Wicked good thread bub yessah! I love that area. LOVE IT. Spent 5 years guiding whitewater trips between the Nob & Dead. Hunt up there every November. Hit one of them moose 6 years back going 65mph+ crusing from Jackman to the Forks. I was in Kokadjo this morning for a bachelor party.....few things rival the amazing vistas offered by Maine's landscape. Multiply that by 10 if you include a good sunset! Great pics! Great weekend for a ride too...best weather we've had all year.

Great pics, I grew up in that area. Moxie falls was a frequent Sunday destination for my family. I've been in a few times in the winter on x-country ski's.
I spent more time on the Kennebec then I did in school! 
Next time you go through Jackman get some pics of Moosehead for me. |

Next time you go through Jackman get some pics of Moosehead for me.  Jackman is kind of out of the way for Moosehead, but I have ridden up the West side of Moosehead through Rockwood to Jackman. Usually I go up up to Greenville for Moosehead Lake. A friend of mine has a camp in Shirley, and another in Beaver Cove.
I know some pretty cool places up there, too. Elephant Mountain would be a arfcom favorite. I'll have to head up there sometime soon and take some pics. You never have to twist my arm to get me to go to camp.

My Mother went to school in Jackman when she was a little girl, There used to be a Catholic "convent" just when you come into town on the right!!! My Grandmother sent here there from Brunswick. I have some cousin that lives in Jackman now.....I think she teaches school...havn't seen her in 20 years
I remember going up there to see the convent, and they were still floating logs down the river at that time. Don't forget to visit the Bingham Dam!!!.....................Dam Damns are damning up all the damn rivers!!!!!

I live seconds from that dam, very impressive when they have all the flood gates open. There are some very deep swim holes eroded below the dam in rocks/ledges. Not a bad area to live but my wife and I both drive 20 miles to work everyday. |

Funny, that was one picture I considered taking and didn't. (not the convent, but the Catholic church. The Catholic church in Jackman is gorgeous. St. Anthonys I think? |

I used to fly a Fire Patrol route over that slice of country for the Maine Forest Service, sometimes 3x a day. Rafted the Dead and Kennebec our of The Forks. Just seeing the lay of the land brings back memories, I miss the place every once in a while. You wouldn't have missed Maine this past February! I couldn't shovel my driveway fast enough!
But yeah, I used to guide whitewater trips for 5 years or so, awesome times. I can still draw up the whiff of spruce conifers lining the Kennebec Gorge. Beautiful area. |

IIRC the convent was in back and to the right of the church?............I was about 10 at the time so you looking at about 40 years ago!!! |
