe it. I couldn't make it out exactly––all I could see was a creature in my peripheral vision. It looked human and about six feet tall with ghost white skin. I knew it was staring at me. At this point, I was mustering up the courage to look at it and when I shined the torch at it, I got a good look at the monster. It's so difficult to portray with words but it looked like a man whose skin was too tight for his body; you could see all of his organs bulging through his skin and the bones made it look almost like an insect, with the lower arm extending further up the arm and the shin bones doing the same. But what jolted me the most was the fact that it had no face whatsoever but still had indentations where the eyes should be. The bright light startled the creature and it hunched over as if about to run. This was all I could see in the brief glimpse I got before I dropped the flashlight in fright and by the time I picked it up it had darted into the forest. I ran to the back of the cabin and stayed there for what seemed like forever making sure it had gone before I went back to the generator. I didn't tell anyone when I went back inside what I had seen and I don't really know why; I suppose to protect the children and in case my wife didn't believe me. About a week afterwards I started having a recurring nightmare. Every night I would dream about that night and wake up in cold sweats until I finally confessed to my wife about it all and started seeing a therapist to help me with my sleeping. I came across this website looking for other people with similar experiences and I have trouble finding accounts which match what I saw. I'd love to hear any stories about any people who think they have seen what I saw or who have had any experience getting over and encounter with the paranormal. Source: Your True Tales 2010 |

Okay, this one is chock-full of WTF: The "Coyote" Encounter by Mike C. This first story is as told to me by my friend Alex. It took place in the White Mountains of Northern/Eastern Arizona in 1990. Alex was about four years older than I and hung out with different friends in school and hung out with me and others when in the neighborhood. He was soft-spoken; he didn't really talk much. When he did speak he only said what needed to be said. (A little history on Alex's lack of fibbing and story embellishment.) Alex and a few of his school buddies would go varmint hunting, game-scouting and camping in the White Mountains every summer; these mountains are probably the wildest regions remaining in the Arizona wilderness. After they graduated from high school, their time to hunt and scout quickly vanished with their new jobs, college, etc. They did however get together after a two-year absence, for "old-times" sake. Now many people in Arizona and surrounding areas have heard of the White Mountains, and a lot of the stories that go along with it. This excited the boys on every visit. Though other than getting themselves a little spooked out, they never encountered anything to speak of, other than some run-ins with a few local drunk campers. This only drove them to go to deeper parts of the mountains on their activities. On this particular occasion they decided to use a newly-purchased spotlight, instead of flashlights, to enable them to scout for game well into the night. They would drive up and down some of the dirt roads shining the spotlight into the woods. It was mid-fall; a time when you can catch rare glimpses at the remaining wolves and many coyotes hunting little animals in their early attempts to prepare for the oncoming winter in that region. This night as they drove, they only came across the yellowish reflection of the eyes of deer as they drove down a few secluded roads deep in the Ponderosa Pine forest. They also spotted a few raccoons and skunks. Coyotes were also in large numbers in a few spots that night. Now coyotes are considered "varmints" and can be killed any time of year - no permit necessary. As the night was coming to a close they tried a technique called "leading" (pointing the beam of light in front of the animal which causes it to chase it, eventually bringing it within a close shooting distance). They were successful in leading three of the coyotes for a short distance until two of them finally gave up. One remained though, and they continued to bring it closer to the road. The driver of the vehicle wanted to test the limits of the coyote's interest by building up speed. They were reaching upwards of 35 mph and the coyote was keeping up. Needless to say, the boys were amused at an animal running at that speed to catch a splotch of light. They noticed the coyote tiring, and knew the current road ended soon at a nearby abandoned mine camp, so they decided to shoot it before they thought they would lose it. Collapsing near the roadside, the coyote lay motionless. They backed the vehicle up in close proximity of the coyote to provide light, and the one who shot the animal (not Alex) jumped out of the 4x4 to inspect his kill. The back of the animal was facing the hunter as he approached. The group watched on as he then poked at it with his rifle to ensure its death. He curled his toe under the corpse and flipped it over to face him. The guy came unglued at what he saw, and immediately jumped back in the back of the truck. The group in the 4x4 had all seen it too. It was the body of a little Native American boy, about 8-9 yrs. old, with the skin of a coyote on his back, and tied to his wrists and ankles! It immediately bolted back into the cover of the forest as if it had never been shot at all. As they raced a way they insisted on hearing several yips, characteristic of groups of excited coyotes. They directly drove the 3-1/2 hour trip home. To this day, two of them will not even go camping and none of them will go to the White Mountains, even in the day. Source: About.Com Paranormal Story Archive [/div] Love the White Mountains. Been going there since I was a kid. Never been creeped out by anything up there but once while staying at the cabin we always use I had a dream about myself, my dad and his friend all trapped in a snowstorm in our truck trying to make our way back to the cabin. I can still remember that dream to this day and I was probably like 9-10 at the time. There's an old Butterfield Stage stop in southern Arizona that I go exploring and metal detecting around that isn't hard to get creeped out at when you're there by yourself. The place has quite a violent past and has seen a few Apache/calvary battles. The last time I was there I was poking around down in the wash near there metal detecting and I heard a few rocks roll down the canyon from high up. Theres lots of cattle around there so no big deal. As I made my way down to the main watering hole (thats now dried up) that used to be the main attraction of the place and that sits at the mouth of a canyon that leads back into the mountains where the Apache lived its very easy to guess that the place has been the scene of lots of ambushes and gunfights. I don't know what came over me but for a half a second I whirled around and looked down the path leading to the watering hole and almost imagined I saw an indian brave on horseback bearing down on me. It was just nerves tho, a place like that can do that to you but it did kind of shake me up for a second |

One night around 2200, my buddy and I were on a tower watching the perimeter in Kirkuk, Iraq. We were just bs'in trying to pass time when all of a sudden we hear this little boy on the fenceline but there wasn't anyone there. No buildings, no vegetation, basically no place to hide of where this voice came from (or around our tower for that matter). We used our NVG's and scanned the area numerous times. Nothin'. A few minutes later we can hear this kid again and it sounds like it wants our attention. Obviously, we don't speak arabic and don't know what he's sayin'. So we rescan our area. Nothing. Now my buddy and I are pretty freaked out. But it gets worst. We hear footsteps running toward us on the loose gravel at the base of our tower but don't see a dang thing! My buddy is armed with a M249, I have an M4, in addition to both of us havin' M9's and we're scarred sh*tless because we KNOW we're dealin' with something paranormal. All of a sudden, silence for about 5-10 minutes and my buddy and I don't say a word. Then we hear light and very clear footsteps at the base of our tower again. I then decide to slowly open the tower door and I definitely make sure that what ever I'm lookin' at, my M4 is also "looking" in that same direction. I climb down the exterior stairs and find nothing. As I lower my M4, I hear footsteps behind me and immediately turn around in the ready position. Nothing anywhere around us and now I'm starting to sweat. I walk back up into the tower and quietly sit there with my buddy. Silence for about 10 minutes and we start to calm down somewhat. We then hear this kid talk again at the base of our tower and immediately following him was a howl/growl of some sort on the fenceline! Definitely a WTF moment. So were like "F!@k this" and call a patrol to our location. They come by, we're sweatin' a lil, and we tell them the story. They too want to be believers and wait in silence with us until the end of our shift but nothing else happened.
I laugh about it to this day because it's my only "paranormal" story, I was heavily armed, but I couldn't do anything about it. My friend later joked that this ghost kid probably used us for protection and tried to get our attention of whatever that thing was that howled/growled at us. Nonetheless, I would never forget that night. |

Scariest thing that ever happened to me, was on a road trip. My friends and I were driving around looking for a place to set up camp for the night, and we stumbled on "Marl City" somewhere in Eastern Ohio. It was literally abandoned, an actual dead town. Near Rushsylvania Ohio, we found a very old cemetery (like graves from the late 1700's and stuff.) So my girlfriend at the time decides she wants to do some sketching on the stones, and next to the cemetery was a good field for camping for the night (there was literally nothing around it and it was in the middle of nowhere.) So we get to setting up camp as the sun was setting, and she started doing "rubbings" on paper of the tomb stones.
Well, the sun more or less set, and no sooner she comes screaming over that "a man" was in the cemetery. At the time I was carrying a GLOCK17, but as a stupid idiot did not have a flashlight. But the light from the camp fire was doing an ok job of making the path and cemetery at least navigable. I got up to the destroyed wooden fence that surrounded the small grave yard, and saw a pair of yellow eyes staring back at me. At first it scared the shit out of me, but then I realized it was likely an animal. I picked up a stone and threw it, but it didn't move. It looked like it was on top of a grave stone. So I walked towards it. I had to come at it from an angle (blading? :P) to keep the fire light on it so the eyes would disappear in my shadow. But as I got about 15 feet from it, I realized it was NOT an animal on a grave stone, it was something peering OVER the grave stone. And no sooner had I come up on it, it rose from it's position and the eyes then became my height then taller. I could make out a very thin silhouette, it reminded me of one of a stick puppet, and maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me but it looked damn near 7 foot tall. I completely forgot I had a gun in my hand, turned, screamed "FUCK" as loud as I could and ran back to camp and DOVE behind a cooler and watched the cemetery. Everyone was pretty freaked out, but they didn't want to leave. I ended up sleeping in the car (though I spent most of the night staring towards the grave yard from the back of the SUV.) I still occasionally have night mares about it. |

How many of these stories are supposed to be true? I've had some weird stuff happen before that closely resembles some of what I have heard here... I would share but it would be A weird and B nobody would believe me. Come on, that is what this thread is for! :) |

I've got one for you that's a true one- still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up...
This was around 10 years ago. I was working in a ceramics factory that was built on an old military base in Alabama. I was a quality supervisor for this company I won't name. I worked mostly at night by myself in this old building running tests. I was working one night and got that wierd feeling- you know that feeling when you know someone is looking at you. But the kind of feeling that you know something isn't good so the hairs on the back of your neck start to tingle. Well after a few minutes I just tried to dismiss it. Then out of the corner of my eye- I could see a human shape moving quickly towards me. I quickly turned my head and I could see nothing. This kind of startled me. Then I thought I was loosing my mind. I turned and started back to what I was doing- and damn, it happened again. This figure was moving right at me.I could see it. This time I was a bit scared so I stopped what I was doing and walked and checked my area out thoroughly and could find nothing. I went back to what I was doing with an uneasy errie feeling all night. I thought my mind was playing tricks on me until it happened another time at work. This time I saw it and for a longer period of time. Now when it happened a second time I knew it wasn't me. I grabbed up my bible and walked around the entire building praying because I knew something in here wasn't right and I had no idea what it was. After that it never happened again. I told no one of this or what had gone on- I thought they would think I was nuts and I was telling myself I must have been loosing my mind when this happened. I don't beleive in ghosts and still don't. One night I was in the maintenance dept. checking on our guys and shooting the breeze. They started talking about what they called a ghost- I just listened to the story thinking yeah right!!! until they got to the part about a dark shape that moves at you- and when you look at it - it's not there anymore. You can only see it out of the corner of your eye as it moves up to you. I said nothing and finished my shift. I went right home and told my wife what had happened to me over 2 nights. Made her feel weird too. Now guys I don't beleive in BS like ghosts or anything like that- but when I tell the story or when I'm typing this- the hairs come back on my neck and it makes me feel kind of errie just recalling it... Until now, I had only told my wife of this... What makes it bad is this is true and I still can't explain it. |

god damnit why am I reading this thread again at this ungodly hour. You guys ever have something happen that was really creepy.. but you feel that by talking about it that could bring whatever it was back or make it worse? ![]() Because threads like this are awesome! I love reading these stories, even if they creep you out like crazy. ............and yes, I do feel that talking about certain things can "bring it back". My sister has some crazy stories, and there's one specific one that whenever she tells, something weird ALWAYS happens during the story. IIRC, the last time she was telling it, a magnet and the paper is was holding literally flew off the fridge door. There was no breeze, no fan, no form of moving air or anything that could have whipped that magnet and paper off the fridge. Weird stuff. |

Quoted: I have a couple of tales to tell. I've heard similar stories from people I know and trust about kids being sensitive to things that we're not. Their mind is not as cluttered and they've not been told that so much is impossible. On the name thing. I've experienced this, more than once. I've done some research and it seems to be a common thing especially when close to sleep, either waking or going to. Most dismiss it as a psychological phenomena. The most intense time it happened to me, though, I was wide awake and paying attention to what I was doing. I was on the family "farm" (all woods, now, about 180 acres). I was by myself, camping out for the weekend. I was walking down the path, armed to the teeth, as usual. I heard some one in a loud whisper call my name. I could actually feel their breath on my neck and their presence behind me. It was real enough that I wheeled around with my FAL leveled and ready. Very freaky. |

What appeared to be two eyes, glowing greenish yellow and about 7 feet off the ground were approaching our campsight. They would bob up and down like a bipedal cadence. As they got closer to us (we were freaking out of course) what ever it was appeared to get taller, then shorter, then it would tilt its head one way and they other. As it was about to reach our camp, the eyes started getting farther and farther apart. It was two lightning bugs that had been flying in formation for some reason. |

The only thing is how still the "eyes" were on the grave stone, and that they seemed reflective like a raccoon's. Now my eyes might have been playing tricks on me with the silhouette, I've spent 10 years telling myself that |

It was 10 years or more ago, so my memory is hazy, especially since we were just driving with no actual destination. The only names I know are the city you're by, and I saw something on a map that said "Marl City" but there was nothing really there. |
I fucking hopped in my truck and hauled ass untill the govenor shut down the engine at 100mph. Scariest shit I have ever experienced in my life. And now that I have set here and wrote about it...I will be drinking Monster and finger fucking my 870 rest of the night.
