What's the purpose of the heavy triangle block on the nose? I haven't done a retainer ring yet, so maybe I'm missing something. I was thinking of reducing that block and leaving a tab on the retainer to hook your finger on for removal. Also considering enlarging the string loops. I think I know why I was struggling with jambs the other day. Haven't had a chance to dig into the printer yet, but apparently some shipped out missing a guide piece. The result is a very large throat as I suspected. |
|
I did one in TPU. I think the retainer doesn't need the flex cutouts for the TPU version. I'm using 95 TPU, and I'm a bit concerned about retention. I did add some grip tabs, also, which were helpful. I need to tweak the polycarbonate version. The clips broke when trying to get the retainer off. Apparently, I didn't have great layer adhesion there. |

| Off the cuff, look for anything that might hamper smooth extruder function. Things like a spool that might be wound funny & causing periodic resistance to filament being pulled off, a filament guide that actually catches & restrains filament at times, or general extruder problems like inadequate pressure or a hobb gear being fouled with plastic dust. Also check the usuals like bowden tube movement in the pneumatic fittings. |

Okay files downloaded and TPU ordered and being shipped. And now I discover I don't know nearly as much about air filtration as I thought I did. I think I'm looking for MPR 2200 or above but there are enough different rating systems and they all use the same Search terms so I will admit to a bit of confusion over what is actually a HEPA filter and what is just sort of a HEPA filter. Since there is no direct comparison between furnace filters and masks. I don't suppose anybody would be kind enough to give me a specific link or example of air filtration media that would be suitable for this? This seems to be the highest filtration rating I can find on Amazon, is it sufficient to the task?: |

Does anybody have time to finish the retainer clip for me for the 3M filter version I just posted above? Just got hit with a major work project, and I won't have time to work on it for days. I've uploaded the .f3d and .step to the Prusa page: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/26740-3d-printable-n95surgicalrespirator-mask-substitute They are the 2 "mask3m_filter_version" files on the bottom of the files download list. Appreciate anybody that has time to do this! |

TPU just showed up, PTEG from Wyzworks is delayed for some reason, but I did get the tpu. Scaled down to 98%, 2 perimeter walls, .28 layer height, no infill. 40mm/s print speed. Estimated print time in Cura was around 3 hours 16 minutes. *edit* I'm probably going to add 30% infill to the first section to stiffen it up a bit. *edit 2* I'm loving this TPU, at 235 degrees and a bed temp of 50, it is printing beautifully so far. I just got a roll and have never used it on my Ender3. |

Doesn't have to cover so much area though, can be more like the original retainer rings I designed on the current version mask. The added material honestly only makes printing longer. Its meant to help protect the filter element from mechanical damage from hitting stuff. |

Quoted: The real problem is always going to be the filter media. If we can find a reliable source for filters, it would be a big help to this. |
|
Quoted: The beauty of these designs is they can use whatever field expedient filter material, such as HEPA vacuum bags or air filters. This is certainly true on the make-shift filter media, but if the Honeywell 7506n95 filters or the 3M were available, I think the medical staff would more easily adopt these due to a known filter. For what it's worth, I've been printing the Billings mask non-stop for a few days now out of TPU. After a few failed prints in the nose area which you changed, I managed to tweak the print settings to work well. I've found 100% size fits most men, and 90% fits most women. I'm printing 95TPU at 235C, 2mm retraction, 40mm/s, 25% infill, and 50% fan. Currently I'm using HEPA rated shopvac filters because they're available and HEPA rated. HVAC filters Merv17-20 would be similar but are hard to find. MERV13 (most residential stuff) is really just a dust catcher. |
|
Quoted: On the plus side, this latest version can still be used with HEPA filter material and has a larger surface area (longer time between clogging) than the Billings 1.2 version. |
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAnd my experimental X carriage on my 3D printer no longer has a parts fan that will stay on. Its been broken while I've been working on these prototypes, and I've just been gluing it back on . No longer will simple glue hold it on, its been "repaired" too many times.I may have to print out the Titan extruder mount, and do my bowden conversion, which has a much better fan arrangement. Luckily, I have all necessary parts for that mod. Wish my frigging $450 Prusa Mini was still this side of the pond |

That's bad ass, I am waiting on TPU and PETG for my son's Ender 3 then we are going to give it a go. I'm also scheduled for a webinar with these guys on Thursday...https://www.makermask.com a friend's son is on the development team. Their mask looks really complex though. |

I have updated the OP with a copy/paste of this post, but I believe I have reached the logical conclusion with this design. I would like to thank all those who have assisted with the design, including giving design input. I have read every post in this thread, and while I may not have responded, everything was considered. Updated files, including .f3d source files, are now on the Prusa download page linked to in the OP. I have both versions uploaded. I will get them on Thingiverse shortly, provided Thingiverse wants to pay ball... I don't plan on actively working on the design unless a problem arises, and instead plan on fixing my 3D printer (I think I wore it out with all the revisions this last week ) and working on production for local hospitals/LE who need masks/shields printed.I implore everybody here with a 3D printer to get in touch with a local hospital or first responders or other groups where there is a demand for these 3D printed parts and join in on the production. There are various groups across the country who are looking for these 3D printed parts, try to find one and help out! If you know anybody in LE or working medial, turn their attention to the website https://emergency3d.com/ for more information on these 3D printed parts. While I don't have a ton of info on it yet, I'm hoping to build that info up. Speaking of which, anybody good at building websites that has time to help out? Of course, I'll still be monitoring this thread. Feel free to reply or IM or email me with any more personal/professional questions, especially if you are medical et al and are looking for info. Please remember that these or any mask is NOT going to fully protect you from this virus. You still need full PPE, which at minimum would be eye protection (eyes are a wonderful mucus membrane for nasties to get in through) and proper decon. Please research proper applicable methods. |

Just read an story that an injection molding company has started to produce the MT mask. Also the makers have a new website for the mask. https://www.makethemasks.com/ One of the stl's they have listed is for "mask with flange" I can't check it out now but I assume that is prob your design Rat? |

No, that's the filter holder only. At least that's what I got when I loaded it up. I'm printing in PLA since that's all I've got now. I flipped it over to print flat side down. Took about 4 hours IIRC. Now printing two of the filter flanges. This is about 45 minutes in to printing. One is supposed to be scaled down 5% for Ma Danby. Will be trying a 5% downscale on the mask after this. After painting/sealing, I'd be ok with using these for family for incidental contact. Like drive-throughs etc. Not sure I would inflict my efforts in a clinical situation, unless they were the only thing available. Attached File Attached File |

Printed a couple in Taulman Nylon 230 (since it's all I have currently). It's got quite a bit of flex, which is nice, and it's nowhere near as brittle as PETG or PLA The overhangs were not good, but they are very functional. Just ugly. Attached File Attached File |

Quoted: Yeah, I've seen their design. Probably better, but highly complex. I specifically went for something simple and effective that anybody could print easily. Being 100% 3D printed (less filter of course) was a design requirement. Quoted: Quoted: That's bad ass, I am waiting on TPU and PETG for my son's Ender 3 then we are going to give it a go. Quoted: I watched their webinar and your mask is a much better solution for the current problem. Theirs looks like a typical 3m mask which is cool, but overly complex and not as easily deconned. The webinar should be up on Youtube by now for anyone interested. But I noticed they have .gov $$$$$ backing it, so... |
