Looks like a pretty interesting design. It appears to use a number of standard AR components, like the trigger group, safety, and stock. Hopefully the barrel and barrel nut is the same also, so other handguards and barrels could easily be fitted.
The side charging handle is a nice feature for this type of carbine. The only item I think would be a good addition is if the recoil spring for the bolt was somehow contained above/below/or within the bolt. Of course this idea may not work, since the 9mm bolt seems to need a lot of mass to function, so I don't know where you'd fit the spring. But if it worked, then you would not need the buffer tube, and you could fit a folding stock to it. Nice, compact light carbine. I hope it proves reliable and is robustly made. I liked my 9mm camp carbine for a plinker (sold it long ago), but once you looked into the trigger group and action, you could see how complicated and relatively fragile the internals were. ETA: And if they make it also in some other calibers, like 40 or 10mm it would be even better. |

Is the upper lower profile than a traditional AR upper? Whats with the raised rail? If its using a regular AR free float handguard, it has to be the same height. The raised rail area is milled out since it does not have the channel in the receiver where the gas key would be. From what I've found with the 9mm, regular low cost fmj ammo gets a small increase in velocity with the longer barrel, 10-15 percent or so, but not much overall. Some of the plus p loads showed that the longer barrel helped them alot more, and put out some decent power for a pistol caliber carbine. The longer barrel does cut down on the blast a noticeable amount, so the gun seems "quieter". |

I've stripped them down and it's not too difficult. The new version has been upgraded with a better front sight, stock, forend, threaded barrel and they'll be adding some new models eventually that will take mags from the M&P and XD/M. The weight and portability of the Sub2K is a big plus. Until someone else copies it, it's the only choice. I've had 2 G17 versions and neither has malfunctioned with any ammo. Version 2 (technically 3)

It'll be a little more expensive, but it may be worth it to some. Allen wrench screws instead of philip screws that everyone has a tool for. Adjustable stock that is a plus, but I'm fine with my extension. The aluminum front sight with AR-15 post is the biggest plus. M-lock slots on the hand guard. A more solid front sight base that screws on with an easier sight adjustment which will be the biggest benefit over the older model. I've upgraded mine with an aluminum trigger, bolt tube cover, Tandemkross aluminum fiber optic front sight blade and charging handle cover which will still be wanted on the new version. I've read that the bolt tube is now the "firearm" according to KT. |
