I'm pretty sure the majority of fighting rifles issued to American pros today have some kind of illuminated reticle. Most violent crime happens after dark. Low light training is hard to come by for us ordinary civilians. Take advantage of it if the opportunity arises. |
| I had a shooting instructor give a slightly different take on night sights. He didn't like them. Not because they don't work, but because they do work. You can hit things you haven't identified. If you have a light, like you should, and i.d. the target, then you don't need night sights. I had to admit it made some sense. Still, I have night sights on some pistols because once the target is located and identified, I can switch off the light and still make hits. |

OP gets his experience from video games and YouTube  I live in a rural area with no light pollution. When it is dark here, it's DARK. Everyone I know uses a headlamp on a nightly basis. I have sacked up God knows how many 'coons using night sights. They work great. I also appreciate them while traveling....wake up in a hotel room slightly disoriented....that glow on the nightstand is my pistol.... |

No one who actually goes out and shoots in the nighttime would ever suggest such nonsense! They help immensely. Normally the people who make these wild claims are either over-the-top red dot proponents or people who lack the will or the skill to change out their sights. |
