Quoted: Great i own a discontinued bolt gun and fns9 from them If a guy collected discontinued FN products just from the last 20 years, he'd have a pile of guns. Their handgun line is constantly changing so fast it's hard to keep up with what's even current production. I've had FNX, FNS, FN Forty-Nine- all decent handguns, none which stand out among their competitors. I've had a couple different FN bolt guns, and an SLP. With FN it's always a gamble on how long before they discontinue any given product. |

I bought my SPR but the pistols were won in promotions. I loved them other than they were both 45's which I had no use for. When the FN reps would ask why dealers were hesitant to pick up their pistol lines we'd tell them that updating a line and changing mags is death because nobody wants to get stuck with discontinued product. I stuck with Sig because even though they did a million different variants of the 22X series guns most of the parts including the mags stayed the same. |

Saw this in reddit yesterday. If true, then it's not just the old RCH models that are getting discontinued as I've seen people in this thread suggest, but all SCARs. Attached File |

The support part is crazy. FNH just put out a video advertising the scar, too. They’re probably only taking orders from agencies, dicks that they are, and focusing resourced on the 6.5 LICC rifle. That, or they’re working on SCAR 2.0, trying to wrest market share away from HK and CZ. |

RCH Models have BEEN discontinued already for like FOUR, PLUS years. This thread is regarding the entire, current NRCH line of SCARs. |

Quoted: It's a good platform. I've personally owned and sold original IMI Galil ARs, ARMs (one of my all time favorites), IWI Galil ACEs and Sig 550/551s. While basic operation is AK, The Sig 55X series is VERY refined-way ahead of it's time actually, extremely well built (much better than IMI/IWI offerings), the diopter sights are phenomenal and they will shoot circles around Galils in the accuraccy department. Quoted: SCAR was developed hoping for a big DOD contract. The big part never happened, and DOD interests have moved on. No surprise that FN is discontinuing it. It's a good platform, but 20 year old tech at this point. Has that much changed on the technology front for these rifles? |

No surprise that FN is discontinuing it. It's a good platform, but 20 year old tech at this point. Certainly was. So Aside for some limited, foreign government sales, they had to recoup some of their R&D/investment losses thru civilian sales. Which are currently in the toilet. But yet, the AR15 platform is 69 years old and is the new "Right Arm of the Free World". Quoted: Has that much changed on the technology front for these rifles? Nothing groundbreaking, really. Asides from DI, everything out there is still pretty much AR18 operating system based. |
|
Quoted: Has that much changed on the technology front for these rifles? Technology hasn’t changed. DoD specifications and requirements, yes. I’m sure before the solicitation requirements are written, they already have a winner on their side. How else would sig have so many contracts? |

Would be odd if the discontinued them. It really is there only rifle that competes with the competition. Unless they have an updated SCAR 2.0 about to come out, I find it hard to see why they would. I know their LMG/GPMGs are still popular. Would be odd if they continued selling the even more niche P90 and PS90, or M249S.

Kinda sad to see them get discontinued. I've had a 16S since 2007, I believe one of the first 500 to be made. It's been a great rifle for me all these years and I still love shooting it. Looks like I need to pick up extra spare parts for it to future proof myself. |

Quoted: Interesting the reddit dude because I emailed FN and they told me quite simply "the SCAR rifles have not been discontinued". I'd post screen shots but still haven't been able to figure out the image hosting account site stuff. They've probably gotten 1000 emails asking already |

But the prices have been jumping up and up. $20 for tiny little screws is getting obscene. Luckily I bought a few demil parts kits that should last me forever. |

https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/fn-to-discontinue-all-scar-models-44823361 The Firearm Blog confirmed that it's all models being discontinued. Considering FN keeps referring to both the RCH and NRCH as 'legacy,' I would bet good money they're going to release a SCAR 2.0 or something. |

Considering FN keeps referring to both the RCH and NRCH as 'legacy,' I would bet good money they're going to release a SCAR 2.0 or something. They have a "next gen" rifle they are presenting to DoD to compete with Sig. It's not scar in any way. This is extremely disappointing news. I've been a huge fan of the scar. I'm not sure why any civilian would buy FN after this. They have discontinued almost everything they offered less than 10 years ago, with no indication of changing that course. |

Quoted: A platform that eats optics like candy and has its warranty voided with suppressor use is being discontinued? Crazy man I'd say the only real issue with the SCAR is that they want $3200 for it. I can't imagine thats what it costs FN to make. $1999 or less and it would have had a bigger following and aftermarket. |
|
I was about two seconds from buying a SCAR 16S and then when I found out they break if you suppress them and FN won't warranty it I bought two Hellions instead for the same amount of money Like everything else FN makes, it could have been great had it not been completely half assed and 2x the price it should be. |
| I like FN, but never really latched on to the SCAR as much of a fan. At the time it was released it seemed amazing. HK416's were brand new and unavailable to the civilian market. The ACR was vaporware. Things like the Bren, APC556, and MCX weren't conceived yet. It wasn't long before everyone extended the handguards on their AR's though and started going with low profile slim M-lok handguards, tight mounted weaponlights, and affordable LPVO's and red dots. The SCAR had trouble keeping up with this. Furthermore, it has its flaws. I've seen a SCAR stock crack when dropped from shoulder height onto a carpeted floor. The handguard profile is a little chunky compared to modern AR ones, and the design doesn't really allow for much improvement in this. In 2025, if you spend $3000+ on a SCAR, replace the stock, add a handguard extension, and then buy the expensive high-end optic you're forced to buy due to the harsh recoil impulse of the platform, it can become a very usable. It can become a much bulkier $4-5k rifle that does essentially what a Geissele Super Duty can do for nearly half the price. Ultimately, the SCAR was a major stepping stone in rifle development. It was an evolution on concepts the G36 started to introduce (free float barrel, folding stock, short stroke piston in common use, etc..) in the 1990's, and were further refined in newer platforms like the MCX. I hope FN learned from the SCAR's issues and releases a variant of the new LICC-IWS in 5.56 to the civilian market at SHOT next year. |

Them saying "legacy" series in this release has me thinking they are coming out with a new version or SCAR 2.0 or something at SHOT 2026 Attached File |
