I want to mod my Stoeger for light loads. I will try some out first before I do anything else.
All I have done so far is sand (600 grit) the magazine tube, stone the rails on the arm thingy, and stone the friction parts of the bolt as well as top of the hammer. 150 rounds of 3-3/4 dram high brass and a couple boxes of 3 dram. I bought some 2.75 dram to try with a full 12 rounds loaded. That is first. I traded some AR stuff to a smith for some cerakoting and MICROSLICK came up. I left the ridges on the mag tube, but sanding knocked off the high spots and smoothed it up. I am thinking about putting MICROSLICK on the outside of the tube, the arms ring that goes around the tube, recoil spring, bolt, bolt carrier, and the arms the bolt carrier rides on. Inside the receiver looks too hard to spray. Is this even a good idea. Microslick sounds great for a long lasting dry lube, but well lubed steel on steel has a very low coefficient of friction around .10 - .20. Microslick settles in at .417 dry, but they don't publish anything about how slick it is with lubricant. This gun is dual purpose birds and 3 gun. The Microslick would be great for longevity, but if I get to 2.75 dram without it, is there a risk it may slow things donw? |
| It's not gonna matter. If you shoot 10,000 rounds through the gun it's gonna be smooth as a baby's ass. ain't no spray or snake oil gonna ever do that for you. Most guns will run 1145 fps loads out of the box with no break in, polishing or anything. So you might shoot it first before wasting your time in the garage. |

It won't run 100% in any shotgun. I never buy that stuff. Stick to federal bulk pack or Remington's gun club loads for "good" cheap Ammo. The factory Stoeger extractor isn't great either. I swapped all of mine out with Benelli extractors. Actually I paid Mike at Accurate Iron to swap them. I could find a hammer big enough to get the roll pin out. Lots of the cheap ammo wouldn't extract I my guns 100% due to the geometry of the rim they use on the cheap brass/steel. |

Just to close this up, mine ran 2-3/4 dram just fine for 2 boxes. I tried some 2.5 dram mini shells, but they lacked to power to load the next shell ( a regular 2.75" shell ).
I only have about 200 rounds through this gun, but it has been 100% except for the mini shells. |

My pump 870 has shot less than a box of it and failed to eject twice. This matches my families experience with cheap Winchester. |

Ok, on my 8th box of the cheap Winchester, and the STOEGER finally choked on one.
Stoegers are aggravating to clear a malfunction under the clock. empty hull was hung out the side of the gun with a live shell trying to load up under it (classic failure to eject). I racked it and kept going....with an empty chamber cause both empty and loaded were ejected. I will have to train myself to hit that little shell load lever. Two other people there had nothing but negative comments about cheap Winchester target loads. |
