I seriously had no idea this was so common. I thought it was just something my crazy Uncle taught me. Honestly, before this thread, I had no idea anybody but me (and my Uncle Dennis) did this.

Grounding is important where it is needed. Unneeded grounding can make things worse. In the video, the speaker mention grounding CNC machines, and other things with semiconductors. If you do ground things, you only use one ground. You should never individually ground them. That causes all sorts of issues with ground loops. You can’t get a good reference for 0 volts, because every grounding rod has a slightly different potential, they constantly change in relation to each other and influence each other. It is a goddamn nightmare.

This is separate from the safety issue. Remember 0v is off 5v is on. It doesnt take much to make things all squirrelly.

As for bonding.... it can be a source of issues as well. Especially if the bonding wire is routed next to a transformer, to antenna, or electric motor.
