To fill this void, the service is offering $8,000 for qualified recruits who can sign and ship off to training for certain careers "within five days or less," the service said in a press release. In total, there are 16 career fields that are offering bonuses for enlistees. Four-year contracts for career fields such as assembling and packaging ammunition, bomber aircraft maintainance and radio transmissions repair have bonuses ranging from $3,000 to nearly $10,000. But most of the hefty bonuses will require a six-year contract and are for jobs with a lot of training or that are some of the most dangerous roles in the Air Force. The $50,000 for the air force is specialists. special warfare operations, and bomb operations. Other than that it's $3-10k. One solution is to rethink what sorts of things we disqualify and separate people for. Obesity is obviously a valid standard, but if someone has a major allergy or a medical condition where they need to take a pill for it, how big of a deal is it to just let them serve and pick up their pills from the base clinic every month? Certain jobs should be more restrictive than others of various types of things, but I really don't think we need to be disqualifying/separating people over prescriptions and surgeries to the extent we do. |

I was owed some favors and get her the duty station she wanted, my reward for getting crapped on for 25 yrs. Starting pay is $1833, as a E4 she gets $2633 plus COLA and BEQ along with her X ray tech husband. Army pays the rent and they get around $6k a month combined at 21 and 23yrs old. They have traveled all over Europe and have had vacations most folks will never have. The Army has not only gave them a kick ass life, it will pay for their medical degrees one day. And no college debt. I loved the Infantry, but she is smarter than I ever was and made better decisions. She has a rough life, petting cows while in Holland was terrible. (She is a animal person). They were at legoland last weekend.  Yea Target sounds like a pretty boring sad life IMO. |

If they want recruits, all they need to do is enforce the ucmj as written, double the pay, and raise the asvab/pt/promotion standards. Trading your health, your back, your knees, and maybe your life is worth more than $10.50/hr. Anyone who can't do that math isn't someone you want or can really trust for anything important. For those who feel the service is worth more than the pay, they'll get weary of seeing the fat fuck ncos and diversity hire officers stomp on every oath and ethos the military purports to espouse out of laziness and incompetence until they say "fuck it" and coast out the rest of their contract. For bonus points, replace all of the death by diversity BS with more time doing MOS specific training. Hell, if you want to try and really improve the force, swap all the diversity BS with professional/personal development courses; do a finance course and show that you know a 25% apr on a sports car is a bad deal and get a few promo points. |

| One of the factors I have not seen mentioned in the thread yet are all of the athletic young men that "had ADD" in high school becuase they acted like teenage boys and were given meds the .mil considers disqualifiers. Lots of parents doctor shopped for ADD and ADHD diagnoses because it got junior extra study time and longer test time. |

In 2007 I passed the time during a 12 hour shift talking to a E-1 private after he pissed hot for cocaine for the 3rd time. In 2012 when someone pissed hot the first time we were getting them 100% out in 2 weeks. Morals are flexible it appears. |
