. . They have zero R&D and missed the polymer market completely. The one thing they do decently, 1911's, they still manage to screw up with spotty quality control and dozens of variants nobody asked for. . . And of course their 1911-based Double Eagle pistol DA/SA failed. Just during my own life time, Colt declared bankruptcy like 3 times, not a model of efficiency. The first bankruptcy they blamed the UAW, and now the UAW is gone... btw a few years ago, Colt also sold off the duplicate copy of their "rampant pony" that grace their dome building in Hartford. Colt has always been in a financial pinch even when it was run by Sam Colt himelf. |

Colt Canada makes far more innovative products and is securing export sales with some regularity. They don't do much in the way of civilian sales so the boom bust of the US gun market isn't a thing for them except in that they make some parts for export. Diemaco has never allowed civilian sales so fuck them! |

Weren't they on the brink of bringing back some of their DA revolvers? Does this mean the revolvers are not coming? here's an article from GunsAmerica New Colt Python didn't Colt eliminate the revolver line because their manufacturing process was too expensive? they should have raised their prices to reflect their quality. but it seems Colt's management was mostly interested in the big .gov contracts not civilian sales and if they do survive, get them the fuck out of CT |

Didn't colt walk away from consumer sales of pistols for a period of time , like 20 years or so ago? Bowing to pressure from anti gun forces? COLT has just about always been dildos in the Executive Office, since the days Samuel Colt first started making handguns. They have been in and out of Bankruptcy Court more than anyone I can think of. It also seems like when Colt is doing well, someone in their Executive office decides to go full retard. As for Colt history. back in the 1990s a guy named Zikla (spelling don't care) bought it and decided to run a PC gun company. Being a banker from a family of bankers he wanted to make his mark in the gun industry. You can see how that would end and how it did. Company limped along, from Colt Smart guns to other BS. Then Zikla hire some former Marine General to work the procurement magic and got some contracts. 9/11 hit and company did well from.Mil contracts. Zikla took on some partners at some point and according to whom you believe they screwed him out controlling stock. GWOT wound down under Barry Zero and sweet sweet .mil contracts started drying up. Suddenly during a boom in civilian sales Colt had not marketing or sales program for civilians as they put all their eggs in .mil contracts....then .mil contracts started drying up. Colt should have seen this coming as it was the same story that Colt has been through before and after every war. Now company is hampered by debt (current management fault) no .mil contracts worth talking about and civilian sales that were all but abandoned for several decades. Basic story for the last 25 years....more or less accurate. |

I'm amazed at the number of people here applauding the demise of an American icon and a firearms manufacturer. On a firearms website no less. ![]() Colt, Remington and Mossberg all need to fail. Interfering with natural capitalism is what's un-American. So why not advocate them being bought out and made great again with capitalism instead of wanting them dead and buried ? |

Maybe KAC will buy them out So... Everything would stay the same, except they'd add $500 to the MSRP of every gun they sell?
If Colt went tits-up and GD had a group buy, we schmucks could turn it into the most successful rifle manufacturer in the country in under 6 months. I mean, there'd be sharpie dicks all over every gun we sold and every serial number would start with 87, but still. |

Colt is the only firearms company that's worse than H&K when it comes to reading and reacting to market forces. At least H&K has the excuse that they are hampered by German arms laws. Colt could have established themselves as the dominant player in the AR market 25 years ago... but they let that ship sail. They have zero R&D and missed the polymer market completely. The one thing they do decently, 1911's, they still manage to screw up with spotty quality control and dozens of variants nobody asked for. Colt's been dead for 20 years, just nobody had the heart to tell them. ![]() Don't forget this horrible abortion Attached File |

Any gun manufacturer that hasnt been able to make gobs of money in the last decade deserves to die, unfortunately Colt's business model was not modeled on the civilian gun owner so they lost out.
ZFG The sad part is that they are an American icon, like Coke-Cola, Ford, or Boeing... |

I had a problem, Colt...could not care less, unless it was to make more money off me fixing a gun they did not make right in the first place. |

This is Colt going from Government Contracts being their life blood, to just being an I.V. drip. Colt will come up with innovative designs to compete with more than just the AR15 market, And flourish. Or down size to fit the Government contracts they have with the commercial market they have.
I think Colt will go through some big changes and be a better company for it. But that's just my pear rolling around in a bag on the matter. |

Colt customer service pissed me off about 2010 - I resolved to never buy Colt again. Must not be just me. They did it to me too. I resolved the same thing. At the time I had 4 Colts. I went into a LGS, a friend of mine owns it. He was not there, but the gunsmith was and told me that they sold some Colts recently that had issues and Colt could not have cared less. When they would send the guns in, they would be there forever and sometimes come back with the same issue. He said the customers were not only angry with Colt, but with the gun store. I said well, maybe you should have steered them toward a different brand. He said we always try to sell them anything but Colt, but you have people who think they are the Holy Grail of Guns. |

Self-inflicted or not, it's a shame to see an iconic American gunmaker having these troubles. That being said Colt seems to be a phoenix - it will once again rise from the ashes most likely.
I've had a few over the years, but I'm down to one Colt 1911 currently. I like it a lot and have spent a few bucks on upgrades. It's one of my favorite handguns. Attached File |

LOL another GD hates Colt thread....thats cool. More for me. Is this not what gun forums are all about??? Talking about your good and bad experiences with your guns? Or maybe we should have more ARFCOM GD Curse threads?? Or should we all ignore the problems we have seen with them and just bow down to the Almighty Colt Name? I used to, but not anymore. I have found some REAL gun manufacturers that deliver what they promise or they fix it right. |

How Colt can Win Again
Come out with Polymer striker fired pistols series (Competition model, Full size, compact, subcompact) Come out with a metal frame pistol that is basically a modern rendition of a 1911, re stylized, (Full-size and Compact) Take the best features of a Beretta 92, 1911, and CZ and mash them all together. Python More new revolvers, more carry revolvers, lightweight carry revolvers Budget to mid range bolt action hunting rifles Replicas of old AR Pattern Rifles Derringer series Not everyone can afford to buy a colt Handgun new. Colt has a very slim demographic when selling new handguns. They do not have to cut corners to make a good gun ~500 bucks. |
