Quoted: Sorry---but you went waaaay to far in accommodating his foolishness. He wanting to play by those rules (and force you to play by them) is pure theater, politics, and childishness (play my way or I'm taking my ball and going home). He is willing to sacrifice the family relationship to accommodate his stupid politics---SO MAKE HIM PLAY BY HIS OWN RULES. This is a perfect metaphor for Republican vs Democrat politics today. They make stupid rules/laws/guidelines with no aforethought to unintended consequences. We play by their stupid rules...but when the situation is reversed, WE ALMOST NEVER MAKE THEM PLAY BY THEIR OWN RULES. Fuck that. Make him play by his own rules and standards. His choice. You didn't choose this...HE DID. Make him play by his own stupid fucking rules. I didn't accommodate them whatsoever, I changed my behavior absolutely zero. I just didn't rob my child of her relationship with her Grandparents because of a dispute between them and myself. As long as they don't cause her any harm or talk shit about me or her mother, they'll have a place in her life. Adult disputes will stay between the adults, where they belong. |
| Turn around is fair play. Let him know he isn’t allowed in your home until he provides proof of a firearm and a training course, as you require proof of such for him to enter. When he tells you that’s ridiculous let him know that’s exactly your point for the rule at his home. Perhaps then you can work through the issue of respect that is behind the curtain. |

Sigh... How strong of a bond does your GF and her dad share? If she speaks fondly of her Dad, he raised her well, she will side with him when she is sick of your shit. During stressful times, we congregate to those who make us more comfortable. You have a couple choices: 1. How Important is your CCW to you? 2. How important is your in laws and their grandkids to them? Be a man. Tell him your standards and he will tell you his. Compromise? Great. If not, he still will respect you more for telling him where you stand. Be the better person. If it bothers you that much, limit the time you and your kids see him. Or simply leave the gun in the car. Next time, at his house, carry a large Bowie knife. ![]() This isn’t a pissing match. Live your life and raise you kids as best as you can. But be careful with the GF. She will respect you more if you stand by your beliefs even if she gives you hell for it. |

Quoted: Apparently op sucks at CCWing. ![]() Your desert eagle in uncle mikes holster not hide well op ? OP does not suck at CCWing. But OP doesn’t really care if my shirt lifted a little higher for a few moments. It is what it is. I was sitting on the couch and had leaned over a few times. Shit happens. |

Quoted: Never go back to his house. Ever. He asserted dominance tonight, you were in his house and you were a decent person the way you handled it. Next time it comes up you get to assert dominance, I PICK MY GUN OVER YOUR HOUSE, PISS OFF OLD MAN. That'd be my response. If you go all emotional and hysterical over something like that, you're pretty much out of my life. Want back in? Stop being a cunt. |

Quoted: Girlfriend doesn't care that I carry. Actually likes it. Kind of hard to eject when we have a two year old. Now, go around him or to their house? yeah, fuck all that. I think I'm done with that for awhile. Quoted: Quoted: His house his rules. Good on you for respecting his (retarded) views going forward. And by that I mean keep carrying where you damn well will and if he asks again just lie or tell him to fuck off. Probable better to just eject actually. Sorry. Girlfriend doesn't care that I carry. Actually likes it. Kind of hard to eject when we have a two year old. Now, go around him or to their house? yeah, fuck all that. I think I'm done with that for awhile. Is he resentful of you that you and his daughter have produced a child and you haven't married her? |

This. And he also might be weird and moody because of the lockdowns and the fact that his daughter is in surgery. |

If you go all emotional and hysterical over something like that, you're pretty much out of my life. Want back in? Stop being a cunt. Yep. If you’re full bitch, you’re out. My future MIL (then GF mom) saw my truck gun one day and asked me if that was one she could shoot. After a brief conversation, I unloaded it and walked her through the four rules and let her hold it. She got her first pistol and CCW soon after I started taking her shooting. Obviously I married her oldest daughter. Being around non shooters is fine. It’s how they respond to me being a shooter/ carrier will dictate my relationship with them. |

Why people would be embarrassed by something that is perfectly legal is beyond me. The old man just embarrassed himself. At least currently, it is perfectly legal for me to carry a pistol, why should I be embarrassed by that any more than I would be embarrassed by wearing shoes? Responding with embarrassment would make me thing that someone believes what they are doing is wrong. "OH MY GOD, YOU ARE EATING A COOKIE!!" It is kinda like that. |
|
Quoted: Very well could be. My plan is to marry her. I know she wants to get married. before Kindergarten or before High School Graduation? because that's what the Old Man is wondering, cause you are probably 3 years late in his eyes. I bet that's a hard "make up" for him. |

Quoted: The gun itself isn't the violation; it's the lack of respect for someone else's property rights that constitutes the violation. Jeez, we clearly have a number of renters who fail to grasp the rudimentary concept of property rights. Not all renters, just some. Don't get me wrong, even though the father was within his legal rights to establish that rule, legalities aside, it was still a real dick move of him to belittle another grown man like that in front of his family. It would've been better had there been a behind-the-scenes discussion of that - preferably before the gun enters the home, but in this case, after the fact would've sufficed. But why is a gun a violation? What other items do I need to disclose and discuss before entering a home? Knife? Pepper spray? Dick? Keys? Flask of whiskey? I just dont see how a gun has significance. If you are so anti gun put up a fucking sign or tell everyone you invite over your expectations and I just won't go, but it's not incumbent on me to declare my pocket content at every doorway. |

Quoted: Only thing this guy has is maybe some bolt actions and pump shotguns. He was airborne apparently in the late 70's early 80's. Figured he'd be in to firearms. Contrary to popular belief, military service, even in combat arms, does not equate to interest in firearms or approval of private ownership of firearms. |
|
Quoted: Very well could be. My plan is to marry her. I know she wants to get married. Don't marry her and continue to be cordial with her folks. Every time she brings up getting hitched, tell her you wish that you and her family got along better and that you don't think her dad respects you. Either her or her mom will end up nagging her dad until he throws in the towel and tells you that you can carry wherever you want. Or they'll nag him to death, either way you win. |

Honest question, meant to evaluate a thought process rather than start a fight: Why is it that you have a child together, which you acknowledge makes disentangling yourselves problematic if you chose that route, but are still only planning to get married some time in the future? |

Quoted: Honest question, meant to evaluate a thought process rather than start a fight: Why is it that you have a child together, which you acknowledge makes disentangling yourselves problematic if you chose that route, but are still only planning to get married some time in the future? That... I'm an old fashioned guy. My daughter went to Western, and Mrs Laydowns people are from Skagit and Whatcom so I'm quite familiar with the area and the people. Sounds like Dad is in his early 60's like me. This isn't about you carrying at all. It's about you not dumping the kid on them for a week and taking a road trip to Reno and making her a bride |
| I would have said “so it’s only a problem now that you know about it? It wasn’t a problem when you had no idea? Got it, just won’t let you know next time! LoL I’d also throw in “Sorry that you’re upset with the ability to protect your daughter, grandchild and you guys. I guess you don’t care about the safety of your family. Sorry you feel that way! It’s a shame that you would don’t care about the safety of your family! I guess maybe it’s a good thing I care enough about them to want to protect them.” |
|
Quoted: I would have told him that it wouldn't be a problem, that I'd never come to his house again, nor would his grandchild. I would have then gotten my child and left. I certainly wouldn't have left my kid there with him. |

Some of you self-centered fuckers clearly have no manners when entering someone's abode. No matter how I explain it, the basic lesson in civility just won't sink in. Be sure to spray pressurized diarrhea particles all over someone's toilet without flushing while you're at it. |

Im a homeowner and have parties all the time where I assume people are carrying, notice some are and just don't give a shit. Really, what is the issue? Are you afraid of guns? Anti gun? Help me understand your point. Why is a gun in particular something that I have to declare vs all other things? |

Quoted: @rojoko Why dont you just explain yourself bro? Because I've already explained myself several times. And it doesn't register with some. Im a homeowner and have parties all the time where I assume people are carrying, notice some are and just don't give a shit. Really, what is the issue? Aforementioned property rights. Are you afraid of guns? Anti gun? I and my gun collection say "LOL". Help me understand your point. Why is a gun in particular something that I have to declare vs all other things? Because that's the way some people are, that's why. You don't have to like it, you don't have to agree with it, but you do have to abide by it until or if they ever change their mindset. You're also free not to associate with such people. I also let my gun owning friends onto my property. Know why? Because they're true friends. |

If so why if I already know you are pro gun? Just because some people arent why should I assume they aren't? Maybe some people are anti alcohol, should I ask if I carry a flask if it's ok? I'm serious not sure why you wouldnt want to converse. |

Quoted: In my opinion this is the wrong approach. He can brush it off and say in his last sixty years he has never needed a gun to protect his family blah blah blah. As someone else noted make the dad the bad guy. He showed a lack of respect and hospitality and made the OP feel unwelcome. Quoted: Quoted: I would tell them that your kids are no longer allowed to stay in a home where the homeowner is unable to protect his family and my kids against a threat and now days that is a high probability of occurring In my opinion this is the wrong approach. This is only going to get worse and you can't say you or your family will never be a victim |

Quoted: You have a 2yo with his daughter. How have you been in his daughters life that long and not known what kind of man he is? You're in a rough spot, he will definitely not respect you and look for any reason to little you with the daughter and grand kid and would "red flag" you first chance he gets. How have you been with the daughter to the point of making a child, and not be married? |

Quoted: You not visiting is fine but keeping his grandson away is not a good idea. Quoted: Quoted: From the responses I have received here I got some good advice. I don't plan on ejecting. But, I don't plan on going over there anymore and my son will be spending a lot less time with them. Especially him. You not visiting is fine but keeping his grandson away is not a good idea. His son - his rules. |

That close to Seattle & this rude ass pussy motherfucker is shocked and offended that a grown ass man with a family to protect is carrying a concealed weapon? Time to have a very, very sincere heart to heart with your girlfriend (After you help her heal from this current medical issue, obviously.) about how you are going to proceed with regard to visitation, or lack thereof, of both the kids and you, with her father. Good Luck. |
