As a Personal Defense Weapon for something that could be carried in a bag or backpack, would you choose a 10mm SMG/PCC/SBR or a 300 BlackOut SBR?

There arent a lot of options for a 10mm SMG (Kriss, MP5-10, Stribog).  Of those the Kriss is easily the most available.  The MP5-10 is virtually unobtainium and the Stribog (?).  Theres the AR pattern guns that can be had in 10mm; but once you get into that youve reached the 300 BO size.  A 10mm SBR can be carried in a LapTop bag but a 300 BO will need a Backpack.

300 BO has more range; but how much more.  Adding a suppressor makes it even longer and using a subsonics lessens it power and range.  10mm out of a SMG length barrel will work out to 150+Meters, not (quite) 300BO super range; but close to sub range and with "more" power

What do you choose?

300 blackout definetly gives you more flexibility. You can use it like a pcc with subs, which are comparable to 10mm in terms of energy, or you can load a magazine of supers and get rifle performance. The spitzer bullets in .300 blackout subs also offer advantages over round nose pistol bullets too, even at subsonic velocities.

NO argument from me on any of your points.

My only issue is the 10mm SMG is smaller making "easier" to carry around

Sig Rattler is only about an inch or so longer than the Kriss when folded

300 is more versatile.  I like 10mm though and with the right gun that was smaller/lighter would consider the 10mm.  Don't know of one that exists w/ reliable/affordable mags in a price I want to pay so 300.

The KRISS uses Glock mags and while Im not a fan of Glock mag SMGs, I think the KRISS is an exception.  The Stribog mags are roughly $50 but they only seem to come in 10 and 20 round capacity.  The MP5-10 mags were NEVER cheap.

I like both the 300 and SMGs so this is hard for me.  IF its a choice between 9mm SMGs and 300 Blkout guns the choice might be easier but Id still ask "for what role".  10mm turns a SMG into a "magnum" or "intermediate" class SMG (think 30 Carbine or even possibly 762x25-if there was a modern SMG in that cartridge).

Neither. Anything past handgun distance should be engaged with a rifle probably in .308 or .223 at the very least.  While I am really familiar with the 300 BLK running super sonic from an AR pistol, I find it less practical in that 100 to 200 yd distance than something like an M4 or Sig Cross, both of which can be stored in relatively compact cases like a Savior case and rapidly deployed.

I don’t plan with the mindset that he who shoots the mostest the firstest runs the other guy off. While that has been known to be a long standing strategy, I would much rather use something that hits like a freight train. Let’s look the other direction as an example:  You could cut down a Single shot CVA Scout V2  to a 16 in barrel and easily put it in a backpack. Think 300 gr TSX 45-70.

Where the guns you are pondering really shine is 25 yds to 100 yds but that is 12 ga buckshot distances also and the M4 or AK are world wide the overwhelming choice for killing at those distances. If you exclude AR & AK then something like a S@W M&P Folding Pistol Carbine is the best backpack quick deploy PCC

OK I think we largely agree BUT its also a scenario thing.  I dont see a "special" carry gun for times of higher threat needing to be a long range weapon, nor do I see I single shot or a folding rifle serving my needs (although I will admit trying the concept).

Yes I like shotguns but I dont think 12ga buckshot is a 100 yard option, nor am I thrilled with a 5 or 6 round magazine capacity in "riot", that being said I wouldnt say no if handed one.

I live in the suburbs; but still close enough to worry about "spill out" during the next "wheres my free cheese" dispute. Is it realistic? To that end I would say I saw it happen in Baltimore more than once and you saw it on TV when Reginal Denny got pulled out of his truck in LA.
