Want to make sure i got this right. Only one hit on the target not in the center is 5 second penalty.  No hits at all is 5 seconds plus  5 seconds ftn?

If they shot at it and missed both shots +5  FTN

If they don't shoot at it  all +5 FTN and +5 FTE ( failure to engage )

And if hit only once?

One hit inside the center 8" circle = no penalty

Two hits anywhere on the target = no penalty

No hits on the target or only one hit only and its outside the 8" circle (i.e. Failure to Neutralize) = 5 second penalty

As long as you attempted to engage the target (fired a shot towards the target with the intent of hitting that target) you will only get the Failure to Neutralize (FTN) penalty of 5 seconds.

If you ran past a target and forgot to shoot at it you add the Failure to Engage (FTE) penalty of an additional 5 second penalty for a total of 10 penalty seconds for that target.

We use IDPA targets around here.

1 hit in the 0 or 1 is good
2 hits anywhere is good
1 hit NOT in the 0 or 1 is a FTN

Was wondering specifically for the 3 gun nation targets. Was a little confused on the scoring but this has helped clear it up until I heard Daniel Horner say he had a 2.5 second penalty on a target in one of the 3 gun nation pro events on tv. There isn't anything in the rules about a 2.5 second penalty.

New rules for club series and regional matches are out and the scoring has changed.

3.3 Penalties will apply as follows:
a. One (1) hit on the target not in the “Center” (8” circle)=2.5 Second Penalty
b. No hits on paper but target was engaged=5 Second Penalty
c. Target (of any sort) was not engaged=5 Second Penalty PLUS THE MISS(ES)
d. Missed steel or clay (static or reactive)=5 Second Penalty
e. Missed steel beyond 40 yards (static or reactive)=10 Second Penalty
f. No Shoot Penalty=5 Second Penalty per hit

Looks more inline with the Pros with the 2.5 and 5 sec.  Also, they upped the penalty on steel beyond 40yds which I like.

So what's the penalty for failing to spin a spinner?  Good hits on both plates but it just don't go over.

At the outlaw matches around here, it is typically a 60 or 90 second penalty.
