I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you are trying to get across.  I'm not going to lie to get out of duty or to get on a jury.  Not the way I was raised.

Viewing a first degree murder trial as an exciting adventure is pretty shallow.

Yes.  An Arrest warrant is issued and you'll eventually go to jail.  You then go to court and have to fill out paperwork about availability, etc.  This means you are most likely spending the night in jail.  If arrested on Friday you won't be seen until Monday.  Hopefully it's not a holiday weekend.

It may be tough to seat a jury with the 250 selected when people aren't willing to consider the facts and instead rely on the feelings

Potential jurors in the Karmelo Anthony trial said they couldn’t imagine giving him life in prison or “putting a brother in jail” — despite the heinous murder he is charged with.

Prosecutors in Collin County, Texas, grilled candidates Monday on whether they would use Anthony’s age, race, or likeness to their own children when deciding whether he killed fellow teen Austin Metcalf in cold blood.

Attorneys for the 18-year-old defendant will try to convince the jury he feared for his life when he pulled a knife and stabbed Metcalf in the heart at a track meet in April 2025.

Prospective jurors at Karmelo Anthony’s murder trial said they wouldn’t want him to get a harsh penalty, with one potential panelist saying he looked like a child.

“He looks like a child,” several said in questioning relayed by WFAA, when asked if they could consider a life sentence for the teen, who has been charged with first-degree murder.

“I don’t think I can make a decision about somebody so young. One mistake, one argument, one conflict, you can’t say he’s a bad person,” one potential juror told Assistant District Attorney Dewey Mitchell.

Karmelo Anthony still raking in donations even as Texas murder trial gets underway — and his $690K in fundraising could help him win

Why the jury might not buy Karmelo Anthony’s self-defense claim in fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf
Dewey had to remind panelists that nobody would get “in trouble” for revealing their feelings about the hot-button case, which the Anthony family, who are black, claimed is a product of “white supremacy.

I got a summons for jury duty back in the early 2000s it had a place to mark if you were a necessity to the community (fire, EMS, ect) I marked it and have never gotten another summons not even federal duty.

When I was working we were supposed to called for civil cases only but they still kept sending me notices to appear at criminal court. After sitting there all day the first time just to be told "You're not supposed to be here" I started ignoring them.

I've seen several outraged posts across social media this morning because his jury is apparently all white.

I once got called to jury duty in an area that was roughly equal black/white population.  The black jurors managed to get themselves dismissed from duty at an astonishing rate.  The literal majority of them told the judge that they either never trusted anything a police officer said or that their religion prevented them from sitting in judgement of anyone.  I've always remembered that when I see the outrage like this.

Riots? In Collin County? There are so many people so hard right now just fantasizing about that... Frisco is not Austin. They would get shut down the second anyone stepped out of line and the opposition would be massive.

The prosecution had to dismiss some potential jurors in the murder trial of Karmelo Anthony after they expressed trepidation toward giving him life in prison due to his young age.

The dismissals came after prosecutors questioned potential jurors on if they would use Karmelo Anthony’s age, race, or even likeness to their own children as justification for acquittal.

Several jurors reported said that Anthony “looks like a child” when asked if they would consider giving him a life sentence for the alleged murder of Austin Metcalf.

“I don’t think I can make a decision about somebody so young. One mistake, one argument, one conflict, you can’t say he’s a bad person,” one potential juror told Assistant District Attorney Dewey Mitchell after he reportedly reminded potential jurors that nobody would be “in trouble” for being honest about their feelings. Mitchell also asked the potential jurors in another statement how they feel about “finding an African American male guilty of murder.”

“I don’t know if I feel right putting a brother in jail,” one candidate stated.

Lawyers will likely have a final jury selection on Wednesday night out of a pool of 250 candidates.

Karmelo Anthony will be standing trail for the alleged murder of Austin Metcalf during a track meet in Frisco, Texas; the teen maintains that he stabbed Metcalf in self-defense following an altercation over a seating dispute. Per Fox News:

An arrest report obtained by Fox News sheds new light on the pre-stabbing clash after Metcalf reportedly told Anthony that he needed to move out of the Memorial team’s tent, a witness told Frisco police. The report noted that Anthony “grabbed his bag, opened it and reached inside it” and said, “Touch me and see what happens.”

“Austin stood up and pushed the male to get him out of the tent,” the arrest report said.

In the next moment, the witness told police that Anthony “reached into his bag and the male took a knife out of the bag and stabbed Austin.”

Ah, so a larger than normal pool for this one.

I have been called for jury duty twice in Denton County, always on a Monday and was ~600 people both times, shared pool for multiple cases starting that week.  They would need some count for Monday for trials starting that day, and tell everyone else to come back on Tuesday or Wednesday.

How would you rate current administration immigration policies 1-10.  I thought this one was controversial.
How would you feel if the defendant didn’t testify.
How do you feel about your right to self defense.
Would you have a problem of sending someone to jail for 5 years if it is murder. Or probation for manslaughter. Something like that.

According to the Dallas paper this morning, all of the black juror candidates  and there were only 3 left have been dismissed. The defense said they were excused without cause and the prosecutors said they were dismissed because they were educators, not because of their race. The judge agreed and allowed the dismissal.

I don’t think it’s all white. Just not any black members. The racists were the one ones screaming it was all white.  And the prosecution used his last three strikes on educators. 2 of whom were black and maybe the third.  The defense raised batson objection stating it was race based which was overruled.

To be fair the video is grainy and low resolution which is where the defense claim is. Still I strongly believe they will get a conviction.  There are also plenty of eye witnesses.   Just unfortunate (fortunate?) that there really isn’t a way to watch the trial and the main legacy news providers (daily mail… lol) are not really doing a good job at getting information out.

Not a lawyer.  I know the defense was trying to establish the knife as legal defense  and general fight to self defense while prosecutors pointed out the knife was not legal on school event. Defense was also trying to emphasize the weight class difference.  Other point of contention was prosecutor alleging the defendant encouraged the contact.

I was one of 700 people summoned for duty this past Monday.  The pool looked to fairly representative of the ethnic makeup of Collin County, TX.

I got there early to make sure I got a good parking spot.  There was a gathering of wack-jobs waving signs and flags, and "legitimate" media.  I didn't have to walk past them.

I was directed to the jury selection room that could likely seat 800 or more.  The Judge, John Roach, is a highly respected jurist.  He has been on the bench for at least a decade.  He has not lost in any reelections.  He said he had told both teams that this case would be prosecuted in a timely many, and that his goal was to wrap it up 6/12 which was only 11 days in the future.  He did not know if the jury would be sequestered.

Judge Roach spent nearly two hours going over the nature and responsibility of jury duty.  He has a great sense of humor so the time spent in the conference room didn't drag by too slowly.  Of the 700 summoned, about 60 were dismissed because they were either prohibited from serving (i.e. felon) or excused (mother on minor child).

We were then directed to leave the room and wait outside in the hallway.  After an hour, we were told to come back in and to present identification.  Numbers were handed out.  Every chair had a number.  I sat in mine.

This as followed by more lecturing and then it was opened to questions.  The same purple-haired chick kept asking questions.  I'm praying that God does not put me on a jury with her or anyone like her.

At this point, the judge got deathly serious about the consequences of disobeying his instructions, and that he would send constables out to arrest and haul in anyone for not reporting if they made the second cut but didn't show up.  The judge said that the case would be based on evidence and not on some sort of political or cultural ax to grind.  The only thing allowed in the jury room would be the evidence of the charge.  He was very clear about that.

The prosecuting team was introduced.  The defense team was then introduced along with the defendant.  We were then handed out a three page questionnaire that asked about ethnicity, etc, and sources of news that we watch.  I named the local Fox affiliate, FoxNews.com, and AR15.com.  I had decided to answer all questions truthfully and to let the cards fall as they made.

We were then dismissed with instructions to not discuss the case with anyone and to not watch any news sources.  We were told to wait for an email/text Tuesday evening informing us as to whether we had much the cut down to 250 from which the jury would be chosen.  If not chosen we were no longer prohibited from discussing the case with anyone.

I received both a text and an email informing me that I was not one of the 250 and that my service was appreciated by the court.  There was a certain sense of relief.

I left impressed with the nature of at least the front end of the process.

Yes. Based on their opening statement it looks like Anthony's defense team is going to argue that he was facing multiple attackers, both significantly larger and heavier than him. In theory that disparity of force could create a situation where he reasonably feared death or serious injury and could legally defend himself with deadly force. I think that's a pretty steep hurdle to overcome in this case though.
