Yesterday I read the bigfoot thread from 2006-07. A lot of the guys there were getting all gung ho about a bigfoot hunt. Did it ever happen? If so where is the AAR?
Who wants to go bigfoot hunting?
PS. No I don't believe in the existence of bigfoot. No need to post stupid hurr durr shit with this dumb goddamn face after every sentence in your reply.
UPDATE: Molar and I are going to do a bigfoot hunt/expedition this fall. Shooting for sometime in late September. Will be doing this in N GA, proximal to Fannin County. Anyone is welcome to join us. If you have gear such as flir, awesome, bring it. If you aren't in awesome mountaineering shape, fuck it, don't worry. This will be fun. I will be carrying a 5.56 AR at most, so if we see bigfoot, you will probably die. I'll post more details as they become available. PS. Appalachias aren't the joke most people think. Even in September it can get very cold at night. If anyone is inexperienced in the outdoors in Appalachia, ask any question you have and I'll do my best to answer. |

Are you talking about when Cypher made a trip down to the middle of nowhere AL?
If I recall correctly he stayed in a mod's backyard waiting for the bigfoot. It rained all night. Right about 3AM he packed his stuff and went back home. No bigfoots found. In the end it was a bit of a disappointing story. |

Won't be any city idiots here thinking they own the place after fall isn't so pretty anymore. I assume PCT is a trail. I'd stay off trails like I always do anyway. Here where I live you can go to the forest and easily not see anyone. PS. For the city guys, don't take offense. When I say city idiots I'm referring to the assholes that trash up the place and walk around insulting all us dumb country hicks. Regular city folks that like guns, shooting shit and can manage to drive properly on forest access roads are very welcome. |

Well, OK, if you insist. So, My buddy and I were hunting during the high buck season a few years ago. This is an early season restricted to WA wilderness areas, we like it since it forces hunters to hike a ways and thus reduces crowd. It's also a lot of fun, we hike in and set a base camp then do day hunts from there. This particular year we hiked in about 3 - 4 miles up the (then) Pacific Crest Trail. The trail has since been re routed due to floods, which is not really salient to the story but there it is anyway. It rained during the entire hike in, and rained off and on for the rest of the trip, and was foggy and cloudy. This area sits at the north end of a deep canyon with steep walls enclosing a roughly triangular shape area. The forest is deep and thick, nearly triple canopy, and the canyon walls keep the place in shade most of the time. It's damp, with pockets of heavy undergrowth and alder thickets. Moss covers anything that doesn't move, and it can take on a spooky air since it's always dark and quiet. One night in our trip we decided to boogie up the trail to the far north end of the canyon, then go west off the trail to the creek, and set up independent ambushes to wait for deer migrating down out of the high country. We would sit until the end of shooting hours and then regroup on the trail to hike back to camp for dinner. Now, my buddy is from Kentucky and we both grew up watching Daniel Boone, so we typically communicated much like Fess Parker with a series of "whip-or-will" whistles to gain each other's attention. Between the two of us we've spent years in the woods, and hunting together is very natural. Anyway, legal shooting hours finally ended, 30 min past sunset, which makes the canyon very dark due to the high walls. But there was just enough light for me to pick my way back to the trail without my headlamp. I wanted to preserve my dark-adapted vision as long as possible, so I went the 150 yards in the dark. Finally I got to the trail but I wasn't sure how much I'd traveled along it, so I was trying to figure out where my buddy was. I'd been there no more than 30 seconds when I heard my buddy give his little whistle to the south. I answered "who-who", and he whistled again. Which was a little annoying, and out of character for him. Just as I turned to join him, I saw movement to the north. It was my buddy, coming down the trail, opposite where I thought he was. He walked up and asked what the hell I was doing. I told him about the whistles. Just then, whatever it was let out a shrill screech that went on forever. It wasn't a screech owl, I've heard those before, and I spent some time googling up various animal calls but couldn't find anything. Some might suggest elk, but we saw no sign during the entire hunt. The sound was very much a pure tone, high pitched, with no ragged edge like a screech owl, and it started and ended instantly. We looked at each other and said, what the hell was that? I don't know, let's get the fuck out of here... Which was comical, 2 grown men each armed with a 30-30 or .06 and a 357, and we turned tail and fled back to camp. Anyway, what makes it a great ghost story is the fact it tried to lure me in, then got pissed off when my buddy showed up and spoiled its little ambush. In hindsight I really wish I'd scanned around with my headlamp to find eye reflections, but I gotta admit we were both rattled by the thing. Epilogue: He went back a few weeks later to the same campsite and something came and sniffed around his tent one night. He's pretty sure it was a deer but just lay there with pistol at the ready 'til it wandered off. We've gone back since, and the place didn't seem as spooky. |

Great story Every outdoorsman will eventually hear and see things he cannot explain. It's even worse for us that don't spook very easily and/or exaggerate stories to explain what we see/hear, cause people assume you're just one of those wound tight guys that sees ghosts in every shadow. I can sympathize with the wetness up there. I may live in GA but where I live is a not so large section of Temperate Rain Forest here in the south. ETA: My dad and I were camping and hunting where we thought was deep into the forest a few years ago. We were sharing his huge tent. During the night at about 0300 something walked past our tent with very heavy foot steps. We accidentally trespassed onto private property while hunting the next day. I figured it was someone just fucking with us...but at 0300 is kind of weird. ETA again to be more clear: I reckon we were somewhat deep in the forest. Even when you're near no "real" roads you can come across parcels of private property. |
|
If anyone near north GA wants to go squirrel/deer/whatever hunting give me a holler. Or if you just wanna go shooting, hiking around, bigfoot hunting, etc
I'm in very north GA. About 15 minutes south of TN and NC. ETA: I have also received pictures of what appears to be mountain lion tracks from a very reliable source taken on a WMA very close to where I live. I have made quite a few trips out there in search. The environment looks great to support this kind of animal and I've run across plenty of scat belonging to coyotes and bears so I don't put much stock in the idea that mountain lions would starve here. |

Thanks, That story doesn't even need embellishment. I'm just disappointed that we didn't run down whatever it was, and get its hide. Or at least photos.
Anyway, it might make a good HTF trip come the Fall. I told the story to some friends and one of them immediately said, That sounds just like a Sasquatch! Did you hear any tree knocking up there? |

If I could make it to Washington I would definetly go with you. Unfortunately that just isn't possible. ETA: Like I said before I don't really believe in any of these cryptids but I still find them fascinating. I'm all for going and doing my best to find them. ETA Yet Again: Here's one of my stories. Derailing the shit out of my own thread but who cares? Creepy stories are fun. I'm copying this from the creepy thread. I was 14 years old living on a farm. Smaller farm, about 26 acres including wooded area. Beside our farm was a pine tree farm(at least I think it was, they were never harvested as far as I know). We had a 1/3rd mile driveway that ran adjacent to the pine trees. My brother and I ran the driveway several times every night. On my first lap up(about 1/2 way) I kinda twisted my ankle and stopped. I looked to my left into the pine trees and saw something that looked like a man dog. It was standing on its back legs like a human, holding it's hands/paws in front of its face staring as if it didn't know what was happening to it. It scared the absolute shit out of me. Thank God it didn't see me. After a while of thinking about it I actually started feeling bad for this thing. It looked as if it were more scared of what was happening to it than I was. I never figured out what the hell it was. This wasn't the first or last time seeing really strange shit and I damn sure wasn't the only one that saw these things. Now keep in mind I was only 14. I had never used any drugs or drank alcohol. I have a few more good stories and Ill type them out better than I just did with this one. ETA: I saw some doppleganger stories and they are real neat. I have my own similar experiences but they are not creepy at all, just kinda funny. Everyone in the town next to mine thought I was the highschool star quarterback. Even the dudes teammates would approach me and start shooting the shit. I had several guys think I was messing with them when I told them I wasn't that guy. ETA fo dat infoz: Often times here in Appalachia and other more 'tight knit' wilderness areas you will run across odd shit. Animal skulls tied to trees, weird carvings, etc. Don't fret, most of this is simply outdoorsy guys fucking with city dwellers that come around in the spring/summer and act like they own the goddamn place. |

Not surprisingly, it's illegal in NY. “the DEC does not recognize the occurrence of Big Foot in the state, therefore it is not addressed directly in our hunting regulations. Because it is not addressed there is no open season on Big Foot and they may not be taken.” |
