Hi all, I'm stuck with Safariland (and thus QLS) for holsters due to... reasons. I'm looking to get involved in some steel match, maybe some USPSA competition, but I need to update some of my gear. I've long been unhappy with the flex of the Safariland belt hanger, so I'm purchasing a True North hanger to stiffen things up a bit. For the most part, the holsters are still Safariland or use QLS adapters. Here's the rub. I have 2011s. Some STI/Staccato standard styles, and one commander and one open optic style on Cheely frames and grip modules. They all have different holster requirements. Most everything is figured out except how to get an open optic style 2011 holster to work with a Safariland hanger. Think of a 2011 with a frame-mounted optic mount with a Trijicon SRO sized optic (Similar to an Atlas Chaos). Any suggestions from the resident experts? Some adapter to attach something from DAA to a QLS fork? I'm voyaging into unknown territory. Thanks in advance. |

Asked around here, some competition friends, Double Alpha... there's nothing out there. Then let's (hack) science the F out of this. Comparing the holster side of the QLS fork, and the hanger side of the DAA holster, it looks like these can be compatible with a single bar of .250" aluminum, if it's spaced smartly.  Gratuitous use of layout fluid.  Make some holes. Get one slightly off. Make it larger. Remove a little material from the QLS fork to accommodate the cap head screw (so I don't need to go buy another one)  Presto. It's pretty secure feeling, and holds the pistol at about the same height as pistols in the regular Safariland were held. Time for some testing. No idea if the hanger setup will cause class issues for competition, I'm really not even there and haven't looked into it at all. For now, this is for fun gunning and future competition. Maybe. |

At first I was really confused about the “no options” thing and then I see you’re trying to mount an open comp holster. I kept thinking “open top.” That’s a good idea. I have been considering QLS because I have multiple guns and I am tired of swapping holsters and belts and even pouches in some cases… I’m sure there will be no legality issues, but keep in mind the butt of the grip must be above the top of the belt, and the gun cannot be spaced away any farther than the width of an overlay card from the belt. |
