Besides the Bill Drill and the El Presidente, which handgun drills
are most helpful for 3 gun? I am slow as molasses in January, and I get more charlies than alphas these days. I am going to practice more but want to make sure my practice sessions are productive and not just noise making sessions. I need some drills that also incorporate some movement. I appreciate your input. |

Well really you could just make up your own drills. Doesn't have to be some one elses or even 'classifiers'. Just has to be repeatable. Start slow and work up to your failure point. If you need to work on moving and shooting at the same time then set up some targets and walk slowly and engage them focusing on your sight picture and it relation to the movement of your body while walking. Speed up as you get better.
All it really comes down to is practice. |

It depends on the match I'm preparing for. If it's a hoser match, I just focus on transitions and calling Alpha/Charlie shots quickly.
If it's an accuracy match, I do steel challenge style drills using sticky notes. (To simulate those 4x4" plates) I'll make that into a video one day. |

Get Dave Re's practice deck. It'll have a ton of drills that'll make you a better pistol shooter => translates to better 3-Gun shooter.
The other big thing is practice loading and unloading your pistol. Lots of unloaded starts and it's good practice in clearing a pistol too. Lastly, work on gun transitions. Go from long gun to pistol and vice versa. Lot of time is lost there because guys don't practice handling more than one gun. Rich |

Thanks alot Rich. That looks like a great tool to use. Dave Re has them for sale here for anyone else that wants a deck: http://drperformanceshooting.com/store?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=17&category_id=6 Originally Posted By uscbigdawg1:

| Try shooting groups. I hate doing this but it forces you to concentrate. If you have the range for it, try some long range pistol shots, start at 30 yards, moving back until about 100 yards. Remember to have fun, end the practice session with a mag dump and see how small of a group you can get. |

Sit at a bench, rest on your elbows, and shoot a couple ten shot groups at the beginning of every practice session. Watch as your sights track and adjust your grip so they track correctly. This drill sets the muscles and brain to what the gun is doing in the hand and how it behaves. Now, when you shoot your drills, you know what the gun is doing and you can rely on it doing what you want it to do. |

If i am not practicnig regularly. The only way to get them back is to shoot groups. |
