Lovecraft was a big fan of Poe, some of his early works and poetry are almost like 'poe fan fic'. So that's why some of his style is more 19th century. Also, he does the more classic horror thing of not 'showing the monster' and just leaving that up to the reader's imagination. And you'll get used to the 'non-ending'. the Dream Cycle stories are heavy in that style. But yes. Lovecraft and Poe are my favorite 'classic' authors. I was introduced to them both in High School by a slightly Odd AP English teacher. |

Frazetta and Vallejo cemented the fact that I really liked women at the same time. Of all the early scifi/fantasy authors, Howard is the GOAT. The fact that he lived most of his life in a town that today is considered BFE, let alone 100 years ago, makes his accomplishments more impressive. He was mostly self taught, through books he requested and received BY MAIL from major libraries. He had an excellent grasp of early European history, considering it was all by memory, with little reference materials. His crusader stories are bad ass. Check out The Road to Azrael, for a good collection of them. |

Then it jumped the shark and Stross went super woke and non ironically embraced the kinds of bureaucracy Bob hated in the first books. A Colder War is very good though. |
