There is nothing more invigorating than getting in a foot pursuit at night through a wooded area with a suspect and running smack dab into one of the big orb weaver webs, the big spiders that look like crabs. You have all your gear on, ballistic vest, gun belt and weapons, Your sidearm with weapon light on and you have trespassed into said web. Mind you, as you are brushing the web from your face and body a thought occurs to you, where is the owner of said web property I have destroyed with my face? As that thought is racing through your mind, your sidearm with light on is dancing all around in attempt to locate the now pissed off web owner. It looked like the most high energy star wars light saber fight in history and filled with my profanity. Note also, the subject I am chasing did not crash through Mr. orb weaver's home, that was my good fortune to earn. By the time the end of the light saber duel of a lifetime has concluded, I see an object that is resting on my badge and staring at me. One good strong swipe removed this gentleman along with more profanity. I returned to my patrol vehicle. 10-8. That was not the only occasion of my orb weaver meetings up close and personal.

You guys might be able to help me. This guy needs a cool name. He's pretty chill and about an inch long. I was thinking maybe Harold.

He's been on or around my desk for a couple of days.

Meh. No fiddle on back and no red hourglass on belly? Let it be. It's spooky looking but harmless to you and it's beneficial. Also killing spiders brings bad luck. My grandmother used to say that so you know it's true.

Funny, I heard the superstition had originated in the Russian criminal circles.

I had one living on my porch last year, and it made an egg sack on the railing. It took a while, but eventually they hatched out. There were baby spiders all over out there, just that one day.

I had one on the porch at my old place too, and took a pic, but I didn't hurt or move it.

Fuck that.  Good or not, spiders and I have a understanding.  Don't let me see you, i wont point you out to a cat.  Spiders who violate this get played with until they die.

I have a similar code. If it's small ish or doing its own thing away from me I'm okay with it. But if it's big and too close it gets the smash

WhenI was a kid in central TX, we called them banana spiders. They were often as large as a hand span

More than once, when hunting, I walked between a couple of cedar bushes and face first into a web.

The spider would cover my face like the baby alien in the movie Alien.

holy shit. I’d rather deal with -30wind chills in January deer hunting up here rather than that nightmare you just described.

Leave it alone, or relocate it if you must.  Those are good spiders.  The Jaro looks slightly similar.  It should be killed on sight.

These spiders are awesome.

I'm from south Louisiana and these are everywhere.  Most people call them Banana spiders but I don't know what their actual name is.

Spiders are awesome.

Don't kill them or hurt them.  If you find one in your home, just help the fellow out and put him outside.

They eat tons of insects such as mosquitoes and flies that would get out of control if the spiders are gone.

This spiders don’t bother me but I have come to hate the invasive joro spiders. They make their web with 8 pound test monofilament it seems. One took my hat right off my head while mowing.
