Anyways, not being an IT guy I might be talking out of turn, But having the ability to wipe your entire infrastructure by clicking a couple buttons does not sound like a smart setup to me. One would think there would be layers upon layers of fail-Safes and authentication. Secondly, would not an off-site backup be able to take care of this? |

@aeroe I understand your point about the X posts. They appear in English because they are automatically translated. Sometimes they appear in Spanish or just a bunch of ??? if the language is middle eastern for example. It’s not my job to translate it for you. I’m not spamming anyone. I’m posting things related to the overall topic. As for your guidance to check the bottom of the page before posting, I did read the entire thing and used the Grok feature. It was okay when I added the link here. The community post was added afterwards but before you saw it. There’s a lot of great information here, but some garbage is bound to get through, given the fast paced subject matter and the fact that it brings out intentional bad actors. Trying to figure out what happened to Stryker is difficult. Once a rumor is planted, it is repeated. Initially it was reported as a data theft. Then as a remote wipe. But there are other reports that the wipe did not happen. Stryker website articles I found did not mention the wipe. Only really interested because a family member worked for Stryker. Depending on their data retainment policy - he is worried his data was compromised. So they may have his name, address (both prior and forwarding), social security number, etc... Potentially even one of his credit cards data (as it was used for business travel, with expenses being reimbursed). He traveled a LOT for Stryker (daily, weekly at least that required hotel stays), and was still enjoying his travel points off that credit card. I don't think he has personally paid for a hotel in the last 5 years due to loyalty points. |

I believed it, because of stories I have heard from my older sister, who got started programming around the end of the punch card era and is now a retired systems analyst. Several of her stories followed the theme of upper management destroying/bypassing security measures in the company computer systems, simply because they came across something that looked like it would make things more convenient for them. Best one involved a factory in the US, which was only one of the US factories owned by an international corporation, and one of the upper level managers at that factory figured out a neat little trick to make things more convenient for him, then started telling other upper level managers about it, resulting in most of the upper management using that little trick to bypass all of the system security measures that were in place to make certain that an order/approval from them actually did come from them. All because those security measures, that they couldn't understand why they were needed, were inconvenient for them. |
